American Citizen Killed In Crash Caused by 16-Time Deported Suspect Driving Big Rig
An illegal alien with at least 16 prior deportations was arrested after the tractor-trailer he was driving crashed in Colorado last week, killing one motorist and seriously injuring another, according to reports.
The horrifying wreck unfolded at around 5 p.m. on June 11 near Conifer, a town in the foothills southwest of Denver.
The driver of a big rig lost control while traveling at “excessive speed” on U.S. Highway 285, and during an ensuing crash, 47,000 pounds of steel pipe and angle iron were dumped onto the road and other vehicles, 9News reports.
A man identified as 64-year-old Scott Miller was killed in the wreck, and another unidentified motorist was seriously injured.
Ignacio Cruz Mendoza, a 47-year-old citizen of Mexico who is illegally present in the U.S., was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter, vehicular assault, reckless driving, and driving without a commercial license.
Following the crash, authorities noted the brakes on Mendoza’s 5th axle were “way” below minimum requirements.
“Mendoza told Colorado State Patrol troopers he left Cheyenne, Wyoming, around 10 a.m. Tuesday and was unsure of his destination, stating it was on paperwork in his vehicle. He had been in the United States for 20 years and had driven commercial vehicles for 7 years,” the Denver Post reports, citing an arrest affidavit.
On Monday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement revealed that Mendoza has been removed from the U.S. at least 16 times since agents first encountered him in 2002 following an arrest in Oregon.
In 2022, Mendoza was reportedly convicted of speeding and operating without proper equipment in Pennsylvania.
At the time of the wreck, Mendoza was driving for Monique Trucking, a California-based company with a “history of violations,” including at least two for drivers operating without commercial licenses.
When 9News called Monique Trucking, owner Manrique Agramon reportedly communicated only in Spanish and had little to say about the fatal crash.
“Well, what can I say?” Agramon told the outlet. “Poor thing. He died.”
Mendoza is being held on $50,000 bail in Jefferson County Jail and is due in court on June 18.
