Cross-Party Support in Bulgaria for Banning LGBTQIAAP2S+ Propaganda
The Bulgarian parliament has modified the country’s education law, banning the promotion of LGBT propaganda in schools.
The amendment to the law passed by a large majority, with 159 votes in favour, 22 against and 12 abstentions—meaning the changes had a strong cross-party backing.
The law now bans the “propaganda, promotion or incitement in any way, directly or indirectly, in the education system of ideas and views related to non-traditional sexual orientation and/or gender identity other than the biological one.”
Many of the lawmakers cited foreign-authored textbooks on sexual education for children as the instigators for the amendment of the education law.
Right-wing nationalist party Revival said that promoting socio-cultural models of non-traditional sexual orientation near schools does not align with Bulgarian tradition. Petar Nikolov of the centre-right GERB party said he rejects propaganda that imposes alternative sexual orientation on children, and he also highlighted Bulgaria’s “Christian essence.”
Yordan Tsonev from the liberal-centrist DPS party—which represents the interests of ethnic minority Turks—emphasised the importance of children’s upbringing according to binary gender principles. Former Socialist Party leader Kornelia Ninova said gender ideology was “creeping into and taking over Bulgarian schools.”
The main Europhile party, PP–DB, which has been accused by its opponents of serving the interests of the U.S. Democrat administration, rejected the amendment. MP Elisaveta Belobradova argued that the law represents “cheap populism” rather than addressing any real issues within the educational system.
Pro-LGBT protesters took to the streets on Wednesday, complaining that the law “breaches basic human rights,” and calling the move by the parliament a “witch hunt” against LGBT people.
The modification of the law received strong backing from across the political spectrum despite the political turmoil that has engulfed Bulgaria for the past few years. The Balkan EU member state is facing its seventh parliamentary election in three-and-a-half years in October, as left-wing and conservative forces consecutively fail to gain majorities in parliament. When they have succeeded in forming coalition governments, they have quickly fallen apart.
Bulgaria’s education law amendment resembles another EU country’s, Hungary’s “Child Protection Act” which was adopted three years ago, and prohibits or heavily restricts the promotion of homosexuality and gender transition in schools and media.
Bulgaria does not recognise same-sex marriage, and also refuses to ratify the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women, because it promotes gender ideology—the reason why other Central European states, such as Hungary and Slovakia have also not ratified it.

Germany Considers Reform to Publishing Nationalities of Criminals Amid Spike in Migrant Crime
Germany’s liberal Free Democratic Party (FDP), the smallest party in the governing coalition, is proposing that law enforcement authorities should be obliged to disclose the nationality of suspected criminals throughout the country.
The initiative has been endorsed by the opposition CDU/CSU, while the anti-immigration Alternative for Germany (AfD), although supportive of it in theory, believes it does not go far enough.
According to the FDP, the initiative aims to ensure “transparency and credibility,” adding that in the wake of the 2015/2016 refugee crisis and the subsequent rise in foreign crime in Germany, there have been various questions regarding how to achieve this. For example, at which stage of the investigation should the nationality of suspects be formally declared, which cases may demand greater transparency, and what should be done when there is a greater risk that disclosure of the suspect’s citizenship will lead to general prejudice?
According to Die Welt newspaper, the FDP and the parliamentary group of the conservative CDU/CSU coalition are calling for a uniform approach by law enforcement authorities nationwide, including mandatory disclosure.
In an interview with the newspaper, FDP Secretary-General Bijan Djir-Sarai argued that this would increase public confidence in law enforcement agencies. According to him, people should have confidence that politicians “take the problem of foreign crime seriously.”
While the left-wing SPD, the largest party in the three-party governing coalition, has not yet taken a position on the initiative, the Green Party has rejected it, saying it would deprive authorities of the discretion they need to do their job successfully.
The AfD, which has been the most vocal in the fight against illegal immigration, has, on the other hand, “slammed” the FDP’s proposal, to the extent that the party believes that it is not enough to disclose nationality, but that the migration background of suspects, convicts and detainees should also be made public.
Trump Pledges to Cut Federal Funding for Schools Pushing Critical Race Theory and Trans ‘Insanity’
(LifeSiteNews) — Former President Donald Trump has pledged to “cut federal funding for any school pushing critical race theory” and “transgender insanity” in an executive order on his first day as president if elected in November.
Trump further vowed to cut federal funding to schools imposing any “other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content on our children” in a video statement directed to the parental rights group Moms for Liberty, shared to X on August 6.
Critical race theory, which teaches that racism is built into Western social institutions and that individuals are inherently racist or oppressive by virtue of their race, color or sex, has been increasingly taught in schools to students of all ages, including in teacher training programs. Critics rebuke the ideology for being deeply divisive and even promoting racism, to the point that the ostensibly “privileged” are themselves excluded from work opportunities, for example, on the basis of race and sex.
Schools have also been increasingly under fire for pushing pro-homosexual celebrations and content on inappropriately young children and for carrying pornographic books, which has prompted laws such as the Parental Rights in Education Act in Florida.
