Poland Ready to Host American Nuclear Weapons
Poland is open to hosting US nuclear weapons amid the stand-off with Russia over Ukraine, President Andrzej Duda has said.
In an interview with the Polish daily Fakt on Monday, the leader acknowledged that the issue of bringing US nukes to his country, much closer to Russian territory, “has been a topic of Polish-American talks for some time.” The US currently has nuclear weapons stationed in five fellow NATO members: Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Türkiye.
“I have already talked about this several times,” Duda continued. “I must admit that when asked about it, I declared our readiness.”
He argued that the reason for such a stance is that “Russia is increasingly militarizing” its exclave of Kaliningrad bordering Poland and Lithuania, adding that Moscow has also deployed its nuclear weapons in Belarus.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the decision to place tactical nuclear weapons in the neighboring state, which is also Moscow’s key ally, last year. At the time, he argued that the move had been triggered by Britain’s decision to supply Ukraine with depleted uranium ammunition. The president also pointed out that the US has kept nukes in Europe for decades.
Duda further explained that “if our allies decide to deploy nuclear weapons as part of nuclear sharing also on our territory to strengthen the security of NATO’s eastern flank, we are ready for it.”
He recalled that as a NATO member, Poland has certain obligations, and “in this respect, we simply implement a common policy.”
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in January that Moscow views the nuclear assets of the US, UK and France as a “single nuclear arsenal aimed at the Russian Federation,” since NATO had declared it the “main threat.”He added that Russia takes this reality into account in its nuclear policy.
Moscow has repeatedly said that a nuclear war must never be fought, and that it has never threatened to use its atomic arsenal.

Newsom Dismisses Speculation about Presidential Bid and Concerns about Biden’s “Fitness”, Blasts Trump
In an interview with MSNBC’s Jen Psaki yesterday, California Governor Gavin Newsom dismissed speculation that he is “waiting in the wings” to run for president this year, and gave his full support to President Joe Biden—but not without making a dig at Donald Trump.
“I know it drives you crazy that people still speculate that you’re waiting in the wings to run for president,” Psaki said.
“I know it’s not going to happen, you know it’s not going to happen, but what do you think is fuelling that speculation?
“I don’t know,” Newsom replied.
“I don’t think so much anymore, and I’m so proud of the president and the incredible job he did didn’t surprise me at all, and I know it didn’t surprise you. I really believe that.”
“We can get into debates around fitness. Look, I’d rather have 80 years behind me than those 88 federal criminal counts in front of me. And so I feel very good about Joe Biden’s prospects.”
The rest of the nine-minute interview focused largely on the issue of women’s rights, and in particular women’s right to abortion.
Newsom said the GOP is “trying to roll back women’s rights.”
On Trump’s claims he wouldn’t sign an abortion ban, Newsom branded Trump “a liar.”
“He’ll say whatever he needs to say on any day of the week. Give me a break. Look, he’s created these conditions, he’s celebrated those conditions. He’s celebrated the fact that he was responsible for overturning Roe. He said that he would criminalize women. He’s on tape saying these things.”
“Don’t think for a second that if the great Lindsay Graham sends him a bill and it somehow gets through Congress that he doesn’t sign that,” he added. “You know he will.”

Rep. Gonzales Calls Fellow GOPers “Real Scumbags” in Rant Defending Speaker Johnson
During an appearance on Sunday night’s CNN State of the Union, Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) launched into a vitriolic outburst against fellow members of the GOP, calling them “real scumbags.” The outburst was so vitriolic, host Dana Bash was left visibly shocked, and forced to step in to correct claims made by the Representative for Texas.
“It’s my absolute honor to be in Congress, but I serve with some real scumbags,” Gonzales said.
“Matt Gaetz, he paid minors to have sex with him at drug parties. Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) endorsed my opponent [Brandon Herrera], a known neo-Nazi. These people used to walk around in white hoods at night. Now they’re walking around with white hoods in the daytime.”
“Wow, OK,” was Bash’s response. She then reminded viewers that no charges were pursued by federal authorities against Gaetz.

