Nearly a Third of US Adults Know Someone Who Has Died of a Drug Overdose
A new survey reveals that nearly a third of all US adults know someone who has died of a drug overdose.
The survey results underscore the tremendous scale of the US drug crisis.
Over 2,000 adults were interviewed for the survey, with 32% saying they’ve suffered the loss of somebody they knew to a fatal overdose. Extrapolated to the total US population, that’s 83 million people at a single remove from a drug-overdose death.
Nearly 19% of participants, or 49 million adults nationwide, said the person who died was a family member or close friend.
Unsurprisingly, poorer people were more likely to be affected, with 40% of people from households making less than $30,000 a year saying they’d lost someone to an overdose.
The crisis has not left the better-off untouched, however: 26% of Americans earning over $100,000 a year say they also knew someone who died as a result of drugs.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over a million people have died of drug overdoses in the US since the 1990s. More than 100,000 people die each year of drug overdoses. The problem has become significantly worse with the rise of prescription opioids such as oxycontin and black-market opioids such as fentanyl.

Solar Farm Expansion Plans in UK Under Fire as Farmers Forced off Their Land
Some UK farmers are being pushed off of their land as the misguided quest for more solar power presses forward in Britain.
This is according to the former head of the UK’s farming union, who called attention to the many drawbacks of large-scale solar farms in the country.
Minette Batters, who once served as the National Farmers’ Union president, recounted “horrific examples” of tenant farmers being kicked off their land so landowners can rake in more money via solar power initiatives. She warned that investors, including those from overseas and private equity firms, are buying up a significant proportion of Britain’s rural landscape.
Batters is calling on the country’s next government to draw up a new land strategy that protects traditional farming and acknowledges its economic value for the UK. The influx of new solar farms is coming at a time when arable and dairy farming are facing a bleak future.
“We are a country up for sale. We are selling off land to people who don’t pay their taxes here. It does have to change,” she said.
Although she is unhappy with the way solar farms are taking over traditional farmland, she said she did have some sympathy for farmers who have been cashing in on these projects because it does provide them with a guaranteed income.
She said: “You can understand at the moment, from a farmer’s perspective… £1,200 a hectare (per year), index-linked, locked in for 20 years, what’s not to like? For everybody else, there’s a huge amount not to like. This is the trouble with a solar farm. There will be one beneficiary.”
Solar farms are taking over the UK
There are already 500 solar farms in the UK, with the biggest spanning 250 acres in Flintshire, North Wales. A new one that is currently being planned for three sites in Oxfordshire will cover nearly four square miles, or 2,471 acres, while a 2500-acre solar farm has been proposed near the Cambridgeshire-Suffolk border.
Campaigners fighting a “titanic” Wiltshire County solar farm recently made some inroads by convincing local councilors to ask the government to ensure solar farms are distributed in a more even manner throughout the UK.
Developers are seeking to build solar panels across 2,000 acres of farmland in Wiltshire to power around 115,000 homes. However, many area residents are strongly opposed to the plan, and a petition attracted signatures from 17,000 objectors. Many are troubled by the fact that the county already has many more solar farms than other parts of the UK.
Former Planning Inspectorate CEO Sir Michael Pitt said: “We believe the development is the most damaging assault on the county’s landscape in more than a lifetime. To call it a farm is an aberration. It is a vast industrial complex with battery storage, transformers and ugly solar cells some 4.5 metres high.”
Some farmers being forced to give up their land for solar farms
One particularly disturbing effect of solar initiatives is the fact that farmers who lease their land from larger land owners are sometimes being forced to abandon their farms to make way for a solar farm.
Batters believes that one good solution would be for governments to promote installing solar panels on rooftops instead of on land.
“The Conservatives know how divisive this (solar) is. You saw Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss saying we’re going to stop putting solar on land and put it on rooftops.
“Farmers ought to be able to provide (electricity from) solar and wind turbines – solar on rooftops. I really hope Labour (implements this)… with their plans for GB Energy,” she added.

BREAKING: Mexico Set for First Female President
Exit polls clearly suggest Mexico will elect Claudia Sheinbaum as its next president.
At least five exit polls show Sheinbaum is on course for a landslide victory after Sunday’s election. Polling by Parametria forecasts she will win 56% of the vote, with her main rival, Xochitl Galvez, winning 30% of the vote.
With a total of 5% of the votes counted a few hours ago, Sheinbaum had 59% of the vote, against Galvez’s 29%.
Sheinbaum, a climate scientist and former mayor of Mexico City, will continue the agenda of her political mentor, outgoing president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, whose policies have focused on improving the lot of Mexico’s poor.
Despite the optimism surrounding her election—international media have hailed her victory as a “major step for Mexico,” with its “macho culture” and Roman Catholicism, “which for years pushed more traditional values and roles for women”—Sheinbaum will have far from an easy ride as president.
The country faces economic problems, including a sizeable deficit and sluggish economic growth, and escalating violence.
Political violence marred the election, which was reckoned to be the country’s most violent. 38 candidates were murdered during the election, and at least two people were killed during polling on Sunday.
Over 185,000 people have been murdered since Andrés Manuel López Obrador assumed office in 2018. Many believe he has made the cartel problem significantly worse rather than better.
Relations with the US, especially with regard to migration and drug trafficking, will also loom large on Sheinbaum’s agenda as president. Donald Trump has already said he would impose 100% tariffs on Chinese cars made in Mexico and deploy special forces to fight the cartels.
As a climate scientist, Sheinbaum has also vowed to drive her country’s energy mix away from reliance on fossil fuels.

