Orbán’s ‘Patriots for Europe’ Sees Rapid Growth, Meets EU Parliament Criteria to Form a Group

Patriots for Europe, the newly minted European Parliament group, created just over a week ago by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, along with the president of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ), Herbert Kickl, and the Czech ANO’s Andrej Babiš, has seen explosive growth in a short period of time. Another five parties have now joined since its initial launch, meaning it meets the criteria for starting its own faction in the EU parliament.
After the founding of the group, the Portuguese Chega party was the first to indicate that it would join the group, and then the Spanish party Vox declared it would join the Patriots for Europe party family, which it later did.

Last week, Geert Wilders, the leader of the Party for Freedom (PVV), which won the Dutch elections in November, announced that his party would join the group. On Saturday, the Danish People’s Party (DK) and the Belgian right-wing Flemish Interest (VB) party led by Tom Van Grieken decided to also join.
Thus, the Patriots for Europe party alliance has already fulfilled the conditions to become a political group: To form a political group, at least 23 MEPs representing at least a quarter of the member states are needed. At present, eight member states and 42 MEPs belong to the alliance.

The question is whether the French National Rally will join Viktor Orbán’s alliance; negotiations for this have already begun. Also, the leader of the Italian League party, Matteo Salvini, has spoken about the possibility of joining, with Salvini saying that “they are working on it.”

Mainstream Media Claims Biden is Still ‘Sharp’ at 81, Just ‘Forgetful’

The New York City-based media agency Associated Press (AP) is in the middle of controversy following an article it published titled “Biden at 81: Often sharp and focused but sometimes confused and forgetful.”
Social media users were quick to air their sentiments on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, targeting the news outlet for its obvious cover-up of President Joe Biden’s gaffes and blunders, signaling the president’s slowly deteriorating cognitive state due to old age and alleged medications and drug use.
The article was posted on the evening of Wednesday, July 3, and was updated the next day. It tackled the most recent debate face-off between Biden and presumptive GOP nominee and former President Donald Trump, where the former’s performance was widely panned as confused and mumbling.
“The June 27 face-off alarmed Democrats and his financial backers, in part, because Biden seemed so much worse than during the almost routine moments when he’s less sharp. And that has raised questions about whether he’s up for a campaign that’s only going to get nastier and whether he can effectively govern for another four years if he wins,” AP reported.
“We understand the concerns. We get it,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said this week. As some Democratic leaders called on him to drop out of the presidential race, Jean-Pierre insisted Biden had no intention of stepping away from the campaign. “The president is clear-eyed and he is staying in the race.” She also claimed that “jet lag” was the cause of his poor debate performance.
“He is often sharp and focused,” the AP article indicated of Biden. “But he also has moments, particularly later in the evening, when his thoughts seem jumbled and he trails off mid-sentence or seems confused. Sometimes he doesn’t grasp the finer points of policy details. He occasionally forgets people’s names, stares blankly and moves slowly around the room.”
On X, the Libs of TikTok account commented: “Nobody is falling for this BS anymore.”
Another user posted: “When news orgs try and push this ‘sharp’ nonsense, it no longer feels like just normal partisan bias, but insulting arrogance.”
“AP in 2024: accurate and fair but sometimes partisan and shoddy,” another commenter posted.
Public concern about Biden’s fitness for another four years of presidency never subsided. According to an August 2023 poll from the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, 77 percent of adults in the United States believe that Biden was too old to be effective for four more years. Not only did 89 percent of Republicans say that, but so did 69 percent of Democrats.
White House press corps denies covering up Biden’s mental state
After Biden’s lackluster performance during the CNN debate, concerns were raised about whether the White House press corps dropped the ball on fully covering the POTUS’ limitations.
The debate laid bare many of the concerns on the president’s mental state such as his having good days and bad days but sometimes seeming to slip up. A New York Times report raised similar concerns by those who have recently been in the room with Biden. The news outlet reported Biden has more frequent “lapses,” although at other times he appears sharp.
Nearly every media outlet has reported on growing concerns about Biden’s age well before the debate. The White House has always complained that the coverage is disproportionate and that the media is spending more time covering Biden’s age than his accomplishments as president.
But there are also claims that the media has not covered Biden’s mental fitness more aggressively because it wants to prop up the campaign in some way, an accusation the White House reporters denied.
Several White House reporters told CNN that the coverage of Biden’s age and his mental stamina should have pushed harder. They cited several difficulties in doing so before the debate, from the obvious political motivations of sources who either wanted to protect Biden’s image or project a certain image, to the blowback from pursuing such reports, especially from the White House and Democrats.
The administration has also insisted that concerns over Biden’s age was just a “right-wing talking point.”
“The right-wing media was calling him senile from day one and that wasn’t true,” the reporter said. “Then whenever you report on the age you were in some ways solidifying, giving credence to some people that were actually of bad faith.”
All the White House reporters who were sources for this story spoke on the condition of staying anonymous so they could speak more freely about their relationship with the White House.