The rant was prompted by the controversy about the new Ukraine bill, which passed on Saturday, and Speaker Johnson’s role in its passing. Gonzales said he was “tired” and that he believes debate about the Speaker is preventing Republicans from governing effectively. He believes Mike Johnson “is going to be just fine.”
Rep. Gonzales is not known for such forceful speech. The Daily Beast describes him as a “steadfast repeater of Republican talking points since he joined Congress in 2021.”
Matt Gaetz was quick to respond on Twitter, accusing “occasionally-Republican” Gonzales of “laundering lies on CNN” because he’s “down in the polls” against his opponent in the Republican primary, Brandon Herrera. Gaetz urged voters to “Vote in the May 28 runoff for Brandon Herrera!”
Herrera himself went even further, labelling Gonzales a “failure of a congressman.”
“This is the death spiral ladies and gentlemen. He has to cry to his liberal friends about me, because Republicans won’t listen any more.”

Senior Obama Aide Charged with Child Sex Offences in British Court
One of Barack Obama’s senior policy advisors has appeared in a British court to face child-sex charges. Rahamim “Ramy” Shy, 46, is accused of arranging the commission of a child-sex offence and possessing multiple indecent images of children.
Rahamim, an American citizen, was arrested by Bedfordshire Police at the end of February. He was charged the next day. So far, he has not been asked to enter a plea for any of the charges, and has been remanded in custody in advance of a further hearing in June. The trial is set for August.

Shy worked under the Obama Administration and helped on the U.S.’s strategy to combat terrorists from Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

Shy helped coordinate the US government’s terrorism strategy, including its response to Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. He served under President Barack Obama and secretary of state Hillary Clinton. He was deployed briefly to Afghanistan and provided guidance for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force, as well as working within the Treasury Department to target sources of terrorist funding.
Since leaving the White House, Shy moved into the corporate world. Most recently, he was working at Citi Bank, as Deputy Global Head of Enterprise Issue Management. Representatives of Citi told Mail Online that Shy no longer works for them. His LinkedIn page appears to have been removed.

“Lightweights and Fakes”: Trump Blasts Supposed Insiders Who “Have Virtually No Knowledge of Me”
Donald Trump gave powerful vent to his feelings about men like Miles Taylor in a post on his social-media platform Truth Social last night. Kelly, who worked in Trump’s Department of Homeland Security, published an anonymous missive in 2018 for the New York Times claiming to be “part of the resistance inside the Trump administration.” He has since published two books warning about Trump.
“So many lightweights and fakes go on MSNBC & CNN, along with other ratings challenged networks and platforms, purporting to know me as though they were a long lost relative, only to have virtually no knowledge of me, or anything about me,” the former president posted.
“A weak and pathetic RINO named Miles Taylor, who worked with one of the dumber Generals around, John Kelly, speaks as though he has intimate knowledge of everything Trump. Other than seeing him on TV, I have no idea, from the Administration days, who the hell he is. I assume a con man because he gets paid for talking about a subject he knows nothing about, ME. But that doesn’t matter to NBC, to me one of the worst news organizations in the world.
“There are many other of these phonies as well, and I’ll let you all know who they are as soon as I get a chance. TRUTH!”
Taylor has resurfaced in recent weeks to promote a new paperback edition of his second book Blowback, which first came out last year. In the book, Taylor warns that a second Trump administration will be far more competent and aggressive than the first.
A week ago, Taylor gave an interview to Salon Magazine and claimed that all of the predictions he made in the book are coming true.
“I wish I had been wrong, but Donald Trump has borne out my predictions. Since the publication of Blowback, he has let slip his true intentions again and again,” Taylor said.
He went on to list every instance of his predictions being right.
“Trump admitted he wanted to use the Justice Department against his enemies if re-elected, saying the ‘genie’ had already been let ‘out of the box.’ He admitted he would purge civil servants en masse, vowing ‘retribution’ to ‘destroy the deep state” by ‘firing all of the corrupt actors in our National Security and Intelligence apparatus.’ He admitted he would reinstate policies like the so-called travel ban to the United States that would be ‘even bigger than before.’ He hinted that he would seek to deploy the military on U.S. soil to enforce his edicts… He even admitted he would govern like a dictator, at least on ‘Day One.’
