Administration appears to have waited until market close on Friday to start bombing.

Update(1715ET): Importantly, there have been no reports of US airstrikes in Iran this evening, and US officials say that the Pentagon does not plan to hit targets inside the Islamic Republic. But the strikes on eastern Syria and in Iraq were large. According to a CENTCOM statement, the initial wave, which started at 4pm US Eastern Time (interestingly, just after markets closed), included over 85 targets, with some of them hit more than once:

At 4:00 p.m. (EST) Feb. 02, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted airstrikes in Iraq and Syria against Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force and affiliated militia groups. U.S. military forces struck more than 85 targets, with numerous aircraft to include long-range bombers flown from United States.

The airstrikes employed more than 125 precision munitions. The facilities that were struck included command and control operations centers, intelligence centers, rockets, and missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicle storages, and logistics and munition supply chain facilities of militia groups and their IRGC sponsors who facilitated attacks against U.S. and Coalition forces.

The Biden administration is promising this is not the end of it, and the campaign could last for days or more.

Update(1640ET): The Biden administration has begun its much anticipated retaliatory strikes: 

FIRST US MILITARY RETALIATORY STRIKES UNDERWAY IN SYRIA: ABC

Regional analyst Kevork Almassian comments as this initial wave of attacks begins: “The US air force is bombing Eastern Syria near al-Mayadeen. Syria is a sovereign country which has not attacked the United States. A clear violation of international law.” US B1 bombers have been involved, according to officials. Initial unconfirmed footage from the region:

The Department of Defense has since suggested the initial eastern Syria strikes which were first reported might be the work of a partner air force, possibly Israel(?). There are a number of reports suggesting Israel is participating as a partner force. Additionally:

• Initial report of a US attack against targets in the Deir ez-Zor area on the Syria-Iraq border.
• US Official confirms strikes occurring in Iraq and Syria. “8 targets is just first of many courses” so far
• Reuters, citing American officials: “The strikes targeted facilities in Iraq and Syria linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and groups that it supports.”
• Start time was about 4 p.m. Eastern Time.

The administration appears to have waited until market close on Friday to start bombing.

Significant casualties are being reported, and will likely trickle out through the evening.

French container shipping giant CMA CGM has announced suspension of all its Red Sea transit due to security risks, Bloomberg has reported Friday, adding to a growing list of major firms now deeming the area too unsafe. 

The Bloomberg note additionally confirms that “CMA CGM will keep operating in the northern Red Sea but will not send its fleets through the southern part that is unavoidable for any vessel seeking to use Egypt’s Suez Canal to go between Europe and Asia.” With every addition of a shipping major, there’s yet further confirmation that the US-led ‘Operation Prosperity Guardian’ is failing. 

“Hundreds of container ships and large numbers of oil tankers and commodity carriers have elected to avoid the area altogether,” Bloomberg underscores.

Until this week, CMA CGM had continued sending some vessels through the vital transit passage despite the almost daily Houthi missile and drone attacks, but which have been supported by French navy escort. But at this point it appears even the large Western warship presence isn’t enough.

This week, the US Navy saw its closest call yet when a Houthi-launched cruise missile came within a mere mile of the destroyer USS Gravely.

Details have only just emerged late in the week based on the accounts of several US defense officials. Presumably other longer range anti-air defenses failed as the missile was inbound close the ship. CNN describes:

In the past, these missiles have been intercepted by US destroyers in the area at a range of eight miles or more, the officials said. But the USS Gravely had to use its Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) for the first time since the US began intercepting the Houthi missiles late last year, which ultimately succeeded in downing the missile, officials said.

The CIWS, an automated machine gun designed for close-range intercepts, is one of the final defensive lines the ship has to shoot down an incoming missile when other layers of defense have failed to intercept it.

So this “last line of defense” which utilizes a 20 mm radar-guided canon had to be activated. The mounted weapon is a General Dynamics and Raytheon-produced ship defense system which engages closely inbound targets…

Fox News’ Pentagon correspondent Lucas Tomlinson has said this week marks the “first time in history CIWS (‘sea-wiz’) has been used in combat from a warship to destroy an incoming cruise missile seconds away from impact.

What has been clear based on other recent incidents is that Houthi drones and missiles are in some instances slipping through the Western navel coalitions ‘defense umbrella’.

We detailed a week ago how the US Navy essentially “lost a battle at sea” given that a missile landed in the water very close to a commercial vessel which was being escorted by no less than three US warships. During that time two American merchantmen – the Maersk Detroit and the Maersk Chesapeake – had been attempting to run the Bab al-Mandeb from south to north while being covered by the USS Gravely. But as with this fresh incident of the Gravely’s CIWS system having to engage at close range, one missile apparently slipped through in that Jan.17 encounter.

Bankruptcy is a developing twenty-first century theme in America. We see bankruptcy in federal government policy and spending, many corporate boardroom decisions, nonprofit and religious groups’ overspending and arrogance, individuals, some United States cities and counties, and the territory of Puerto Rico. The federal bankruptcy law consisting of Chapters 7, 9, 11, and 13 allow bankruptcy filings for local governments, individuals, nonprofit groups, and for-profit businesses, but it does not allow bankruptcy filings for states and the federal government.