“Together we’re on a mission to take back our schools from the Marxists and Communists and the radical-left maniacs who are hellbent on indoctrinating our children,” Trump said in his video address.
“We will move education back to the states – we’re closing it up in Washington – and return everything back to the parents. It will be parental control,” he continued.
Trump also pledged to “eliminate all diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs across the entire federal government,” and to “direct the DOJ to pursue civil rights claims against any school or university that engages in racism rather than making decisions based on merit.”
Diversity training has “exploded” in the federal government since President Joe Biden took office in 2020, the Beacon noted, with all federal agencies now mandating a form of DEI training. DEI policies, an outgrowth of critical race theory, have long been widely denounced by conservatives and moderates not only as divisive but for undermining the competence and most basic functioning of public institutions and private corporations.
This crisis of competence has extended to universities, with internal data showing that more than half of the medical students at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) admitted since 2020 fail standardized tests for basic medical knowledge. Insiders have blamed the underperformance on affirmative action policies, with one member of the admissions committee sharing that the standards for minority groups deemed “underrepresented” are “as low as you could possibly imagine.”
In the video address, the former president declared that he would “strongly support universal school choice,” “keep men out of women’s sports,” and ask Congress to legislate a national ban on “child sexual mutilation.”
“Can you imagine you have to put that down as a platform? That you are going to stop child sexual mutilation? Who would think you would ever have to say a thing like that?”
“I’m also going to take aggressive action to reclaim our system of higher education. It’s a system right now of the Marxist left, and we’re not going to have it any longer. When I’m your President, these communists, fascists, and others will no longer be allowed to rule the lives of our children – no longer be allowed to take away the authority of loving parents,” he concluded.
Kamala Harris’ Running Mate Tim Walz is ‘Bernie Sanders in Hunting Gear’ Warns Former Minnesota Governor
Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, the last Republican to serve as governor of the North Star State, has criticized Vice President Kamala Harris’ selection of Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, asserting that it reflects a deep commitment to the Democratic Party’s “democrat-socialist agenda.”
Harris named Minnesota’s incumbent governor as her running mate on Tuesday, Aug. 6, following weeks of whirlwind speculation regarding who she would tap to be her vice president.
“As a governor, a coach, a teacher and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his,” said Harris in a statement announcing her selection.
Harris praised Walz for his supposed bipartisanship and willingness to collaborate with Republicans to secure infrastructure investments, mandating universal background checks for gun purchases, cutting taxes for working-class families, passing paid family and medical leave bills and making Minnesota the first state to enshrine into the state constitution protections to the right to abortion following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade.
Walz, 60, has used his term as governor to massively overhaul Minnesota and turn it into a progressive state – an overhaul that went on overdrive following his winning a second term in 2022 and the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party – the Minnesota branch of the Democrats – took full control of both houses of the state legislature. With Walz on the ticket, the Democrats may now use Minnesota as a template for their national plans.
Pawlenty describes Walz as a Midwest Bernie Sanders
Pawlenty, who served as governor from 2003 to 2011 and previously campaigned to be the Republican Party’s candidate for the 2012 election, shared his views regarding Walz with Fox 9.
Pawlenty described Walz as “philosophically and politically” aligned with Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, though he noted that Walz brings a distinct “style and geography” to the 2024 Democratic ticket.

“She has sort of the San Francisco, California, vibe. He’s going to have sort of the ‘Bernie Sanders in hunting gear’ vibe,” Pawlenty commented. “So, it’s the same product, just in different wrappers.”
While Walz’s record is celebrated by progressives, it has also provided ammunition for Republicans who view Harris and her running mate as too liberal.
Pawlenty suggested that the campaign of former President Donald Trump will easily be able to criticize Walz for his handling of the 2020 George Floyd riots, which massively rocked Minneapolis and led to a police station being burned to the ground.
He also pointed to Walz’s record of significant state spending increases and a scandal involving Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic relief fraud as potential Republican talking points.
“Rising crime and high-profile fraud within state government under his watch, with a nonpartisan legislative auditor saying, ‘You’re not taking it seriously,’” Pawlenty said. “The target audience for a lot of this is going to be persuadable voters in swing states.”
Meanwhile, Pawlenty also acknowledged Walz’s possible strengths as a campaigner.
“On a personal level, he’s energetic, he’s friendly, he’s folksy. He’s interested in issues. He likes to campaign,” Pawlenty said. “Their problem isn’t going to be campaign style or skills or energy. It’s going to be whether America is ready for a doubling down on this democrat-socialist agenda.”
He expressed doubts about the Harris-Walz ticket’s appeal, noting that Trump has his own challenges.
“I think this ticket, the Harris-Walz ticket, would be pretty beatable if the Republicans had a better candidate,” Pawlenty said. “There’s a bunch of Republicans and independents who don’t like Trump that the Republicans could leverage.”
Pawlenty clarified his personal stance, stating he does not support the Harris-Walz ticket and has voted for Trump in the past, with the possibility of doing so again.
“I think the Trump campaign is going to make it very clear that this isn’t some moderate or centrist choice,” he said of Walz. “They’re going to characterize it as a radical ticket. And I don’t know how well that will play in places like Pennsylvania.”
