Putin’s Remarks About Biden Also True for VP Harris, Kremlin Says

“We do not have a favorite candidate, but the Democrats are certainly more predictable. What Putin said about Biden’s predictability applies to almost all Democrats, including Mrs. Harris,” says Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent remark about the predictability of US President Joe Biden also applies to his vice president turned presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday.

Asked whether Russia would prefer to see Joe Biden or Donald Trump as the next US president, Putin described Biden as more preferable because he was more experienced and predictable.

“We do not have a favorite candidate, but the Democrats are certainly more predictable. What Putin said about Biden’s predictability applies to almost all Democrats, including Mrs. Harris,” Peskov said in a recorded interview published on social media.

Peskov lamented the state of US-Russian relations, saying tensions between the two were at their highest, having reached a breaking point under the Biden administration.

“They have reached the breaking point… The last drop fell,” he said.

When asked about the future of Democrats’ policy on Russia and the European Union, Peskov said it was also easy to predict.

“It is all predictable. They will stick to the same policy toward us, they will predictably continue to put pressure on EU member states, and they will continue to enslave those countries politically and economically,” he said.

‘It was hard to believe’

US Involvement in Ukrainian Conflict

The United States is directly involved in the Ukrainian conflict, despite numerous statements to the contrary, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov added.

“The United States, despite many statements to the contrary, is directly involved in the conflict around Ukraine. It is demonstrating a tendency toward increasing the level of involvement in this conflict,” Peskov said in a recorded interview published on Telegram on Sunday.

The spokesman accused Washington of “an undisguised hostile attitude” toward Russia. He said the US had spent decades piling pressure on Russia and trampling on its interests.

Trump Won’t Solve All Problems Overnight

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump will not be able to resolve all problems overnight if elected, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday.

Trump has repeatedly promised during the presidential campaign to settle the conflict between Ukraine and Russia in 24 hours after coming into the White House.

“I do not think he has a magic wand or that anything can be done overnight,” Peskov said in a recorded interview published on social media, commenting on Trump’s campaign promises.

The Kremlin spokesman rejected as impossible speculations that a new US president could announce an end to US military support for Ukraine and call on the parties to sit down at the negotiating table in their inaugural speech in January 2025.

Peskov said relations between Russia and the United States had hit rock bottom under Biden and looked unsalvageable for the time being.

“Mr Biden’s presidency has become the culmination of all processes in our bilateral relations. They are probably at their historic low at the moment,” Peskov said, adding that so far, he had seen no prospects for them “entering a growth trajectory.”

French Election Winners Move to Impeach Macron

The LFI argues that democracy should be protected from the president’s “authoritarian leanings”

The France Unbowed (LFI) party, part of a broad left-wing coalition that secured the largest share of seats in the July parliamentary election, is gathering signatures to remove President Emmanuel Macron from office.

The move comes after Macron refused to appoint the New Popular Front coalition’s candidate – Lucie Castets – as prime minister.

“The draft resolution to initiate the procedure for the impeachment of the President of the Republic, in accordance with Article 68 of the Constitution, was sent today to parliamentarians for co-signatures,” the LFI’s parliamentary leader, Mathilde Panot, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.

To initiate the impeachment process, the LFI, which has 72 seats in the 577-seat National Assembly, must collect signatures from at least 10% of the members of parliament under its motion. Article 68 of the French Constitution stipulates that the action could be implemented “in the event of a breach of duty manifestly incompatible with the exercise of his mandate.”

“Macron refuses to submit to the people’s vote, so we must dismiss him,” Panot explained, sharing the draft of the resolution, which stated that “the National Assembly (lower house) and Senate can and must defend democracy against the president’s authoritarian leanings.”

The lawmakers argued that it is not up to the president “to do political horse trading,” referring to Macron’s struggle to find a new prime minister since accepting Gabriel Attal’s resignation last month.

The LFI is part of the New Popular Front alliance (NFP) – along with the Socialists, Communists, and Greens – which emerged as the winner of the snap parliamentary election called by Macron earlier this year.

The coalition fell short of an outright majority, forcing Macron to enter negotiations to appoint a new prime minister and form a government.

