Rand Paul Vows to Slow Approval of Ukraine Aid
US Senator Rand Paul has warned that passage of an emergency funding bill that includes $60 billion for Ukraine aid won’t be a quick and smooth process because he won’t allow his colleagues to avoid a serious debate about prioritizing Kiev’s security over America’s border crisis.
“I think we should stay here as long as it takes,” the Kentucky Republican told CNN on Friday. “If it takes a week or a month, I’ll force them to stay here to discuss why they think the border of Ukraine is more important than the US border.”
Paul’s comments came one day after the aid bill moved a key step toward approval in the Senate by clearing a cloture vote, meaning it can no longer be stalled through a filibuster. However, Paul and other opponents can slow the legislation’s advance toward a final vote by introducing amendments and demanding that they be debated. The bill can only be sped to a vote without further debate if all 100 senators agree to a fast-track procedure.
Paul won’t likely let that happen. He has spoken out against prolonging Ukraine’s conflict with Russia and has been a staunch critic of Washington’s foreign military forays. The libertarian senator was one of 19 Republican lawmakers who called last April for a halt to “unrestrained” US aid to Ukraine and urged President Joe Biden to instead push for a diplomatic solution to end the fighting.
The latest aid bill includes $95 billion in emergency spending, including $60 billion for Ukraine, $14 billion to fund Israel’s war against Hamas, and nearly $5 billion to help deter Chinese “aggression” against Taiwan and other Indo-Pacific partners. If it passes the Senate, it will require approval from the Republican-controlled House of Representatives before going to Biden for final approval.
Seventeen Republicans joined with Senate Democrats in supporting the cloture vote on Thursday. The bill surprisingly gained Republican support after border-security measures were stripped out. GOP negotiators had previously demanded a crackdown on illegal immigration to help overcome opposition to further funding of Ukraine’s conflict with Russia.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has suggested that he may prevent lawmakers from leaving Washington for a two-week recess that was scheduled to begin this weekend, saying members will “keep working on this bill until the job is done.”
The Biden administration confirmed last month that it had run out of funding for Kiev after burning through $113 billion in previously approved aid packages. Paul noted earlier this week that in addition to allotting an additional $60 billion in military funding, the latest bill includes $7.85 billion for the “lavish salaries of Ukrainian bureaucrats.”

EU Bends Knee to Farmers: Drops Key Provisions In 2040 Climate Proposal
The European Commission has bent the knee to protesting farmers – and is dropping key passages in a proposal for a new 2040 goal aimed at cutting greenhouse gas pollution.
According to the EU exeuctive’s plan, “all sectors” need to now contribute to the effort – but the previously mandated 30% cut to agricultural production between by 2040 is gone. The revised draft has also excluded a mandate for citizens to make lifestyle changes – such as eating less meat, and a push to end fossil fuel subsidies, Politico reports.
Farmers’ protests have broken out in many countries across Europe in recent weeks, with the industry expressing discontent over the EU’s green policies. Some of the largest demonstrations have been in Germany, prompted by a cut to diesel subsidies. Brussels has faced calls from industry groups and some political parties to lay out a 2040 climate pathway that doesn’t ignite further anger.
The EU’s plan is set to be presented on Tuesday and will recommend a 90 percent cut in total EU emissions by 2040 from 1990 levels — a suggestion in line with scientific advice.
The updated version of the plan, which is still subject to change, framed agriculture in a more positive light compared to earlier drafts. The role the sector plays in the EU’s “food sovereignty” was also emphasized.
“We need to make sure we have a balanced approach,” said European Commission Wopke Hoekstra, who unveiled the revised proposal. “The vast majority of our citizens sees the effects of climate change, does want protection, but is also worried about what that implies for their livelihood.”
Meanwhile, the BBC reports that the EU has also scrapped plans to cut pesticide use in half across the EU – which was to take effect by 2030 as part of the so-called “Green Deal.”
The changes were spearheaded by the powerful center-right European People’s Party (EPP), the political family of top EU executive Ursula Von der Leyen, and constitutes the EU Parliament’s largest group.
“Our farmers deserve to be listened to,” said Von der Leyen in a Tuesday meeting of Parliament. “I know that they are worried about the future of agriculture and their future as farmers.”
EPP environmental spokesman Peter Liese said on Monday that the 2040 target for a 90% cut over 1990 levels was conditional on greater emphasis being placed on “positive opportunities” for farmers, and less on “new instruments that rather see the farmers as an enemy of climate policy.”
That said, one EU official told Politico that reality is hard to escape – which is that the agricultural sector ‘could and should’ contribute to the EU’s climate goals.
“Despite all the semantics in the [Commission], there is an unequivocal Impact Assessment making a very compelling (business) case for an ambitious headline target and all sub-targets for sectors,” said the official.

