Log Cabin Republicans Celebrate after GOP Drops Opposition to Same-Sex ‘Marriage’ from Platform

MILWAUKEE (LifeSiteNews) — Homosexual “conservative” group Log Cabin Republicans celebrated the Republican National Convention’s adoption of a new party platform that abandons the GOP’s longstanding opposition to same-sex “marriage,” crediting the development to the “visionary, inclusive, and consistent leadership” of socially-centrist former president and 2024 GOP nominee Donald Trump.
While most of the controversy over the party’s new and dramatically shortened platform has focused on its weakening of the GOP’s commitments to fighting abortion at the federal level, it also dropped the old platform’s declaration that “(t)raditional marriage and family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, is the foundation for a free society” and call for that understanding to be reflected in law, including with the “reversal” of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2015 Obergefell ruling that forces all 50 states to recognize homosexual “marriage.”
On Monday, Log Cabin Republicans issued a statement celebrating the change as a “historic moment” in the group’s decades-long work toward a “more inclusive GOP” without the old platform’s “outdated and out-of-step language opposing marriage equality.”
“It also makes clear to voters that the Republican Party welcomes all, and is looking optimistically to the future instead of cynically rehashing old debates of the past.”
After a conventionally pro-life first term, Trump has spent the past year working to stake out a middle ground on abortion that would largely relegate the issue for the states to fight out among themselves, but his positions on LGBT issues have always been more mixed during his time in Republican politics.
In 2012, as the owner of the Miss Universe beauty pageant, Trump repeatedly endorsed the inclusion of “transgender women,” i.e. men, in competition with actual women, in the name of what the Trump organization called “modernized” rules at the time, eliciting praise from LGBT pressure group GLAAD.
While running for president in 2016, Trump criticized a North Carolina law banning male students from female restrooms and said anyone should be allowed to “use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate.” By the time he was in office, he flipped on the issue, rejecting Obama-era guidelines on the subject and announcing that the Department of Education would no longer indulge bathroom-related “discrimination” complaints.
A consistent supporter of same-sex “marriage,” Trump nominated a variety of pro-LGBT officials to government posts and judicial vacancies and continued an Obama-era executive order on “gender identity nondiscrimination” and U.S. support for international recognition of homosexual relations at the United Nations Human Rights Council. His campaign actively courted LGBT-identifying voters with rainbow merchandise.
At the same time, Trump prioritized religious liberty and was generally aligned with social conservatives against the gender-fluidity movement, from banning gender-confused soldiers from the military to protecting women from having to share close quarters such as homeless shelters with men claiming to be transgendered. His White House also opposed the so-called “Equality Act” and maintained a biological definition of sex in its implementation of federal laws and regulations.
While running for office this time around, Trump has pledged to “protect children from left-wing gender insanity,” including banning federal funding, approval, and promotion of “gender transition” practices. At the same time, he has opened his Mar-a-Lago residence for several pro-LGBT uses, including a Log Cabin Republicans gala in 2022, a same-sex “wedding” in February 2024, and a LCR fundraiser in April.
While such trends raise grave questions for the long-term fate of pro-life and pro-family causes in the Republican Party, they are not expected to change the outcome this fall between Trump and incumbent Democrat President Joe Biden, whose positions on all the aforementioned issues are much farther to the left.
Polling aggregations by RealClearPolitics and RaceToTheWH indicate a slim popular-vote lead for Trump in the November election, and, more important, leads in swing states translating to an Electoral College advantage over Biden.

MEPs Call for Hungary’s EU Voting Rights to be Suspended, Demand Total Boycott of Hungarian EU Presidency Over Orbán’s ‘Peace Mission’

Following Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s trips to Kyiv, Moscow and Beijing, the EU has launched a partial boycott of meetings organized by the rotating presidency, while 63 MEPs are now calling for Hungary’s EU voting rights to be entirely suspended.
Under the boycott, the EU will only send civil servants, not commissioners, to meetings chaired by Hungary.
Not every European leader is on board with these decisions. For example, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer says boycotting Hungary is not a good solution.

