Pro-Abortion New Mexico Man Charged After Swerving Car at Pro-Lifer, Stealing Sign

Derek Moore faces up to 18 months in prison for swerving his car at Abortion Free New Mexico leader Bud Shaver outside a local abortion facility and then confronting him and stealing a pro-life sign.

ALBUQUERQUE (LifeSiteNews) – A New Mexico man is being charged with larceny and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after swerving his car toward a pro-life activist outside an area abortion facility, then having a verbal altercation and stealing a pro-life sign.

Abortion Free New Mexico (AFNM), which maintains daily “peaceful, prayerful” sidewalk counseling outside the city’s three abortion facilities, reports that the incident took place on August 15 outside the Whole Woman’s Health abortion center, where AFNM leader Bud Shaver was standing with a sign. After swerving his car toward Shaver, the man later identified as Derek Moore parked and confronted Shaver, which Shaver recorded.

Moore can be heard telling Shaver he could not erect the sign on public property and seen taking it upon himself to remove it. An argument ensues, during which Shaver says, “you want to hit me with your car, punk?” Moore first denies he did anything, then strikes a dismissive tone: “Call the cops, they won’t do anything.” Shaver films Moore walking away with a sign bearing the message, “Love Will End Abortion.”

According to the police report from the Albuquerque Police Department (embedded in AFNM’s story), Moore denies any nefarious vehicular intent and claims he was merely “distracted and accidently pulled to close [sic] to a curb, then swerved back into his lane and continued on his way.” He told police he “saw someone (Shaver) obstructing the sidewalk with a bunch of garbage, so he parked his car. Derek stated he then went and picked up a piece of the garbage to ‘throw it out’. Derek stated (Shaver) followed him and called him a communist. Derek stated (Shaver) was having an ‘illegal protest and obstructing the sidewalk’.”

If convicted, Moore faces up to 18 months in prison on the assault charge. The pro-life group adds that he has since been identified by other local pro-life activists, who relayed that he has a history of similar harassment.

“Abortion Free New Mexico would like to thank the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) for responding so quickly to this incident and following through with the charges,” responded AFNM spokeswoman Tara Shaver. “Hopefully, the unhinged Derek Moore will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. A strong message needs to be sent to the pro-abortion community that they can’t attack peaceful pro-life Christians for simply living out their Christian faith in the public square.”

“Abortion Free New Mexico volunteers go the the sidewalks outside of local abortion centers with love and compassion,” Shaver added. “Clearly our peaceful, prayerful presence is having an impact. Our team will not be deterred, we will purchase some more signs and materials and return to Whole Woman’s Health abortion facility more resolute than ever to help pregnant women in need and save precious babies’ lives.”

Despite longstanding pro-abortion efforts to paint the pro-life movement as “violent extremists,” violence on behalf of abortion has always been more prevalent than commonly acknowledged. In February, the conservative Family Research Council reported that violent attacks and threats on Christian churches across the United States more than doubled from 2022 to 2023 and rose by 800 percent since 2018, with a significant portion of the most recent violence motivated by pro-abortion anger at the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade in June 2022. Yet the federal government has been far more aggressive in prosecuting pro-lifers than their opponents.

U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) recently sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray asking him to explain the disparities in prosecutions related to abortion activism.

Canadian Pastor Convicted of ‘Criminal Harassment’ for Protesting Drag Queen Events Targeting Children

An Alberta judge found Derek Reimer guilty of ‘criminal harassment’ for expressing his opposition toward a ‘drag queen story hour’ event targeting children at a public library in Calgary.

CALGARY, Alberta (LifeSiteNews) — A judge has found a Canadian pastor guilty of “criminal harassment” for protesting “drag queen story hours” targeting children at a public library earlier this year and for breaching his bail conditions, which ban him from protesting at any LGBT-themed event.

“A judge found me guilty today of criminal harassment for expressing my opposition towards drag queen story hour to a library manager set on hosting the event. For posting the video of our interaction on Facebook, and saying we’ll be back (to protest) if the event continues,” said Calgary Christian pastor Derek Reimer in a message sent to LifeSiteNews.

Reimer is the leader of MISSION7, a Christian organization that focuses on outreach to the homeless of Calgary. He told LifeSiteNews that his charges, handed to him from the Alberta Court of Justice by Justice Karen Molle on August 22, stem from incidents from March 25 to April 2.

“This charge is punishable up to two years, and I will be posting the sentencing date soon,” he noted.

While finding Reimer guilty of “criminal harassment,” Molle also acquitted him on charges of causing a disturbance, dismissing two charges alleging that he caused a public disturbance after he used a loudspeaker outside two separate drag story events. Molle ruled that these were not criminal offenses.

Additionally, Reimer was found guilty of four counts of breaching his bail conditions, which ban him from protesting outside “drag queen story time” events in Calgary.

The pastor’s lawyer, Andrew MacKenzie, noted that an appeal of the August 22 ruling is possible. As it stands now, he is out free on bail.

Reimer is still facing a court decision on charges from an incident that occurred on February 25, 2023, in which he was charged with causing a disturbance and mischief for protesting outside another drag event targeting children. He was forcibly removedfrom a public library after protesting at the event, at which he said, “homosexuality is a sin.”

For this charge, he was also banned from being within 300 meters from any LGBT event.

