WSJ Suggests Haley Should Stay In Race Because Trump Could Be Assassinated
An opinion piece from the Wall Street Journal editorial board is stirring outrage for suggesting GOP candidate Nikki Haley should stay in the 2024 presidential race because “strange things” could happen to frontrunner Donald Trump, including assassination.
In an article published after Tuesday’s primary results titled, “Nikki Haley Earns the Chance to Fight On After New Hampshire,” the publication argued the former South Carolina governor should continue because Trump could be convicted, die from old age, or be assassinated by an angry detractor.

“If she can remain competitive, there’s an argument for Ms. Haley to stay in the race through the July convention,” the WSJ wrote. “Mr. Trump faces a treacherous legal road…Ms. Haley could stay in the race, rack up delegates, and see what happens if he is found guilty.”

It added: “Strange things can happen with candidates who are this old and this disliked by a majority of the public. The 2024 election may have more twists before the Trump vs. Biden die is cast.”
The bizarre passages raised eyebrows on social media Tuesday night.
“Is there any way to read this that does not involve the WSJ saying Nikki Haley should stay in the race because Trump might die & someone might kill him?” questioned cyber expert Mike Benz.

Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who has called on Haley to drop out of the race, said it shows the mega-donors behind her campaign are hopeful something takes Trump out.
Nikki Haley’s biggest supporters include the same left-wing mega donors (e.g. Reid Hoffman) who funded the lawsuits against Trump. It’s now plainly obvious that her *sole* objective in this race is to await Trump’s unlawful elimination from the ballot & trot into power after that https://t.co/LaMCyDYeh9

Don’t take it just from me. Here are direct quotes from WSJ editorial board tonight. It’s all hiding in plain sight:

“If she can remain competitive, there’s an argument for Ms. Haley to stay in the race through the July convention. Mr. Trump faces a treacherous legal road…Ms.…
The fact that Nikki is pressing ahead exposes the ugly underbelly of this race: there’s no way she can defeat Trump through the front door, so her donor puppet masters are propping her up long enough while plotting to eliminate Trump from the ballot. It’s ugly. But it’s the TRUTH

Others also perceived the passages as a veiled threat.
“Die is cast” is from Julius Caesar when he crossed the Rubicon to wage war against the establishment Senators of Rome. An insurrection.
— Mark Blair (@mblair) January 24, 2024
Caesar took power and the Senate stabbed him in the back.
To stop Trump “before the die is cast” is haunting… Weird parallels.
WSJ knew what they were doing with their suggestive word choice at the end of the quote where they used the word “die.”

Shame on them. It’s essentially a threat against Trump.
WSJ is right though about Nikki waiting things out as the lawfare continues. That’s her sick strategy.
That sounds more like a threat to a leading presidential candidate.
— Te?asLindsay™ (@TexasLindsay_) January 24, 2024
An establishment rag till the end.
They’re literally implying he’s going to be killed.
— JD Sharp (@imjdsharp) January 24, 2024
There is zero chance this language would be used for any other Presidential candidate. WSJ knew exactly what the article sounded like & was meant to imply.
— Eric Pistey (@shawnpisteySC) January 24, 2024
“Strange things” sounds ominous. They know they can’t beat him fairly so must resort to extremely illegal options.
— Banana Republic Justice Swan ? (@TheWuhanClan) January 24, 2024
The menacing commentary comes just days after Alexander Soros was accused of issuing a veiled death threat towards Trump after he posted an image on social media showing a bullet hole and a wad of $47.
Why does this look like comms? Did someone just call for a hit on 47? ?

Last month, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) also highlighted a Washington Post article warning of a forthcoming “Trump dictatorship” in 2024 that was accompanied by a thumbnail of assassinated Roman leader Julius Caesar bursting out of Trump’s head.
They’re obviously green-lighting assassination. pic.twitter.com/rSocx7WFKc

It seems the Deep State is keeping all options on the table as the uncertainty of a prospective second Trump presidency looms.