On Monday, the French leader rejected the NFP’s candidate, Lucie Castets – a civil servant who is not a member of any political party – arguing that such a government would threaten “institutional stability.”

Meanwhile, French media have noted that it would be hard to find a new PM “who would not be immediately ousted in a confidence vote.”

Macron called the snap vote in June after his centrist Ensemble bloc’s poor showing at the European Parliament election. After the first round saw Marine Le Pen’s right-wing National Rally (RN) in the lead, Macron reached a last-minute “strategic voting” deal with the NFP to prevent the RN from securing majority in the National Assembly.

Despite Macron’s bloc coming second in the election, the president has the sole power to name the prime minister, who is not formally required to be a candidate from the winning party.

The RN, which came third in the National Assembly vote, has stated that it will block any candidate from the left-wing alliance, arguing that the NFP represents “a danger to public order, civil peace, and obviously to the economic life of the country.”

Car Thefts Have Become a “World Epidemic”

Rising number of stolen vehicles at ports on East Coast

It looks like the U.S.’s sole export is no longer just dollars and inflation…we’re also exporting the products of our rising crime rate.

A new report last week says that stolen vehicles have become a “world epidemic” and that there is a rising number of stolen vehicles at east coast ports, according to CBS

The number of cars seized at the Port of Newark is on the rise, according to CBS News New York’s Derick Waller.

Jeffrey Greene, acting director at the Port of New York and Newark, oversees customs officials using x-rays to inspect containers and seize stolen cars. In one case, two junk vehicles concealed a pristine Mercedes, while another container held a stolen Chevy Silverado.

So far this year, they’ve seized 331 vehicles, on pace to surpass last year’s total. Investigators say West African markets, especially Nigeria, offer the highest prices. Social media videos show luxury SUVs being unloaded from containers, sometimes still sporting American license plates.

Greene commented: “So last year, the Port of New York-Newark here, we led the country in seized vehicles … We had 368 vehicles. That’s more than a car a day.”

The CBS report says young people are often recruited for car thefts, according to Homeland Security Special Agent William Walker, who leads an auto crime task force.

In one case, thieves in Totowa stole a luxury SUV by entering through an unlocked kitchen window to grab the key fob. Laura, a Morris County resident, tried storing her BMW keys in a “Faraday cage” to block devices used by thieves. Despite this, her SUV was stolen after thieves broke into her home through a locked window.

Car thefts have surged in Newark, up 99% from 2022 to 2023. Montville Police Chief Andrew Caggiano is advocating for changes to New Jersey’s bail reform law, arguing that repeat offenders are frequently released, according to the report

“You can usually drive around at leisure with that plate on. No one will ever question you. It’s a world epidemic ... And it’s because the organized criminals, they’re probably laughing at us, actually, because they’re not only making lots of money, but they don’t have to, actually have to do much work,” former police officer Dr. Ken German said.

Trump: ‘Getting Along With Russia Is Good’

Engaging positively with such countries as Russia and North Korea is a “smart” thing to do, the former US president says

Engaging with Russia and North Korea, and “getting along” with them, would be a “good thing,” former US President Donald Trump has argued.

Speaking at an election rally in Pennsylvania on Friday, the Republican nominee touted his diplomatic efforts to fix Washington’s ties with Pyongyang, referring to his 2019 meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas.

“I got along with Kim Jong-un of North Korea. Remember I walked over… the first person to ever walk over from this country,” Trump claimed.

“We also looked at his nuclear capability. It’s very substantial,” he added. “You know, getting along is a good thing. It’s not a bad thing.”

“Getting along” with Moscow is also not “a bad thing,” Trump said. He went on to harshly criticize the incumbent administration, claiming President Joe Biden has a very low IQ “and maybe now it’s nonexistent,” as he has “completely lost his mind.”

“Getting along with Russia is good, not bad. Remember, getting along with these people is smart.”

The Republican nominee repeated his claim that “what is happening now in relations with Russia would not have happened” if he were still in office.

Trump’s remarks came in response to accusations from his election rival, Vice President Kamala Harris. In her Democratic nomination acceptance speech in Chicago last week, she criticized the former president for his relations with the North Korean leader – claiming she would not “cozy up to tyrants and dictators like Kim Jong-un who are rooting for Trump.”