“I want to express my admiration for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for not hesitating to go to both Kyiv and Moscow.
If my health allowed, I would have loved to join him. There are never enough peace talks and peace initiatives. I repeat, never enough.” pic.twitter.com/38LYTb6WgB
Orbán’s peace mission included talks in Kyiv, Moscow and Beijing in the space of a few days. This followed the announcement that the EU commissioners would boycott the Hungarian presidency and even organize their own meeting in Brussels in August. Most EU leaders condemned Viktor Orbán’s peace mission, saying that as EU president-in-office he had no mandate to partake in such a mission.
Commenting on the debate, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said that Viktor Orbán had broken a taboo, which should be discussed, but that in response to this, another taboo should not be broken, so there was no need to boycott the Hungarian EU presidency.
The Austrian chancellor said that the worst solution is for the parties within the European Union not to talk to each other, which is why ministers from the Austrian People’s Party will continue to attend the EU Council presidency meetings.

“The European Commission and the Council Presidency should resolve conflicts through discussions, not by calling for a boycott. Dialogue is the most important precondition for progress and common solutions at all political levels,” the chancellor stated.
The Netherlands will decide on a case-by-case basis whether to participate in the events of the Hungarian EU presidency, but rejects a formal boycott, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof told the Telegraaf newspaper on Tuesday.
The Dutch prime minister, whose right-wing cabinet took office on July 2, said that he believed Orbán had made it clear that these meetings were bilateral and that he did not represent the EU.
“On a bilateral basis, each country can do what it wants,” he said. Whether the Netherlands will miss meetings organized by the Hungarian EU presidency will be considered together with the other EU member states on a case-by-case basis.
NEW: ???? Donald Trump and Viktor Orbán will meet at the former U.S. president’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Thursday.

Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden recently met his Dutch counterpart and in a press statement strongly opposed the boycott of meetings of the Hungarian EU Presidency.
“In a democracy, people talk to each other,” said the Grand Duchy’s Christian Democrat head of government. He said that “Luxembourg’s positions on various issues can be better conveyed if it is represented at the meetings and communicates clearly with the Hungarians about its values.”

Members of Biden’s ‘Impenetrable’ Inner Circle Filter Negative Information to Keep Him Thinking He’s Awesome

Amid the controversial debate that ended as disastrous on his end as well as his several gaffes and blunders, President Joe Biden is not given an honest 360-degree view of his political status as members of his “inner circle” filter negative information.
According to people in his orbit, while Biden is surrounded by a diverse and multigenerational crowd of campaign operatives, policy experts and cabinet secretaries, he reserves his full trust for a small circle of insiders, a cadre of senior aides.
This includes political adviser Mike Donilon, counselor Steve Ricchetti and Deputy Chief of Staff Bruce Reed, who all have steered him through previous crises and urged him to stay in the raceeven after the disastrous face-to-face with former President Donald Trump. These three are sometimes referred to inside the White House as “the poobahs,” “the grey hairs” and, less often, “the triumvirate.”
Concerned Biden supporters and Democrats believe this shrinking group of “yes” people block negative information from getting to Biden.
“I have heard that Steve and Bruce and Mike are more dug in than he is,” said one former Biden aide with ties to the White House. “They have grown roots and are not moving.”
According to sources, many members of Congress are also finding it difficult to communicate with Biden as the triumvirate serves as a wall to the president. To address some of those concerns with stepped-up outreach to lawmakers the White House held Zoom sessions with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and Asian Pacific American Caucus on July 12. Even so, some members complained that the conversation was controlled and that questions were stifled.
Current and former Biden aides also said the “poobahs” often avoid conflicts with the president and enable his sometimes-meandering decision process. Ricchetti and Donilon are the most involved in politics, while Reed, who is nearly always by Biden’s side on the road, focuses on policy.
“Steve has been the closest aide to the president since [Biden] left the vice presidency,” a person close to Biden’s inner circle told the news outlet adding that, “None of them is known for delivering bad news.”
Moreover, Biden aides have long been skeptical of Ricchetti’s political instincts and organization skills, and now worry about how he’s handling this critical moment.
The three were said to be as close to family as staffers can get. The White House is being run by “the family and staff who are effectively family,” a group that also includes First Lady Jill Biden’s top aide Anthony Bernal and Deputy Chief of Staff Annie Tomasini, according to a person familiar with the West Wing power structure.
“[Biden] has not made changes to the group of advisers he consults, who he trusts, because they’ve demonstrated the integrity, to tell the truth, and keep the well-being of the American people front of mind,” White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said.