A few states are facing the reality of defaulting on their issued bond debt obligation payments and loan payments to lenders. These states are seeing current and future tax revenues decreases, net population losses, fewer private businesses, increased progressive welfare spending, and long-term underfunded public pension systems. US states are not allowed by federal law to print money to finance spending.

States declaring bankruptcy are not without precedent. The Panic of 1837 lead to several states defaulting on canal and railway debt payments in 1841. Passage of the Fourteenth Amendment to the US Constitution under section 4 required some states to declare bankruptcy after the Civil War.

Arkansas defaulted on highway bond payments in 1933 in the fourth year of the Great Depression. Tax revenues plummeted. It ran out of cash and stopped payments on all its highway bonds. The state attempted to invoke its sovereign immunity and impose losses on bondholders against their will. The approach failed. This history, described in an October 2017 Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland report, may serve as a historical benchmark for future state bankruptcies and bond payment defaults. It appears to be the only state default after Reconstruction ended in 1877.

Standard and Poor’s (S&P) listed its bond ratings of all fifty states from 2004 to 2017. Coronavirus state spending since 2020 has made the bond ratings of some states more tenuous. No state has a junk bond rating, though Illinois is the lowest rated at BBB−, followed by New Jersey at A−. S&P bond ratings go from AAA being the highest to D the lowest. S&P analysts add a plus or minus sign to the bond rating letter grade. A junk bond rating is the low probability of that state reliably meeting future bond payments, and it must sell the bond at a higher interest rate in order to attract an investor.

Illinois and New Jersey are examples of a future state bankruptcy or default on a future bond debt obligation payment. California budget deficits under Governor Gavin Newsom are proliferating as part of the spending trend. Financial press coverage of these states’ financial problems is available. New York, Connecticut, Michigan, and other states are heading to future defaults and possible bankruptcy unless budget and policy reform is enacted.

This article cannot predict how a state’s future bond debt default would play out. Payment default negotiations between that state’s revenue officials and bondholders could take place without federal bureaucrat oversight given bankruptcy silence in federal law. The bondholders and lenders will take a loss and place substantive requirements on that state to cut spending and reform its laws and policies as part of the default settlement.

The undisciplined state spending spree will be addressed through payment default or bankruptcy resulting from inescapable economic realities. This bottoming out could begin the healing process for that state’s citizens through realistic laws, policies, budgets, and tax revenue realities. This is uncharted territory, and we should not be surprised by past poor state political and budgeting choices.

One irony is that twelve US states have bond ratings from three private bond rating agencies higher than the federal government as of August 2023. Many of these states have balanced budget laws that prohibit deficit spending, and some states limit annual spending increases from a set of requirements. ‘These, Chinese folks who are overwhelmingly male, military age. It is not a friendly migration,’ warns Weinstein.

The latest edition of The Tucker Carlson Encounter on ? featured author and former professor of evolutionary biology Bret Weinstein warning America that hordes of hostile men are invading America.

Specifically, Weinstein touched on the topic of Chinese nationals traveling through an area in Panama called the Darien Gap, a story Infowars has been at the forefront of reporting.

The guest told Tucker he believes China is sending sleeper cells into the U.S. by having them blend in with the millions of illegal immigrants flooding the country under Joe Biden’s watch.

“You see, the hallmark of the international community,” Weinstein said. “You see NGO emblems all over the place, proudly American flags. They’ve paid for the water system, the toilets that are there. The United States government is facilitating this economic migration. And it’s unmistakable, as is an organization called the IOM, which is the International Organization for Migration. It’s a branch of the UN.”

One migration camp in Panama is reportedly filled with only people from China, as the popular author told Carlson, “These, Chinese folks who are overwhelmingly male, military age… It is not a friendly migration… This felt like people who did not want to share information, because it would be a mistake to do so.”

Nearly one year ago, investigative journalist Michael Yon joined The Alex Jones Show live from the Darien Gap to alert Americans about the Chinese agenda to invade the U.S. via the southern border.

Yon reported from outside a hotel holding Chinese citizens traveling through South America and Mexico up to the United States.

Around the same time, Muckraker journalists captured footage of hundreds of Chinese people in Panama traveling to America.

In March 2023, Border Patrol was caught releasing Chinese illegal aliens into the custody of NGOs in Texas.

More Chinese men were filmed illegally entering California in December 2023.

Muckraker later filmed another hotel in South America being used to stage the Chinese masses heading to the U.S.

“All of the signs posted around the hotel come with a Chinese translation, indicating that this is a common meeting place for people of Chinese origin. There are so many Chinese nationals headed to the US, that they have established dedicated hubs along their migration route such as this hotel. From this point, the Chinese will either cross the Darién Gap and trek up to the United States or will fly directly into Mexico if they have a visa,” a post accompanying the video report states.

Last month, Muckraker published an entire documentary looking into the illegal immigration trail from Ecuador to America.

Last week, ten retired FBI directors and experts in counter intelligence sent a letter to Congress warning the influx of foreign nationals has put America in danger from sleeper cells.

“Military age men from across the globe, many from countries or regions not friendly to the United States, are landing in waves on our soil by the thousands – not by splashing ashore from a ship or parachuting from a plane bur rather by foot across a border that has been accurately advertised around the world as largely unprotected with ready access granted,” the whistleblowers wrote.

Allowing the nation to be invaded by military-aged men from across the world could be considered treasonous, but actually helping to facilitate the illegal migration pipeline certainly fits the definition.
