Young woman murdered by illegal immigrant on college campus bringing more attention to open border madness

Thousands of people gathered for a vigil at the University of Georgia on Monday to remember the life of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley, who was brutally murdered by an illegal immigrant while she went out for a morning jog on her college campus.

The murder suspect, 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra, illegally crossed into El Paso, Texas, in September 2022 and was released from U.S. Customs and Border Protection custody, according to several ICE and DHS sources.

Riley’s sorority sisters at Alpha Chi Omega set up the vigil to honor their friend alongside thousands of fellow students and school faculty.

The vast majority of mainstream media outlets totally ignored the large gathering because it clearly contradicts the narratives they’re being told to push, which is that there is no border crisis and millions of unknown illegals entering the country is a GOOD thing!

Several local media outlets covered the vigil, but it appears as if the only national news coverage came from an AP News YouTube video and a Yahoo News repost article from Fox 5 Atlanta.

The Fox 5 Atlanta article doesn’t even mention the fact that Riley was viciously assaulted and murdered, let alone tell readers the act was allegedly committed by an illegal alien.

“Augusta University nursing student Laken Riley went out for a run near the Intramural Fields on UGA’s campus Thursday morning, but never made it back home. The coroner’s office said she died of blunt force trauma to the head,” the article states.

With that explanation, she could have fell and hit her head on a rock.

Searches on both YouTube and Google for “University of Georgia vigil” or “Laken Riley vigil” only result in coverage from news outlets Axios, Yahoo, and the Independent, in addition to the sole AP video.

Network news talking heads didn’t cover the massive vigil, and outlets like CNN even told readers that conservatives upset about the murder are exploiting her death as “a symbol of xenophobia or hate.”

“Riley’s alleged killer is not representative of immigrants, nor do we even know yet if he is guilty. Any narrative that portrays undocumented immigrants generally as violent criminals is harmful and inaccurate,” a CNN article stated.

X users slammed the media for its blatant hypocrisy in failing to provide more coverage of both the murder itself and the vigil:

Suit alleges beach of “artificial intelligence startup’s founding agreement that puts humanity over profits”

Elon Musk claims in a lawsuit filed Thursday evening in the San Francisco Superior Court that ChatGPT-maker OpenAI and its chief executive Sam Altman, among others, have breached the artificial intelligence startup’s founding agreement that puts humanity over profits. 

“These events of 2023 constitute flagrant breaches of the Founding Agreement, which Defendants have essentially turned on its head. To this day, OpenAI, Inc.’s website continues to profess that its charter is to ensure that AGI [artificial general intelligence technology] “benefits all of humanity,”” the lawsuit reads. 

It continues: “In reality, however, OpenAI, Inc. has been transformed into a closed-source de facto subsidiary of the largest technology company in the world: Microsoft. Under its new Board, it is not just developing but is actually refining an AGI to maximize profits for Microsoft, rather than for the benefit of humanity.”

Besides breach of contract, Musk argues that OpenAI also violates fiduciary duty and unfair business practices and asks the startup to revert to an open source model to better humanity. The billionaire requests an injunction to prevent OpenAI, Altman, and or president Gregory Brockman – as well as Microsoft – from profiting off the startup’s AI products. 

Musk alleges that Altman, Brockman, and Microsoft conspired together to remove the startup’s board members, who were tasked with upholding its foundational mission.

“Mr. Altman hand-picked a new Board that lacks similar technical expertise or any substantial background in AI governance, which the previous board had by design,” the lawsuit said, adding, “The new Board consisted of members with more experience in profit-centric enterprises or politics than in AI ethics and governance. They were also reportedly ‘big fans of Altman.’”

According to Musk, OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, released one year ago, remains a closed model. And he said this is due mainly to commercial considerations instead of the interest of humanity.

“The internal details of GPT-4 are known only to OpenAI and, on information and belief, to Microsoft. GPT-4 is hence the opposite of ‘open AI … And it is closed for propriety commercial reasons: Microsoft stands to make a fortune selling GPT-4 to the public, which would not be possible if OpenAI—as it is required to do—makes the technology freely available to the public,” Musk said. 

He adds: “Contrary to the Founding Agreement, Defendants have chosen to use GPT-4 not for the benefit of humanity, but as proprietary technology to maximize profits for literally the largest company in the world.” 

Musk, an original board member of OpenAI, departed in 2018. In 2015, he co-founded the startup.

If AMLO thinks Abbott’s border program is useless, why even bring it up?

For years I’ve thought that the state of Texas could do more to secure its border with Mexico.

Nearly a decade ago, when Obama was president and Rick Perry was governor of Texas, I wrote an article entitled, “Texas’ Rick Perry Could Seal The Border Himself—If He Had The Will.”

It’s now 2024 and Texas Governor Greg Abbott has his border program, which is centered in the town of Eagle Pass, across the Rio Grande from Piedras Negras, Mexico.

Abbott has the Texas National Guard on the border. As a Texas National Guard veteran myself, I wish them well.

Some say Abbott isn’t doing enough, and certainly, we all wish more could be done.

But consider that he is doing more than any other border governor.

Gov. Abbott hasn’t backed down and has made a good case to the federal government that he is doing this because the feds aren’t doing their job. That’s absolutely right.

Abbott is constructing a permanent National Guard military base at Eagle Pass to house troops while they are on border duty. That’s a great idea, and it could be expanded.

It’s also encouraging that other states are cooperating by sending National Guard troops.

This is very compatible with how the National Guard is organized.

Unless a Guard unit is stationed somewhere for a special deployment, Guardsmen drill one weekend a month and for a two-week “Annual Training” period, usually in the summer.

When I was in the Texas Army National Guard, we’d usually do our two-week Annual Training at Fort Hood, the biggest military base in the United States. (Fort Hood was recently renamed, but it’s still Fort Hood to me.)

National Guard troops can and should be sent to the border to do their Annual Training and longer deployments there.

Guard units from various states rotating in and out of border duty would take pressure off Texas, as other states do their part, as well. After all, it’s the border of the United States, not just Texas.

Thus far, there hasn’t been a violent confrontation between the Border Patrol and the National Guard and Civil War II has not broken out.

Of course, the President of Mexico knows about Gov. Abbott’s project. That’s not surprising, as the Mexican media and government pay close attention to U.S. border and immigration developments.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, known by the initials AMLO, spoke mockingly about Gov. Abbott in a recent morning press conference in Mexico City.

AMLO was discussing domestic Mexican topics and suddenly started talking about Governor Abbott of Texas.

Here’s what AMLO said: “It’s like the governor of Texas, who just put a military camp there in Texas. Well, let him put all of them that he wants! Supposedly it’s going to stop migrants, right? Pure politicking, it’s not serious.”

For the record, this is not the first time AMLO has talked about Abbott.

Back in September of 2022, AMLO ranted in a couple of press conferences about Gov. Abbott.

“[T]he governor of Texas is talking about constructing a wall. We do not view that well, with all respect, that is vile propaganda,” AMLO declared.

AMLO also objected to Abbott’s declaration that Mexican drug cartels are terrorist organizations.

And, the Mexican president made demographic threats against Gov. Abbott, predicting that American citizens of Mexican ancestry would oppose him.

For example, AMLO said, “…there are many Mexicans in Texas, many Hispanics…”

In contrast to the 2022 rants, this latest mention of Abbott’s military camp was in a mocking vein. AMLO wanted to show that he doesn’t take it seriously.

But if AMLO thinks Abbott’s border program is useless, then why even bring it up?