Democrats blame Biden’s advisers for covering up his real cognitive status
CNN reported that more than two dozen of Biden’s donors, long-time allies and current and former Democratic officials blame the president’s inner circle of advisers and family for hiding from the public his full extent of cognitive decline.
The “core group” has issued statements that have become “painstakingly choreographed daily operations” designed to prevent Biden from being in unscripted settings for extended periods.
“There’s this general sense of just, unbelievable holding your breath every time he does an event, every time he’s with people,” one top Democrat in close touch with Biden’s inner circle of advisers told the news outlet. This person added that some of those advisers have privately acknowledged that “This is going to get worse.”
The Democrat said that the president’s closest advisers have responded to any criticism or concerns expressed about him, including his age and fitness, with: “Everyone who expresses any level of suspicion or contrary views? They call everyone and they beat the s— out of them and say: ‘Stay on message.’”
“It’s not like Biden’s inner circle didn’t know this,” one Democratic strategist close to the White House said.
To further steer away from the truth, campaign officials have even rejected celebrity George Clooney’s and other donors’ characterization of Biden at the Los Angeles fundraiser, with one senior Biden official who was in attendance saying that while the president had been tired that day, he was “animated and extremely present.”
White House spokesman Andrew Bates defended the breadth of Biden’s engagements with the press, his travels and his record.
“Joe Biden has always said that it is fair for reporters to ask about his age and has always confidently shown his values, agenda, intelligence and determination to the American people,” Bates said. “Officials who meet with him frequently have spoken to his sharpness and command.”

New UK Government Signals Potential Backtrack on Plans to Drop Digital ID
It’s been mere days since former UK Labour PM Tony Blair, a globalization extraordinaire, and a (digital) ID cards enthusiast remarked that it might take “a little persuading” for his country’s new government to get with that particular program.
And it seems the new Labour government really only needed a little persuasion – after “rejecting” Blair’s call to implement digital ID cards on July 7, by July 10 there were statements by an influential party figure calling that path “inevitable.”
However, that figure – former Home Secretary David Blunkett – is not a member of the just-formed cabinet, and was with his statements challenging current Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, who opposed the idea.
But, Blunkett – who served in Blair’s government – said that “the government would have to streamline (growing digital records) into a single ID.”
Fast forward one week, and it seems Cooper’s cabinet colleague, Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology Peter Kyle, is starting to reverse course.
Somewhere in the meanwhile, Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds first said the government would be “looking at all sources of advice” – only to quickly backtrack and say there were no ID card plans.
All this leaves observers puzzled as to what the government’s actual stance on this important issue is.
Kyle spoke for ITV and attempted to separate the concept of ID cards and digital ID, which some observers rejected as little more than “playing a semantic game.”
Kyle said the new government was prioritizing “verification” (in terms of providing “one login” for access to digital services) over (digital) ID cards which he said “conjures up” (and rightly so, say opponents) images of a universal system that affects everyone on and off the internet.
When asked if he was ruling out digital ID, Kyle said he wanted to be “careful about the language” he was using.
He certainly was, because nothing was really “ruled out;” the secretary went on to speak about expanding the verification system, “easier experience,” (the old convenience) – and, “see where digital verification needs to go in the future.”
It could be reasonably surmised that Tony Blair can be satisfied with the way things are developing. Back in the day, he tried to introduce ID cards in the UK, but his “mission” is now much more ambitious with the digital element.
This time, Blair is cynically framing the scheme as necessary to “control immigration;” but opponents are rejecting digital ID as a dangerous centralization of state power (and mass surveillance).

