Peter Schiff: We Are On The Brink of A Catastrophe

admin Feb 11, 2024 4 min read
As we stand at the crossroads of fiscal responsibility and economic fantasy, the choice is clear yet daunting. Ignoring the clarion call for immediate action in favor of complacency and political convenience not only jeopardizes our current economic stability but also mortgages the future of generations yet unborn.

Jerome Powell’s 60 Minutes portrayal of the national debt crisis as a distant concern starkly contrasts with the urgent reality we face.

Peter Schiff doesn’t mince words in his most recent podcast when he highlights the immediate threat:

“It’s not a problem for the future. This is not a long-term problem anymore; this is a short-term problem that could blow up any minute. It’s this generation that’s going to pay the piper, not some future generation. It’s happening right now.”

In his last podcast, Peter pointed out that the US is on the hook for over $1 trillion in debt payments every year.

We are not merely approaching a fiscal danger zone; we have already entered it:

Jerome Powell shouldn’t be worried about it because we’re on an unsustainable path; he should be worried that we’ve already arrived at an unsustainable destination.”

Despite Powell’s soothing assurances, Schiff points out the grim outlook for future generations. The Fed’s monetary policy will also cost your grandkids:

It’s going to be a problem for the future generations. We’re taxing, borrowing from the future generations. It’s unsustainable and it’s going to be a problem in the future…  That’s basically a way of saying it’s not a problem right now, so none of you who are watching 60 Minutes tonight have to worry. It’s your grandkids right that they have to worry. So who cares, right? They’ll figure out.”

Schiff warns that we’re teetering on the edge of a fiscal abyss, challenging the optimistic economic narrative:

We are on the brink of a fiscal catastrophe…Contrary to Powell’s optimistic assessments, I see an economy built on shaky foundations of debt-fueled spending and artificially low interest rates.”

Peter explains that we need immediate, proactive measures, like putting out a wildfire before it spreads:

We can’t wait for the crisis; we have to preempt the crisis. As bad as it’s going to be, waiting for the market to cause it is going to be even worse. We have to bring the crisis about under our own terms, kind of like a controlled burn, to the extent you can even control it, rather than waiting for an uncontrollable wildfire to just develop.”

Schiff accuses Powell of playing politics, particularly in the run-up to an election, painting a rosy picture of the economy to avoid making tough decisions that might jeopardize Biden:

[Powell is] a politician; he wants to pretend that everything is great, to let the politicians off the hook from having to actually make any of the difficult political choices. And it’s only difficult because it jeopardizes their reelection…Powell is basically doing an infomercial for the Biden Administration, talking about how great the economy is… claiming victory over inflation.”

As we stand at the crossroads of fiscal responsibility and economic fantasy, the choice is clear yet daunting. Ignoring the clarion call for immediate action in favor of complacency and political convenience not only jeopardizes our current economic stability but also mortgages the future of generations yet unborn.

Australia Plots Digital ID Launch For This Year

The controversial scheme could arrive as soon as this Summer.

The Australian government is planning a nationwide digital ID launch, which is tentatively set for this year.

While it could be delayed for logistical reasons, it’s clear that the government is fully intent on pushing a new digital ID agenda in the country.

Having first entered Parliament last year, the Digital ID Bill in Australia finished its final stage at the end of January, garnering input from business and finance groups. The country’s authorities are currently communicating with the individual states.

An announcement from the Department of Finance revealed that the novel system would empower users to select their preferred digital ID provider for the accessibility of both government and private services. Private entities can apply for accreditation to provide digital ID services under the Trusted Digital Identity Framework (TDIF), which is the government’s recognition framework.

As stated by an official spokesperson, the legislative step will set in motion the enlargement of the Australian Government Digital ID System to encompass state, territory and private sector organizations opting to participate.

The national digital ID will essentially serve as a comprehensive version of MyGovID that Australians currently utilize for the Australian Taxation Office, Centrelink and Medicare access. The strategy to retain other digital IDs issued by other state governments.

An individual user will have the capability to create a multipoint image on a device, to be validated against their passport photo or eventually, their driver’s license. Officials state that users need only establish their credentials once.