Doctors interviewed by the New York Post are calling on puppet President Joe Biden to take a mental competency test to prove he’s fit to serve as Commander-in-Chief following a special council’s grave statements on his declining mental faculties.
After a scathing report released Thursday by Special Council Robert Hur mentioned Biden was unable to recall the years he served as vice president or the date of his son’s death, doctors told the Post these were troubling health indicators.
“Something isn’t right, and even if it’s minor, it must be explained to the public,” said Bronx physician Dr. Stuart Fischer, adding, “The horse is out of the barn. Not only does [Biden] have an infirmity of some degree, but he has delayed producing objective evidence.”
Dr. Fischer added “no one is buying” Biden’s claims that his “memory is fine,” referring to the 81-year-old presidential usurper’s statement Thursday night during an impromptu press conference.
Following Thursday’s report, Dr. Fischer said Biden shows “signs of symptoms” which could be indicative of “infectious disease or fatigue,” going on to recommend Biden keep a “mild schedule…because the more he pushes himself, the more difficult it is for an 81-year-old body to respond.”
Former Trump White House physician and US Congressman Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) also told the Post Biden could be suffering from dementia, Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s, and called on him to take an array of cognitive tests if he’s selected as the Democrat nominee.
“He doesn’t need a [cognitive] screening test,” Jackson told the Post. “He needs an actual cognitive battery of tests, objectively done, put on paper, and briefed to the American people by his physician.”
Jackson continued: “I’m not making a diagnosis. And I’m not saying the guy has Alzheimer’s or multi-infarct dementia or Parkinson’s or anything else… This guy has cognitive issues related to his age: He shuffles when he walks, he slurs his speech, he forgets where he’s at, what he’s doing, he can’t remember names, he can’t remember dates — that is not someone that should be in control of the nuclear codes in this country and controlling our fate overseas.”
The former Trump physician, who once noted the 45th president and current GOP presidential frontrunner was in “excellent” health, reiterated his belief Biden was mentally incapable of running the country.
“I’ve been saying since he was candidate Joe Biden: This man does not have the cognitive wherewithal or ability to be our head of state,” Jackson stated.
“If you’re too incompetent and too cognitively impaired because of your age to defend yourself from these charges — if he’s charged — then it absolutely, positively goes without saying you should not be the commander-in-chief,” Jackson added.
Likewise, neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson, who served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under Trump, described long having concerns over Biden’s apparent cognitive decline.
“As someone who knows a thing or two about the human brain, Joe Biden’s mental decline has been obvious for several years,” Dr. Carson told the Post. “Yesterday’s report, last night’s press conference, and the current state of the union further proves that point. Our southern border is under siege, there are two major global conflicts taking place, and our judicial system has become a weaponized arm of the president’s campaign. Americans should be asking, who is running the country?”
The Post added, “Carson has previously stated he believes Biden has signs of dementia, given the president’s aggressive demeanor, apparent confusion and issues with his speech.”
Additionally, Dr. Arthur Oliva, a self-described “concerned citizen and Democrat,” noted on X she was “personally concerned about” Hur’s report.
In the report released Thursday announcing the results of Special Council Hur’s investigation of Biden for illegally keeping classified documents at his Delaware home, Hur wrote Biden’s memory had “severe limitations” and characterized him as “an elderly man with a poor memory.”
Biden addressed the claims during a random presser Thursday evening, but only made matters worse when he confused Egypt with Mexico.

Illegal Alien DoorDash Driver Charged With Killing Woman, 3-Year-Old Daughter in High-Speed Crash – Police
An illegal alien DoorDash driver has been charged in a high-speed car crash that killed a female passenger and her 3-year-old daughter in Pennsylvania last month, authorities say.
The horrifying incident unfolded just after 1 a.m. on January 13 in Upper Merion, a township near Philadelphia, according to a press release issued on Wednesday by Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele.
Local authorities arrived at the scene of a single-vehicle accident where they found the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Brayan Alejandro Gonzalez-Paez, tending to an unresponsive toddler whose mother was trapped inside a badly damaged 2007 Toyota Yaris.
Anjelica Guadalupe Amaya Briceno, 20, was extricated from the Yaris and pronounced dead at the scene.
Her 3-year-old daughter was rushed to a local children’s hospital, where she was also pronounced deceased.

Investigators determined Gonzalez-Paez was likely traveling between 70 and 80 mph in a 35 mph zone in heavy rain when he lost control at a bend in the road and ultimately slammed into a tree.
No car seat was found inside the vehicle, and all seatbelts had apparently been connected behind the passengers in order to disarm safety warning alerts.
The vehicle was not register to Gonzalez-Paez, who claimed he had obtained it via private sale but had not filed transfer paperwork.
The car was also not insured and Gonzalez-Paez was not in possession of a valid driver’s license, despite telling officers he had a license issued in Venezuela, which was not located on his person or in the vehicle.
Gonzalez-Paez reportedly told officers he was following directions on a DoorDash app when another car ‘came out of nowhere’ and passed him, causing him to apply his brakes and lose control in the slick conditions.

“Det. Michael Henricks, of the Montgomery County Detective Bureau and assigned as a Task Force Officer (TFO) with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) checked the Homeland Security Investigations databases for information on Gonzalez Paez,” states a criminal complaint against the suspect.
“Det. Henricks learned that Gonzalez Paez entered the United States illegally from Mexico on May 5, 2023 and was appended by HSI agents. Gonzalez Paez is currently on HSI parole awaiting a deportation hearing.”
An investigation and legal proceedings are ongoing.