Charlie Kirk Absurdly Claims Israeli Attack on USS Liberty is a ‘Conspiracy Theory’

Political activist and talk show host Charlie Kirk’s historical ignorance was on full display recently when he tried to claim that Israel’s attack on the USS Liberty, a well-documented historical event that even Israel itself does not dispute and has officially apologized for, is a “conspiracy theory.”
In video footage shared online of an event with Kirk, an attendee who was given the opportunity to ask him a question said: “From America First perspective, why do we give 3.8 billion dollars to Israel, which is more aid than we’ve given to Africa, more aid than we’ve given to South America, and more aid than we’ve given to the Caribbean combined, which is home to a billion poor people, especially when they deliberately attacked the USS Liberty in the 1970s?”
Kirk interrupts him to say: “That is incorrect. Do not peddle conspiracy theories in our event. That is not acceptable. Do not say that.” The anger in his voice is palpable as he tries to silence the man for bringing up an event whose existence has never been in doubt.
“Okay, Dean Rusk disagrees with you and he was the Secretary of State at the time, but that’s fine,” the man says before moving on to his next question, apparently deciding it was not his job to educate Kirk, a community college dropout, on history.
Charlie, we have news for you: the attack absolutely did occur, and the families of the 34 Americans it killed and the 171 who were wounded likely wish it was nothing more than a “conspiracy theory.” If the incident truly never happened, what would compel Israel to apologize for it and offer millions of dollars in compensation for the incident and restitution for the victims?
Israel attacked USS Liberty during the Six-Day War, killing 34 Americans and injuring 171
The USS Liberty was a noncombatant naval technical research vessel, and it was sent to the waters off the Northern Sinai coast during the Six-Day War in 1967 by the National Security Agency to monitor what was going on around the front lines in Syria and Egypt.
An Israeli aircraft carrying out routine reconnaissance spotted the USS Liberty on June 8, 1967, and reportedly couldn’t determine its country of origin. Those on the boat reported an unknown aircraft circling overhead, and their commanders ordered them to destroy the sensitive documents they had on board.
Shortly thereafter, Israel launched a two-hour attack on the boat that involved slamming it with torpedoes, napalm and bombs. Survivors say the aircraft was not marked and strafed their life rafts, while the ship’s distress signals were reportedly blocked by the Israelis.
The Israelis later claimed that they mistook the ship for an Egyptian one, and Israeli and American government inquiries concluded this was the case. However, many survivors don’t buy their story because the ship was flying an American flag and had the name “USS Liberty” written on its hull.
While accidents can and do happen in the heat of war, especially at a time when technology wasn’t nearly as advanced as it is today, some survivors and American officials think the Israelis had plenty of motivation to deliberately attack the ship. Some theorize they may have wanted to cover up their plans to seize the Golan Heights, which the ship may have picked up with its listening devices, or they might have wanted to bring U.S. into the war on the Israeli side.
Then-U.S. Secretary of State Dean Rusk, whose name was mentioned by the man questioning Kirk, was one of those who did not accept the official Israeli explanation, saying: “I didn’t believe them then, and I don’t believe them to this day. The attack was outrageous.”
Whether the attack was a case of mistaken identity, as the Israelis claim, or something more sinister aimed at stopping a U.S. intelligence operation, there is one thing that has never been in dispute: Israel, as the man at the event claimed, “deliberately attacked the USS Liberty in the 1970s,” and the fact that Kirk labeled it a “conspiracy theory” because it is inconvenient to whatever narrative he is trying to peddle should be enough to make anyone question every word that comes out of his mouth.
