The study suggests that Canada’s upper limit on MAID deaths might reach 10.5 percent of all annual deaths if current trends continue.

An investigation by Alex Schadenberg, executive director of the London, Ontario-based Euthanasia Prevention Coalition (EPC), found that over 15,000 Canadians chose to be euthanized in 2023.

Schadenberg and the EPC’s researchers used information from the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec regarding how many individuals in those provinces chose to take up services from the federal government’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) assisted suicide program.

Schadenberg and the EPC noted that their data is limited because they were unable to access MAID records from the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan and the Canadian Territories of Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and Yukon, indicating a high likelihood that more Canadians could have chosen medically assisted suicide in 2023.

Here is what the investigation found:

• In Quebec, CBC Radio Canada reported a significant increase in euthanasia deaths, totaling 5,686 cases in 2023.
• In Ontario, data released by the Office of the Chief Coroner in December 2023 showed 4,641 euthanasia deaths, an 18 percent rise from 2022’s 3,934 MAID cases.
• In Alberta, the Alberta Health Services reported a total of 977 medically-assisted suicides in 2023, a more than 18 percent increase from 2022’s final tally of 836 cases.
• In Nova Scotia, the provincial government recorded 342 MAID assisted deaths in 2023, up over 25 percent from 272 in 2022.
• In Manitoba, preliminary data obtained by Global News indicated 236 assisted deaths in 2023, up six percent from 223 medically-assisted suicides in 2022.
• British Columbia’s MAID report for 2023 documented 2,767 assisted deaths that year, a 10 percent increase from 2022’s 2,515 cases.

Combining these provincial datasets for 2023 adds up to a total of 14,413 assisted deaths, an increase of 15 percent from the 12,490 assisted deaths in 2022 in those provinces. Given that, in 2022, the total number of reported assisted suicides is 13,241 – or around six percent more – Schadenberg and the EPC came up with an estimated number of 15,280 assisted deaths nationwide in 2023.

Canadians are 15 times more likely than Californians to choose assisted suicide

Recent reports suggest that Canada’s MAID cases could rise dramatically – possibly reaching one in 10 deaths by the end of the decade.

This prediction stems from a study published in Mortality examining why Canada sees significantly more MAID cases than similar assisted suicide cases in California, despite both regions legalizing the practice in 2016. Despite similar population sizes and demographics, as well as comparable leading causes of death and overall mortality rates, the contrast in MAID uptake is stark.

In 2022, 853 Californians opted for MAID, whereas 13,241 Canadians chose the same path according to official documentation. MAID accounted for 4.1 percent of all deaths in Canada in 2022, but only 0.27 percent in California.

The study suggests that Canada’s upper limit on MAID deaths might reach 10.5 percent of all annual deaths if current trends continue. Researchers explored 10  hypotheses to explain this 15-fold difference between Canada and California, focusing on factors influencing Canadians’ higher MAID uptake.

Key findings include greater awareness of MAID among Canadians compared to Californians, with 67 percent versus 25 percent knowing about the option for terminal illness.

Canada also boasts six times more health care practitioners assigned to MAID services per capita, and federal and provincial health authorities provide assisted suicide services with better institutional support, facilitating easier access to euthanasia.

While moral acceptance and the mode of death – self-ingestion in California versus injection in Canada – showed no significant differences, Canada’s recent expansion of MAID to include conditions not resulting in imminent death did not fully account for the disparity.

Critics cite potential oversight issues in Canada contributing to higher MAID rates, though Canada has stricter penalties for non-compliance.

In conclusion, the study calls for a deeper examination of how Canada’s health care system integrates MAID, cautioning against its normalization as a form of therapy. Critics argue that Canada risks failing to protect vulnerable populations if MAID becomes more commonplace.

Following the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, a liberal group in Hungary has launched a poll on when the Hungarian prime minister will be shot. Fidesz caucus leader Máté Kocsis drew attention to the poll on the social media page.

“Immediately and by all means, we must take action against all forms of incitement to violence and against life,” wrote the Fidesz leader. He added that “we know the cowardly and sneaky methods of the liberal media. Now, they will say on a regular basis: ‘Come on, we criticized the post of a joke site for nothing, because it’s just humor, it’s just wit, it should not be taken seriously.’”

The politician posted a screenshot from the group as well, along with the poll asking Facebook users if they thought Orbán would be assassinated next. The group is known for its anti-Orbán posts and opposition to the politician.

“But those days are gone. We should take it seriously because there is nothing humorous or witty about it, especially in the shadow of the assassination attempts against Fico and Trump,” said Máté Kocsis.

“This is cold-blooded, from blind liberal haters who think it’s enough to disguise their anger as a joke,” Kocsis wrote.

“Viktor Orbán is only secondarily a politician, first and foremost a father of five and grandfather of six,” he stressed, adding: “Enough of the liberals’ incitement, enough of their sneakiness, enough of their aggressive hatred!”

Diabetes or pre-diabetes affects around half the entire US population

A clear association exists between levels of glyphosate exposure and diabetes in US adults, according to a new study.

Over 1.8 million tons of glyphosate, the active ingredient in the Roundup herbicide, are used annually in the United States, at a rate of about 0.75 pounds per acre of crops, across 298 million acres of agricultural land. The Midwest, California and Texas together account for 75% of all glyphosate use in the nation.

Studies have suggested that over 80% of Americans over the age of six have detectable levels of glyphosate in their urine. A study of pregnant women from the Midwest showed that 99% of subjects had the chemical in their bodies.

Nearly 40 million people in the US are estimated to have diabetes, or 11.6% of the population.  30 million have been diagnosed with the condition. A further 97.6 million people, or 38% of the population, are estimated to have prediabetes, the early stages of the condition.

For the new study, researchers took urine samples from nearly 3,000 adults and measured them for levels of glyphosate and glycosylated haemoglobin, a key index of diabetes risk. They also used patient information about diabetes diagnoses.

The researchers found a significant positive correlation between levels of urinary glyphosate on the one hand and glycosylated haemoglobin and diabetes diagnoses on the other.

Glyphosate was also recently discovered in the semen of French men at concentrations four times higher than in the blood. Seventy-three of 128 men tested as part of the study had the chemical in their seminal fluid. The highest concentrations, unsurprisingly, were found in the semen of a farmer, who was probably spraying the stuff all over his fields.

It’s also recently been suggested that glyphosate may be responsible, at least in part, for the stunning rise in autism cases in the US in recent decades.