Idaho Town Passes Radical ‘Anti-Hate Speech’ Measure, Worrying Local Christians
(LifeSiteNews) — The left-wing city council of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho passed an aggressive new “anti-hate crime” ordinance that some residents worry could make it illegal to publicly defend Christian moral teachings.
Here is Coeur d’Alene’s DRACONIAN new “Hate Crimes” ordinance, that will basically make it illegal to think the wrong way.
If found guilty, you’ll be sentenced to “[re]education.”
Dear North Idaho, you just lost your 1st Amendment right to Free Speech.#idleg #idpol pic.twitter.com/fl45eakOPp— Idaho Tribune (@IdahoTribune) July 3, 2024
On Tuesday night, the six-member committee unanimously approved a measure that punishes anyone who intimidates, injures, harasses, threatens, or is a “public nuisance” and engages in “disorderly conduct” toward another person for their “sexual orientation and gender identity,” among other civil rights classifications.
Those who violate the policy will be given a misdemeanor. They may also be slapped with a fine and a court may require them to attend a re-education program.
CBS affiliate KREM-2 further reported that “anyone who violates the code shall be ineligible for any City license, permit or activity for up to a period of three years.”
Coeur d’Alene is one of the most idyllic towns in the Republican-dominated state. Many Traditional Catholics have moved to the area in recent decades given the presence of the Priestly Society of St. Pius X and the Fraternal Society of St. Peter. One such person is former Indiana resident Dave Reilly.
Reilly, who has been engaged in grassroots activism since his move several years ago, told LifeSite today that the council members are “some of the most vulgar, disgusting, communist, Southern Poverty Law Center-affiliated, corrupt people who ever lived in Coeur d’Alene.”
“These are the exact same people who imposed mask mandates and shut down businesses during the plandemic,” he remarked. “They’ve decided to pass this ordinance to stifle the speech of their political opposition.”
Reilly encouraged fellow citizens to “liberate themselves of their occupied government and kick out the special interests and corrupt politicians that are holding our community hostage.”
Commissioners argued that previous instances of “hate” in the area is why the ordinance was needed. They said that racist terms shouted at members of the University of Utah women’s basketball team earlier this year while they were in town for the NCAA’s March Madness tournament was one such moment.
But the Idaho Tribune disputed that the incident occurred. Reporter Johnston Meadows has argued that what actually transpired is not entirely clear, despite the media pushing the dubious claim as if it were an irrefutable fact.
The Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber of Commerce announced Monday that it reversed a previous policy that banned religious items from the Fourth of July parade.

Catholic Church in Oregon Allows Buddhist Monks to Lead ‘Meditation’ Before the Altar
TUALATIN, Oregon (LifeSiteNews) — Tibetan Buddhist monks instructed Catholics in their religious practices and led them in non-Christian chants at a Catholic church in Oregon.
On June 26, 2024, five Buddhist monks were invited to Resurrection Catholic Parish in Tualatin, Oregon. According to the parish pastor, Father Bill Moisant, the monks, whom he does not name, came from the Gaden Shartse Monastery in southern India and are followers of the Dalai Lama. Photographs show that two of them gave a small group of primarily elderly Catholics a presentation on Buddhist “meditation” and led a prayer session in the nave of the church.

A concerned parishioner who attended the event and provided LifeSiteNews with photographs and video footage decried that the Buddhist monks carried out their instruction, chants, and prayers in the sanctuary before the altar and near the tabernacle. He also lamented the false characterization of Christ expressed in the course of the event and an apparent disrespect for the sufferings of Christ.
“Our Lord was compared to Buddha as a great teacher, a theologically inaccurate and offensive statement,” he told LifeSiteNews via email.
“The presentation emphasized Buddhist meditation techniques to escape suffering, seemingly ignoring Christ’s suffering and death on the Cross.”

The witness reported that parishioners engaged with the monks without expressing concerns about conflicts between Buddhist practices and the Catholic faith. He was similarly concerned that that session ended with a Buddhist prayer and offering of intentions, which he felt was a “further blurring” of “the lines between Catholic and Buddhist practices.”
“This was much more than an interfaith dialogue, this was a non-Catholic prayer session in a Catholic Church,” the parishioner continued. “It’s a matter of both location and substance.”
“When the Q&A sessions came, parishioners were asking more questions on how to conduct this in their daily lives.”
Fr. Moisant highlighted the event in the parish newsletter, saying that the monks had come “to familiarize us with their faith and to teach various forms of meditation.”
“Through meditation and a vigorous way of life, the monks are striving to attain a sense of peace, compassion, humility, joy and love with all people and to live in harmony with the environment,” he continued. “These are qualities which are familiar to Catholics, since that is what Jesus teaches us in the Gospel.”
“I pray for the continued fruitfulness of their teaching,” he concluded.
However, contrary to Fr. Moisant’s remarks, Jesus does not merely teach His disciples “to attain a sense of peace, compassion, humility, joy and love with all people and to live in harmony with the environment” but came to redeem mankind from sin and reconcile us to God through Himself, calling everyone “to that conversion without which one cannot enter the kingdom” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 545).
Canon law expressly forbids the use of Catholic churches for “anything not consonant with the holiness of the place” (Cans. 1210), which necessarily includes hosting Buddhists to instruct Catholics in non-Christian practices.

Traditional Catholic meditational practices flourished before the liturgical revolution that followed the Second Vatican Council, and the Most Holy Rosary is still widely used by Catholics to meditate upon the Life, Passion, and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Reciting or singing litanies, such as the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also has rich meditational properties. In recent decades, Catholic laypeople have been invited to return to Lectio Divina, a practice common to monastics, which is the contemplative and prayerful reading of Scripture.
In his essay “Comparing Christianity & Buddhism,” Peter Kreeft shows how the detached Buddhist conception of compassion is utterly unlike the warm and personal Christian concept of brotherly love. Meanwhile, suffering, for the Buddhist, is something unredeemable that must be escaped, whereas Christians can find meaning in suffering, thanks to the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross.
According to its online schedule, Resurrection Catholic Parish also hosts “Gentle Yoga for Everyone” classes, despite yoga’s incompatibility with Catholicism.
