Trump Unveils Sneaker Line After Being Found Liable for Hundreds of Millions of Dollars

On Friday, Trump was ordered to pay nearly $355 million in his New York civil fraud trial. His legal troubles have now amounted to a debt that exceeds a half-billion dollars.
Former President Donald Trump unveiled a new line of sneakers at Sneaker Con in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, a day after he was ordered to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in a New York civil fraud trial.

The line features three different types of shoes: a pair of high tops, a pair of red athletic shoes and a pair of white athletic shoes. The shoes range in price from $199 to $399. The high top sneakers are named the “Never Surrender High Top Sneaker”, are gold, and feature a “T”. They are priced at $399.
The former president was met with cheers as well as boos as he unveiled his new sneaker line.

Along with the sneaker line, Trump is also selling a “Victory47” perfume and cologne for sale at $99 each. Trump would be the 47th president if elected. And while these new lines are said to have nothing to do with Trump’s presidential campaign or the Trump organization, Trump campaign officials have promoted the line on social media, according to a not-for-profit American news agency.
“This is something I’ve been talking about for 12 years, 13 years, and I think it’s going to be a big success,” said Trump, during the unveiling of his sneakers.
According to the website that is selling his products, they are “trademarks of CIC Ventures LLC. Trump Sneakers are not designed, manufactured, distributed or sold by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization or any of their respective affiliates or principals. 45Footwear, LLC uses the Trump name, image and likeness under a license agreement.”
The former president, 77, is running in the US presidential campaign this year and it is predicted that his top competitor will be US President Joe Biden, 81, who is running for a second term. The current president’s campaign spokesperson Michael Tyler, criticized the former president’s sneaker launch.
“Donald Trump showing up to hawk bootleg Off-Whites is the closest he’ll get to any Air Force Ones ever again for the rest of his life,” he said, as a reference to the Nike sneaker, as well as the presidential air transport fleet.
The former president now owes a roughly combined $438 million following two criminal trials: one in which he was ordered to pay $83.3 million to the writer E. Jean Carroll for defamation, and $355 million in penalties that he was ordered to pay on Friday after a judge ruled that Trump had lied about his wealth for years in an effort to dupe banks and insurers. That, in combination with interest, means Trump’s debt now exceeds a half-billion dollars.
Israelis Flood Tel Aviv in Renewed Protest Against PM Netanyahu

The Israeli government faces public anger for its handling of the Gaza conflict and the welfare of its citizens in Hamas captivity, with the public demanding their release.
Tel Aviv witnessed a resurgence of anti-government demonstrators on Saturday in the biggest display of discontent toward Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for months.
The protests, which briefly subsided in the aftermath of the Hamas-led breakout from Gaza on October 7, 2023, have regained traction as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict advances into its fourth month.
Despite calls for national unity after the attacks, many are now voicing their opposition to the government’s handling of the crisis.
Saturday’s protests echoed demands for a snap election amid blaring air horns and drum beats. The flag-waving crowd faced off against riot police on horseback.
One protester, Yuval Lerner, articulated a growing sentiment of disillusionment with the Netanyahu-led administration. Speaking to the New York Times, he questioned whether the government was genuinely working for the country’s benefit.
Another demonstrator, Karen Saar, sporting a sweatshirt with the slogan “deposition now,” told the New York Times, “It’s the Kaplan protests…We’ve returned the protest movement to the place where it was before the tragedy and the war,” she hinted.
Regular mass protests opposing government moves by the Israeli PM to reform the judiciary were a familiar sight in the nation’s capital before the latest assault on the besieged Gaza Strip.
While the protests focus on domestic issues, they are not divorced from the broader context of the Israeli-Palestine conflict. The plight of hostages captured by Hamas and other groups on October 7 remains a point of contention, with demands for their release resonating alongside calls for political change.

