Biden’s Approval Rating Drops to 38%, Approaching Record Low – Poll

US President Joe Biden’s approval rating has declined to 38%, one point away from his all-time low and significantly below the typical reelection benchmark, according to a Gallup poll released on Friday.
The poll tracked Biden’s job approval ratings among US adults across six key issues including his overall job performance, the situation in Ukraine, the US economy, the Middle East conflict, immigration issues, and foreign affairs.
The poll revealed that public satisfaction with immigration issues fell to a “new low” of 28%, 3 points down from November. Biden’s approval rating for handling the conflict between Israel and Hamas is down by 2 points to 30%.
The approval ratings for Biden’s handling of the US economy and the Ukraine conflict have improved to 36% and 40%, respectively.
Biden’s approval rating has remained below 44% since August 2021, and his average third-year rating of 39.8% ranks as the second lowest among post-World War II presidents during their first term, the pollster said.
The poll was conducted from February 1-20.

AP: Biden Moving Right on Immigration. Translation: It’s Election Time!

Is President Biden moving to the right and getting control of the border?
There was a big drop in “migrant encounters” on the border from December to January. An apparent deal with the Mexican government has resulted in Mexico cracking down on non-Mexican migrants.
Is this a real change in policy?
In a recent article, the Associated Press claims President Biden is making a “rightward shift on immigration.”
Here are some excerpts:
In his 2020 campaign, Joe Biden vowed to undo former President Donald Trump ’s immigration policies, specifically expressing frustration with a policy setting limits on the number of asylum seekers accepted each day at the southern border.
That’s why Biden let in several million border crossers in three years.
This year, Biden backed a Senate proposal that would have set daily limits on border crossings — and Democrats are planning to campaign to reelect him by emphasizing that Republicans caused the deal to collapse.
It’s referring to the recently-rejected border deal in the Senate.
As for “daily limits,” our goal for illegal crossings should be ZERO.
Democrats are reframing the immigration debate, going from embracing more welcoming policies in response to the Trump administration’s programs at the border — including its separation of hundreds of immigrant children from their parents — to declaring that they can get tough on border security and adopt policies long sought by Republicans.
After three years of bringing in millions of unauthorized border crossers, how could anyone seriously believe the administration now wants a strict border policy?
What year is it? Oh yes, it’s 2024. An election year.
The administration can accept lowering the quantity of border crossers in order to win the election.
Biden’s rhetorical shift risks straining his support from immigrants and their advocates who campaigned for him in 2020, but it appears to be working for Democrats after they won a special election in New York… Democrat Tom Suozzi, who won Tuesday’s special election in New York for the House seat once held by ousted Republican Rep. George Santos, ran ads calling for more border security and featuring an interview he did on Fox News in which he supported U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
But just talking about border security is too much for some.
More than 130 organizations from around the country sent a letter to Biden opposing the deal and the tougher standards for asylum.
The Senate border deal was too tough? That shows you where they stand.
Julián Castro, the former San Antonio mayor and secretary of housing and urban development who ran against Biden for the presidential nomination in 2020, suggested Biden and his allies were adopting the terms of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement and Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell. “Democrats, you’re never going to be cruel enough, ‘tough’ enough, anti-immigrant enough or able to deport your way to the negotiating table with McConnell and MAGA,” Castro said. “Stop playing their game.”
But what about the border-crossers who entered the country the past 3 years?
The article quotes several Democrats who have a plan for them:
- Tom Suozzi, representative-elect for New York’s 3rd congressional district, “shares Biden’s position on creating a path to citizenship for hundreds of thousands of immigrants referred to as ‘Dreamers,’ who are in the country illegally after coming to the U.S. with their families as children.”
- Democrat strategist Maria Cardona says, “We need to lean into this and not just on border security, but, yes, tough border security coupled with increased legal pathways.”
- “Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, a Nevada Democrat and the only Hispanic woman in the upper chamber, said her constituents want to see an ‘orderly process at the border.’ She said they still demand broad immigration reforms that legalize the status of ‘Dreamers’ and others who only have temporary protections from deportation.”
Amnesty, in other words. They want amnesty for all those who have already entered the country.
Remember folks, it’s an election year. Biden’s supposed “rightward shift” is a move to win the election. The goals are still the same.

