Patients using “racist” or “discriminatory” words or body language could be told to seek non-emergency medical care elsewhere

A public hospital in Massachusetts has issued a warning that patients who violate their new code of conduct by using “racist” or “discriminatory” words or body language could be told to seek non-emergency medical care elsewhere.

In early January, Milford Regional Medical Center (MRMC) implemented a new “patient and visitor code of conduct” which describes a list of ‘microaggressions’ that could serve as grounds for denial of treatment.

A video featuring Chief Medical Officer Peter B. Smulowitz explaining the code and its ramifications was featured in the announcement.

“Words or actions that are disrespectful, racist, discriminatory, hostile or harassing are not welcome and will not be tolerated,” MRMC says.

Examples of violations include, “offensive comments about others’ race, ethnicity, accent, religion, gender, sexual orientation or other personal traits,” along with “refusal to see a clinician or other staff member based on these personal traits.”

“Please recognize that body language and tone of voice are also important parts of communication,” MRMC cautions potential visitors and patients.

MRMC states that a person deemed to have violated any part of the code will be “given the chance to explain your point of view,” which will also come under review “before we make any decisions about future care at Milford Regional.”

“Some violations of this Code may lead to patients being asked to make other plans for their care. For serious or repeated violations, future non emergency care and visitation rights at Milford Regional may require review, though we expect this to be rare,” the hospital warns.

Social media users have expressed shock and outrage at the notion a public hospital could potentially deny treatment on such grounds.

“The doctor better put his tender feelings away and consult with the hospital attorneys, because he works for a public state hospital that accepts state funds that are funneled to the state from federal tax dollars. That means they don’t have the same protections that a private hospital would have regarding services offered or refusal of services. He’s walking a very thin line with his threats,” one user wrote in response to an article published by Fox News.

Comments for MRMC’s video featuring Smulowitz have been turned off on the hospital’s YouTube page and it is currently “unlisted.”

Flight suffered an engine fire over Miami late Thursday.

Footage shared on social media platform X shows what appears to be an Atlas Air Boeing 747-8 with flames shooting out one of its four engines shortly after takeoff. 

An Atlas Air spokesperson confirmed to Reuters that the aircraft had encountered an engine malfunction: 

“The crew followed all standard procedures and safely returned to [Miami International Airport].” 

According to the flight tracking website FlightAware, the Boeing 747-8, powered by four General Electric GEnx engines, took off from MIA on Thursday night, around 2232 ET, and was headed to Puerto Rico when it was diverted.

Boeing has been under intense scrutiny after an incident earlier this month where an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9’s door ripped off during a flight over Portland, Oregon. Then, days ago, a 737 could not fly US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and staffers back from Davos after a mechanical issue was found.

Texas has refused to grant federal agents access to Shelby Park area, setting off a showdown between the state and federal government.

Astonishing footage out of Eagle Pass, Texas, shows members of the Texas Highway Patrol and Texas National Guard arresting and detaining illegal immigrants crossing razor wire barriers into the state.

Video shot Friday at the US-Mexico border shows several migrants in custody as Texas law enforcement agents patrol the area.

The new tough border security measures are part of an executive order enacted last month by Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas), which gives Texas law enforcement agents the authority arrest illegal immigrants.

NewsNation’s Ali Bradley reporting from the area explained Texas troopers have indicated they “are prepared and ready to be arrested if it comes to that.”

The videos come as the Biden administration has sued the state to block the law, and demanded access to the area surrounding Shelby Park where illegals have been entering the US undeterred, encountering Biden Border Patrol agents who catch then release them into the country.

The situation escalated when three migrants were reportedly found dead on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande River. The U.S. Justice Department claimed Texas law enforcement hindered their access to Shelby Park, preventing them from conducting a rescue.

Texas has thus far refused to grant Border Patrol agents access to the area which they commandeered last week, setting off a showdown between the state and federal government.

“Because the facts and law side with Texas, the State will continue utilizing its constitutional authority to defend her territory, and I will continue defending those lawful efforts in court,” stated a letter Wednesday from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office.

“The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) should stop wasting scarce time and resources suing Texas, and start enforcing the immigration laws Congress already has on the books.”