Shipping Giant Warns of Prolonged Red Sea Crisis

Danish shipping major AP Moller-Maersk is advising customers to prepare for a prolonged Red Sea crisis that could stretch well into the second half of this year, CNBC reported this week.
The second-largest global ocean carrier has added about 6% of extra vessel capacity to its schedule, adding to operational costs, according to the report.
Major shipping companies have started sending hundreds of their vessels on longer and more expensive journeys around southern Africa’s Cape of Good Hope after Houthi rebels instituted a de facto blockade through the Red Sea to the Suez Canal. Maersk suspended operations in the region last month after the Houthis targeted two of its ships.
Meanwhile, the militants have vowed they would expand their attacks after the US and UK started bombing Houthi-linked targets in Yemen.
“Unfortunately, we don’t see any change in the Red Sea happening anytime soon,” the regional president for Maersk North America, Charles van der Steene, told CNBC. “We’re advising them the longer transit routes could last through Q2 and potentially Q3. Customers will need to make sure they have the longer overall transit time built into their supply chain.”
Traffic via the Suez Canal – the fastest route from Asia to Europe – makes up around 15% of the world’s commercial shipping. Major freight companies are now facing increased costs and skyrocketing insurance premiums due to having to divert ships.
According to van der Steen, in addition to delivery, shippers now need to quantify the cost for their supply chain to the actual costs for their supply chain. “Many of our customers factor a cost-per-unit cost for their supply chain into their budgeting, which basically is what they need to make their results work,” he said. “If that fundamentally shifts and changes, it could have a pretty significant effect on their overall costs.”
Global trade plunged by 1.3% from November to December 2023 as a result of the attacks on merchant vessels in the Red Sea, according to the latest report by the Kiel Institute.

Netanyahu to Be Ousted – Reports

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not be able to retain power after the country’s military has concluded its operation against Hamas in Gaza, Ynet media outlet has claimed, citing anonymous sources within his Likud party.
Amid mounting calls for early elections, the Israeli leader insisted on Saturday that now is “not the time for politics,” suggesting that the next vote will take place “in a few years.”
Multiple opinion polls have demonstrated that Netanyahu’s approval ratings and those of his Likud party have been on the decline since Hamas militants conducted their deadly surprise incursion into Israeli territory on October 7, 2023. Back in December, the Israel Democracy Institute, citing survey results, claimed that more than two-thirds of Israelis want general elections to be held as soon as hostilities in Gaza are over.
A survey conducted earlier this month showed that opposition parties would secure as many as 75 of the Israeli parliament’s 120 seats if elections were held now.
In its report on Saturday, Ynet quoted an unnamed senior member of Likud as predicting that “whoever was prime minister on October 7 will finish his post at the end of the war.”
Another staffer from Netanyahu’s party allegedly contended that no matter “how much Netanyahu postpones the end and how much he doesn’t want to, at the end of this war we will go to elections.” According to the media outlet, the anonymous Likud bigwig added that the prime minister would be forced to call a snap election either by members of his own political force or by other parties making up the ruling coalition, with everyone understanding that “this is what’s going to happen.”
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Netanyahu dismissed calls for a snap election, insisting that a vote for the Knesset should take place as scheduled, that is, in October 2026.
“I suggest we don’t concern ourselves with that during the war,” the prime minister said, arguing that the “last thing we need right now is elections.” Netanyahu warned that internal political division in Israel would play into the hands of Hamas.
The opposition Yesh Atid party released a statement describing the prime minister’s comments as “another performance by an unfit prime minister who, by all accounts, has long lost the public’s trust and continues to flee from the responsibility of the greatest failure to the Jewish people since the Holocaust.”
“Israel needs change. Elections are the order of the day,” the party argued.