Digital IDs often involve the collection and storage of personal data, including biometric information such as fingerprints or facial recognition data. This concentration of sensitive data can be a tempting target for hackers and cybercriminals. A successful breach could lead to identity theft, fraud, or even blackmail. Moreover, there is the risk of unauthorized surveillance and tracking. Governments or other entities could potentially misuse digital ID systems to monitor individuals without their consent, infringing on personal freedoms and privacy.

Why There Were Trans Meltdowns Across Multiple DMVs in Florida

LGBT furious they can’t change “gender” on driver’s licenses.

Going to the DMV is already a pain in the neck. Imagine pulling into the parking lot and having it littered with transgender people holding a die-in.

That’s what scores of these folks did at DMVs across Florida, protesting a new state law regarding gender on driver’s licenses.

Trans folks will no longer be allowed to make those changes to their identification (via CBS News):

Amid what one critic called “an ongoing campaign to make Florida uninhabitable and unsafe for transgender individuals,” Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration quietly reversed a policy that allowed Floridians to obtain driver’s licenses that reflected their gender identity.

Robert Kynoch, deputy executive director of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, on Friday sent a memo outlining the changes to county tax collectors, who process driver’s licenses and state identification cards. The memo said that allowing people to change their gender on licenses and ID cards runs afoul of state law because gender “has historically been understood as a synonym for ‘sex,’ which is determined by innate and immutable biological and genetic characteristics.”

In addition, a driver’s license “is an identification document and, as such, serves a critical role in assisting public and private entities in correctly establishing the identity of a person presenting the license,” Kynoch wrote.

LGBT advocates accused the Ron DeSantis administration of trying to erase trans people. Hence, these antics this week:

But I doubt this will get much attention. Ron DeSantis is no longer a 2024 candidate, and the special counsel report on Joe Biden’s mishandling of classified materials dropped this week, which included details about how the president seemed aloof and aged during his deposition. It’s an issue for the president that’s not going away.

Honduran Gang Member Caught Illegally Crossing Northern Border After SIX Prior Deportations

Honduran Gang Member Caught Illegally Crossing Northern Border After SIX Prior Deportations

Known gangbanger with long rap sheet also wanted in Honduras to serve sentence for drug trafficking crimes

A Honduran gang member with a lengthy rap sheet and six prior deportations was caught illegally crossing the Canadian border into the United States this month, authorities say.

On February 1, a man identified only as a Honduran national was apprehended by border agents after he illegally reentered the U.S. near Newport, Vermont.

The man is a known member of the Sicarios New Yorkers-XV-18 branch of the 18th Street Gang, a highly-dangerous transnational criminal organization comprised primarily of Central Americans and Mexicans with a major presence in the U.S.

“The Honduran national was removed from the United States in January 2006, twice in June 2013, February 2015, July 2015 and February 2016. He has been convicted of DWI, assault and battery, unauthorized use of a vehicle, illegal entry, disorderly conduct and drug trafficking,” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) explained in a press release.

Investigators learned the Honduran is wanted in his home country after skipping town following a conviction for drug trafficking charges in October of 2022.

“This unlawfully present Honduran gang member represents a significant threat to the residents of our New England neighborhoods,” said Todd M. Lyons, field office director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston.

“Not only is he a self-admitted member of a violent criminal enterprise, but he has also repeatedly defied U.S. immigration laws in order to flee some serious charges in his home country. ERO Boston will not allow New England to become a safe haven for the world’s criminals. We will aggressively pursue anyone attempting to use our community as a hideout from justice.”

Authorities continue to apprehend dangerous foreign criminals illegally present in the U.S.

Last week, ICE announced the arrest of a previously-deported child rapist in Massachusetts who had illegally returned to the U.S. around 10 years ago and was convicted of another sex crime in 2015.

Last month, Texas troopers arrested a human smuggler wanted for murder in Mexico.

Also in January, an illegal alien from Brazil who was released into the U.S. under Joe Biden was deported to face rape charges in his homeland.