Kiev Shot Down Russian Plane Carrying Ukrainian POWs, Moscow Says
Kiev’s forces knowingly downed a Russian plane carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war that crashed on Wednesday, killing all on board, in order to pin the attack on Moscow, the Defense Ministry has said, adding that Kiev had once again shown its “true colors”.
In a statement following the incident, the ministry revealed that a Russian IL-76 cargo plane had crashed in Belgorod Region, claiming the lives of 65 Ukrainian POWs, as well as six crew members and three Russian soldiers.
The Defense Ministry claimed that the “Kiev regime committed a terrorist act” by targeting the plane, which was transporting POWs for a further prisoner exchange, from the Chkalovsky military airbase near Moscow to Belgorod.
Russian officials stated that the plane had been hit at 11:15am local time by Ukrainian air defense forces stationed in Kharkov Region, adding that the military had registered the launch of two missiles.
Confirming that everyone aboard was killed in the attack, the ministry said that the Ukrainian leadership was well aware of the flight and its mission. It noted that Moscow and Kiev had agreed to conduct a prisoner exchange later on Wednesday near the Russian border village of Kolotilovka in Belgorod Region.
“Nevertheless, the Nazi Kiev regime [carried out this attack] in a bid to accuse Russia of killing members of the Ukrainian military. By committing this terrorist act, the Ukrainian leadership showed its true face, disregarding the lives of its citizens.“
Russian officials stated earlier that the attack used either US-made or German air defense systems, with State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin urging Kiev’s Western backers to finally realize that they are backing a “Nazi regime.”
Russian MP Andrey Kartapolov said a second plane had been carrying another 80 captured Ukrainian troops, which was swiftly diverted from the danger zone after the first aircraft was attacked.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has so far declined to comment on the incident, saying only that it was looking into the matter. However, Andrey Yusov, a spokesman for Kiev’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR), confirmed that Russia and Ukraine were indeed scheduled to carry out a prisoner exchange on Wednesday, adding that it had since been canceled.
Ukrainian newspaper Ukrainskaya Pravda initially reported, citing unnamed defense officials in Kiev, that the Il-76 was destroyed by the country’s military. Later, however, it removed the mention of Kiev’s role in the attack.

“High Degree Of Risk” – US, Maersk Warn Shippers to Steer Clear of Red Sea Crisis
Two months of drone and missile attacks on commercial vessels, as well as hijackings, in the highly contested Red Sea region by Iran-backed Houthi rebels, have yet to abate as economic costs mount for shippers and increased risks of snarled global supply chains.
The latest evidence that Red Sea disruptions will persist is a notice from the Department of Transportation informing commercial ship operators to avoid the “Southern Red Sea between 12N and 16N.”
There continues to be a high degree of risk to commercial vessels transiting the Southern Red Sea between 12N and 16N. While the decision to transit remains at the discretion of individual vessels and companies, it is recommended that US flag and US-owned commercial vessels remain North of 18N in the Red Sea or East of 46E in the Gulf of Aden until further notice.
Besides Houthi attacks on Western vessels, the US and allies have ramped up attacks on the rebels in Yemen with repeated airstrikes.
Bloomberg reported early Wednesday that one of the world’s largest shippers, Maersk, told clients in a notice to prepare for supply line disruptions as containerized vessels are rerouted to the Cape of Good Hope, which takes an extra 1-2 weeks for Asia to Europe shipping lanes.
“While we continue to hope for a sustainable resolution in the near-future and do all we can to contribute towards it, the situation currently remains untenable,” Maersk said.
According to Flexport data, more than 500 container ships that would have sailed through the Red Sea have been rerouted to the Cape of Good Hope at the southern tip of Africa. This is about a quarter of all the container shipping capacity in the world.
Meanwhile, a new report from the Financial Times, citing “American officials,” says the US has asked China to help rein in Houthi rebels.
Officials have repeatedly raised the matter with top Chinese officials in the past three months, asking them to convey a warning to Iran not to inflame tensions in the Middle East after Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel and the ensuing war.
US national security adviser Jake Sullivan and his deputy, Jon Finer, discussed the issue in meetings this month in Washington with Liu Jianchao, head of the Chinese Communist party’s international department, according to US officials. Secretary of state Antony Blinken also raised it, said a state department official. -FT
In recent weeks, Red Sea diversions have tightened capacity and resulted in soaring container prices:
“We haven’t seen costs increase this quickly since the last crunch in the pandemic,” said Vincent Iacopella, a logistics expert at Alba Wheels Up, who spoke with Bloomberg.
Iacopella said, “Many of the underlying bottlenecks in supply chains remain, even though prices dropped last year as the Covid-19 disruptions faded.
The cost of shipping containers from China to the Mediterranean Sea has quadrupled since late November.
We pointed out last week that executives and investors are becoming concerned about Red Sea disruptions in earnings calls.
Using the Document Search function on Bloomberg, earnings-call mentions of “Red Sea” topped 41 last week, a record high. As the earning season progresses, the mentions will likely increase.
And as of writing this note, Sky News reports Houthi forces “fire a second missile from Al-Bayda towards the Gulf of Aden.”
President Biden’s Operation Prosperity Guardian faces severe hurdles as the West’s move to secure the critical waterway has failed so far.