CDC Confirms ‘Unknown’ Outbreak Aboard Cruise Ship

The CDC has confirmed that an “unknown” outbreak aboard a cruise ship is spreading, and has infected at least 154 people.
In an update this week, the agency said that so far 25 crew members and 129 passengers on the Carnival-owned Cunard Cruise Line’s Queen Victoria have fallen ill, after an initial 15 cases were reported weeks ago. The Queen Victoria has 1,824 passengers and 967 crew members aboard.
Those fallen ill have reported “symptoms of gastrointestinal illness,” however the CDC has yet to identify the exact illness.
“Cunard confirms that a number of guests had reported symptoms of gastrointestinal illness on board Queen Victoria on voyage V405 which departed Florida on [Jan. 22] and arrived in San Francisco on [Feb. 7],” said Cunard Cruise Lines in a statement to news outlets. “They immediately activated their enhanced health and safety protocols to ensure the wellbeing of all guests and crew on board and these measures have been effective.”
According to CruiseMapper, the Queen Victoria is currently on a 55-day trip that will take it from Germany to Australia – with its final destination being Honolulu, Hawaii on March 4.
Last month, nearly 100 passengers aboard a Celebrity Cruises ship, the Constellation, fell ill with norovirus after departing in early January from Florida.
As the Epoch Times reports further;
Common Outbreak Source
While the CDC report still hasn’t revealed the cause of the Cunard cruise ship’s outbreak, norovirus has been the most common source of illnesses on cruise ships in recent years. The agency reported 14 illness outbreaks on cruise ships in 2023, with norovirus being listed as the causative agent in all but one of the incidents.
Last year, for example, a norovirus outbreak sickened more than 170 people on a Celebrity cruise ship, with the main symptoms being diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and headaches.
In a normal year, according to the CDC, norovirus causes between 19 million and 21 million cases of vomiting and diarrhea, 109,000 hospitalizations, and 900 deaths across the United States. The virus also is associated with about 495,000 emergency department visits, mostly in younger children, the CDC says.
If there is a new strain of the virus, the CDC says, there can be upward of 50 percent more norovirus illnesses in a given year.
The CDC’s webpage for norovirus says the virus is very contagious and generally causes vomiting and diarrhea. “Anyone can get infected and sick with norovirus. Norovirus is sometimes called the ’stomach flu‘ or ’stomach bug,’” the agency says. “However, norovirus illness is not related to the flu.”
Other than cruise lines, norovirus outbreaks often occur in health care facilities, long-term care facilities, restaurants, child care centers, and schools. Noting the association between norovirus outbreaks and cruises, the CDC says that more than 90 percent of “outbreaks of diarrheal disease on cruise ships” are caused by the virus.
“These outbreaks often get media attention, which is why some people call norovirus the ‘cruise ship virus,’” the CDC says. “However, norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships account for only a small percentage … of all reported norovirus outbreaks. Norovirus can be especially challenging to control on cruise ships because of the close living quarters, shared dining areas, and rapid turnover of passengers.”

African Migrants Riot in The Netherlands

Police in riot gear were deployed to the streets of The Hague to quell violent clashes that broke out between two rival groups in the Dutch city late Saturday.
Two groups of Eritreans clashed in the Opera conference hall on Fruitweg Street. After an initial confrontation, police drove one group outside, attempting to keep the two apart. In the streets, rioters threw bricks, debris, and even bicycles at the conference hall and police.
Police in riot gear were seen protecting the hall from hundreds of rioters, while other first responders focused on the damage already done to the building.
The rioters set at least two police vehicles on fire. The emergency services attempted to control the fires, while officers were pulled in from surrounding areas to build up the police presence.
The mayor of The Hague, Jan van Zanen, declared a Grip 2 level regional emergency, which allows all emergency services to coordinate under a single commander. Tear gas was authorized, and the emergency order allowed police to stop and screen anyone in a 500-meter radius around the zone.
“The Public Prosecution Service has set up a Large-Scale Investigation Team to prosecute perpetrators of this chaos. I would like to ask everyone who can contribute to the rapid identification of the perpetrators of this unacceptable and unnecessary violence to cooperate,” van Zanen said.

By evening, the conference hall was damaged but secured, while a row of cars outside the building was burned out. Around 800 people took shelter inside the hall during the riot. They were led out under police escort for their safety, and bused away after 10:30pm.
According to local news, one group of rioters opposes Eritrea’s current government, and the other is pro-government.
This is not the first occurrence of violence between Eritreans in Europe. More than 50 people were hurt at an Eritrean festival in Stockholm, Sweden in August last year, when more than 1,000 anti-government protesters stormed the event and fought with festival-goers, setting fire to tents and clashing with police.