Former Head of NRA Fined $4 Million by NY Court

A Manhattan court has ordered former National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre to repay more than $4 million to the gun rights group, finding him liable in a civil corruption suit brought by the state of New York.
Friday’s verdict came on the heels of a six-week trial, during which LaPierre and other NRA leaders were accused of misusing the organization’s funds, ignoring whistleblower complaints, and providing false information on state tax filings.
Jurors found that the former CEO, who had led the NRA since the early 1990s and also served as executive vice president, had failed to perform proper oversight and regularly treated himself using group funds. According to state attorneys, this included $11 million for private jet flights and $500,000 for eight separate trips to the Bahamas over a three-year period. He was ordered to pay $4.4 million to the NRA to make up for the lavish spending, while ex-chief financial officer Wilson ‘Woody’ Phillips was fined $2 million.
LaPierre resigned last month after more than 30 years running the NRA, not long before the civil corruption trial kicked off. New York Attorney General Letitia James initially filed the case in 2020, and hailed the verdict as a “major victory.”
“In New York, you cannot get away with corruption and greed, no matter how powerful or influential you think you may be,” she wrote in a social media post. “Everyone, even the NRA and Wayne LaPierre, must play by the same rules.”
James’ office added that it would seek to appoint an independent monitor to review the NRA’s finances going forward, and to ban LaPierre from ever holding a leadership position with any charitable organization in New York.
In a statement of its own, the NRA maintained that it was “victimized by certain former vendors and ‘insiders’ who abused the trust placed in them,” and went on to acknowledge that LaPierre and other former leaders had “violated their statutory obligations to discharge the duties of their position in good faith and with care.”
In addition to ordering payouts to the NRA, the jury also found the group had violated state whistleblower protections, failed to properly manage its assets, and falsified New York tax documents by misrepresenting financial information. While jurors concluded that NRA general counsel John Frazer had also violated his duties, they chose not to fine him and found no cause for his removal.
Founded in 1871, the NRA is an influential lobbying group that runs campaigns in defense of the Second Amendment to the US Constitution. It has more than 5 million members, according to the group’s website.

Senator Says Lack of Ukraine Peace Efforts ‘All About the Money’

The Biden administration’s lack of effort to negotiate a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is rooted in financial interests, US Senator JD Vance said during an interview at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
“I hate to say it, but I think it’s all about the money,” Vance said on Friday, when asked about the lack of diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Lots of money and resources being sent to Ukraine are getting “skimmed off the top,” Vance said.
Ukraine could have brokered a peace in the early days of the conflict, but the United States and the United Kingdom derailed the effort, Vance said.
Ukraine still has a chance at peace if “the whackos and the idiots” are removed from the White House, Vance said.

Tulsi Gabbard Endorses Trump for President

Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii has denounced her former party as enemies of democracy driven by a lust for power, while praising the Republican favorite for the presidential nomination, Donald Trump.
Gabbard was once the vice-chair of the Democratic National Committee, but resigned in 2016 to protest the “rigging” of the party primaries against Bernie Sanders and in favor of Hillary Clinton. On Thursday, she spoke at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), held just outside the US capital.
In her speech, Gabbard denounced the “Democrat elite and the swamp creatures in Washington” as having no respect for Americans and their rights, and being “driven by their insatiable hunger for power.”
Democrats claim that Trump will “destroy our democracy” if elected, she argued.
“They say he will be the dictator-in-chief, that if he’s elected it will be the last election this country sees. It’s laughable. This is so crazy, it’s laughable. They’re justifying their actions by telling themselves that they need to destroy our democracy in order to save it. It’s lunacy and it’s the mindset and mentality of dictators,” said Gabbard. “They are waging a multi-front battle and they will stop at nothing until they’re successful.”
She praised Trump as “a fighter” whose strength and resilience come from “a sincere love and concern for the future of our country and his care for the American people.” Meanwhile, President Joe Biden, whom she endorsed in 2020, would “crumble” under a fraction of the pressure and attacks currently directed against Trump, she said.
Gabbard denounced attempts by multiple US states to take Trump off the ballot, as well as prosecutions intended to convict him of anything ahead of the November vote. The most recent judgment against Trump’s business in New York, she said, was “very clearly a politically motivated hit job.”
The speech “sounded like an audition for the vice-presidency,” according to the Guardian, which disapproved of Gabbard’s message. The British outlet noted that she was met with “a standing ovation and cheers” and “notably more enthusiasm” than former British PM Liz Truss, who also addressed the gathering.
Trump is seeking a rematch with Biden, who officially won the 2020 election with the most votes in US history. Earlier this week, he reportedly mentioned Gabbard as a possible running mate.
The 42-year-old lieutenant-colonel in the US Army Reserve served in the House of Representatives from 2013 to 2021. She left the Democrats in 2022, denouncing them as elitist warmongers driven by “cowardly wokeness” who sought to divide Americans by “racializing every issue.”