Backlash After Idaho Bar Announces “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month”
A bar owner in Idaho says he is experiencing major retaliation after announcing “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month” at his establishment.
The Old State Saloon (OSS) in Eagle, ID, is hosting special events and offering discounts for heterosexual couples and adults during the month of June in apparent response to the onslaught of ‘LGBT Pride Month’ propaganda being pushed across the globe.
“June will be OSS’s inaugural Heterosexual Awesomeness Month! Come join us all month to celebrate heterosexuals, for without them, none of us would be here! Each Monday will be Hetero Male Monday and any heterosexual male dressed like a heterosexual male will receive a free draft beer. Each Wednesday is Heterosexual couples day and each heterosexual couple will receive 15% off their bill,” OSS staff wrote on Facebook on May 29.
OSS has received strong support for the promotion, however, opponents have also reportedly mounted a “significant backlash.”
In a post on GiveSendGo, bar management describes “theft of our property, vendors refusing to fulfill our orders for ingredients, wedding catering cancelation, libel, slander – even the owner being falsely accused of being a sex offender!”
Following a flood of recent reviews on Facebook, the saloon’s average rating is now just 2.1 out of 5.
However, the OSS rating on Google sits at 4.6 stars out of 5 with the vast majority of reviews coming long before the current controversy.
OSS owner Mark Fitzpatrick is also a real estate broker whose Zillow profile describes him as a “Christian, conservative, Constitution supporter, retired police officer, and family man.”
Fitzpatrick says he launched the GiveSendGo campaign in order to “fund the construction of a physical location specifically for traditional and faith-based events, preserving Idaho’s amazing and conservative culture.”
“If the world wants to support ‘Heterosexual Awesomeness Month’ by crowdfunding an even larger Hetero HQ, lets do it!” he said.
OSS is also offering BOGO coffee for anyone carrying a holstered firearm during the month of June.

Fauci Confesses He ‘Made Up’ Covid Rules Including 6 Feet Social Distancing & Masking Kids
Dr. Anthony Fauci confessed in bombshell congressional testimony that he “made up” the government’s COVID rules, including the 6-foot social distancing measure and masking of children.
In January testimony released by the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic last week, Fauci admitted the 6 foot social distancing rule “sort of just appeared” and that he did not recall how it came about.
“You know, I don’t recall. It sort of just appeared,” Fauci said, according to committee transcripts.
Additionally, Fauci admitted he didn’t remember reading anything to support that masking kids would prevent COVID.
“Do you recall reviewing any studies or data supporting masking for children?” he was asked.
“I might have,” Fauci responded before adding, “but I don’t recall specifically that I did.”
“Have you followed any of those studies?” he was asked.
“No,” he replied. “But I believe that there are a lot of conflicting studies too, that there are those that say, yes, there is an impact, and there are those that say there’s not.”
“I still think that’s up in the air,” he added about whether masking kids was a provable way to prevent transmission.
A National Institutes of Health (NIH) study concluded the impact of mask use on students’ literacy and learning was “very negative.”
Another NIH study found impacts from social distancing caused “depression, generalized anxiety, acute stress, and intrusive thoughts.”
Fauci is set to testify before Congress on Monday for the first time since stepping down as director of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), where he’s expected to answer for misleading Congress about the NIH’s involvement in gain-of-function research, the origins of COVID, and subsequently covering up that risky research happening in Wuhan, China.
“Our investigation has confirmed that [Fauci] did indeed lie, he committed a felony, he said that the NIH did not fund gain-of-function research, dangerous research in China. We now know that to be untrue. We know he committed a felony,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo on Sunday.
I joined @MariaBartiromo on @SundayFutures to discuss Fauci’s upcoming hearing. Fauci lied. He committed a felony. It’s clear there was a massive cover-up from the beginning. pic.twitter.com/KTcWDesqF8
— Rand Paul (@RandPaul) June 2, 2024
“But what we’ve discovered now is that there was a massive coverup from the very beginning. There was a behind-the-scenes effort to change the opinion of people, many of the Fauci colleagues all believe that the virus did come from the lab.”
“Their opinions were all changed, but then all evidence was then covered up,” Sen. Paul continued. “They began using burner phones. They began using couriers. They said, ‘we can’t do things electronically. I can take things by hand to his house. It sounds more like the CIA than the NIH.”
NIH advisor Dr. David Morens testified before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic last week to using a private email account and “backchannels” to help Fauci and the EcoHealth Alliance dodge Freedom of Information Act requests.
And earlier this month, NIH principal deputy director Lawrence Tabak admitted to Congress that taxpayers funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China in the months and years before the COVID-19 plandemic.