As reported by LifeSiteNews earlier this year, trespassing charges against Reimer for praying in a municipal building were dismissed.

He has been arrested many times for protesting “drag queen story time” and other LGBT events in his city.

Last April, his van was vandalized with an anti-Christian message as well as a satanic symbol while he was in jail for yet another arrest related to his pro-family activism.

Last year, Calgary passed a new “Safe and Inclusive Access Bylaw” that disallows “specified protests” both inside and outside all city-owned and affiliated public buildings.

The bylaw means pastors or concerned parents protesting pro-LGBT events at public buildings will be barred from getting within 100 meters of any such location.

Those who are found guilty of breaking the bylaw, such as Reimer, can face fines of up to $10,000 and one year in jail.

Macron Rejects Left-Wing Government

The French president is tasked with deciding who to nominate for prime minister after his party’s defeat this July.

French President Emmanuel Macron has refused to accept the left-wing New Popular Front’s candidate for prime minister, saying it would be a threat to “institutional stability,”according to a communique released by the Elysee Palace on Monday.

The parliamentary election in July gave the left-wing alliance more seats in the National Assembly than the competitors, but not enough to govern, forcing the president to conduct successive rounds of talks to appoint a new prime minister and form a new government.

As president, Macron is responsible for confirming the new head of the government. However, he dismissed the idea of allowing the left-wing coalition to hold the office of prime minister, leaving the nation in a political deadlock.

“My responsibility is that the country is not blocked nor weakened,” Macron said in a statement, claiming that a left-wing government “would be immediately censored by all the other groups represented in the National Assembly” and “the institutional stability of our country therefore requires us not to choose this option.”

The parliamentary election in July left 577 seats in the National Assembly divided between the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) alliance with over 188 seats, followed by Macron’s centrist alliance at around 161, and Marine Le Pen’s National Rally at 142. The Republicans received 48 seats, while the remaining 38 were divided between minor parties.

Launched in June as a broad left-wing alliance, the NPF comprises France Unbowed (LFI), the Socialist Party, the Greens, the French Communist Party, and other political parties, composing the majority of the left wing in France.

The alliance has put forward Lucie Castets, a 37-year-old economist and director of financial affairs at Paris City Hall, as its candidate for prime minister. After Macron’s announcement, Jean-Luc Melenchon, the LFI leader, accused the president of creating an “exceptionally serious situation.”

Commenting on the move, the secretary-general of the Greens, Marine Tondelier, said the decision is “a disgrace”and “dangerous democratic irresponsibility,” adding that Macron is ignoring the election results.

LFI also called for protests to urge Macron to “respect democracy,” and said it would present a motion of impeachment of the president.

Chinese Communists Allegedly Infiltrated Canada’s Federal Election in 2021, Records Show

Ex-Conservative MP Leona Alleslev said she was told by Chinese Canadians that they were afraid to vote for her because they knew foreign operatives were working at polling stations.

OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) – Documents from a federal inquiry looking at meddling in Canada’s past two elections by foreign state actors show that agents of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) allegedly worked as Elections Canada poll workers in the 2021 campaign.

According to the documents, former Conservative MP Leona Alleslev noted in a sworn affidavit that she was told by Chinese Canadians they knew foreign operatives were working at polling stations.

“Around half the Chinese Canadian constituents she canvassed would tell Ms. Alleslev they were afraid to vote for her because they feared repercussions against themselves or their family members both in Canada and in China,” said Alleslev’s as per her affidavit, which was filed with the Commission on Foreign Interference.

According to the affidavit, as reported by Blacklock’s Reporter, some people claimed that they took the threat “seriously because there were agents of the Chinese Communist Party working in the local Elections Canada office and in the polling stations or monitoring outside of the significantly reduced number of polling stations to watch who voted.”

Despite this, Alleslev did not let Elections Canada or the Office of the Commissioner of Canada Elections know about these concerns while on her campaign due to “her experience with Elections Canada’s lack of clear process, unresponsiveness and inaction on other matters.”

Besides Alleslev, who lost the 2021 election to Liberal MP Leah Taylor Roy, other MPs have accused Elections Canada of not being responsive when it came to such complaints. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberals won the 2021 election by a narrow margin.

The Foreign Interference Commission was convened to “examine and assess the interference by China, Russia, and other foreign states or non-state actors, including any potential impacts, to confirm the integrity of, and any impacts on, the 43rd and 44th general elections (2019 and 2021 elections) at the national and electoral district levels.”

The commission is headed by Justice Marie-Josée Hogue, who had earlier said she and her lawyers will remain “impartial” and will not be influenced by politics. In January, Hogue said that she would “uncover the truth whatever it may be.”

Thus far, the Commission has revealed that there were 13 electoral ridings with suspicious activity. The Commission is currently on break and will resume regular hearings in September.

As for Trudeau, he has praised China for its “basic dictatorship” and has labeled the authoritarian nation as his favorite country other than his own.

To date, Trudeau has been coy and has never explicitly stated whether he was ever told by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) that CCP agents’ actions were in breach of the nation’s Elections Act.

A few months ago, the head of Canada’s intelligence agency testified under oath that he gave Trudeau multiple warnings that agents of the CCP were going after Conservative MPs, yet the prime minister has denied receiving these warnings.
