First Poll: Macron Will Lose Election
The first poll conducted after Macron announced a snap election suggests French President Emmanuel Macron is on course for a stunning defeat at the hands of Marine Le Pen’s National Rally party.
The poll from Harris Interactive reveals that National Rally would obtain a majority of between 235 and 265 seats, whereas Macron’s party would win perhaps half that total—between 125 and 155 seats.

It’s worth noting that the poll was conducted before the announcement that National Rally and the Republicans (LR) will form an alliance under a single ticket.
The possibility of such an alliance has been thrown into turmoil in recent days, however, after an attempted coup against the leader of the Republicans, Éric Ciotti, by members of his party who are unhappy about joining forces with Marine Le Pen.
With or without such an alliance, the polling is bad news for Macron. Although the presidency is not on the ballot, if Macron loses badly, he will come under extreme pressure to resign.
And even if he doesn’t resign, his parliamentary agenda will be totally stymied for the remaining two years of his presidency. Term limits prevent him from seeking re-election in 2027.
The first round of the parliamentary elections will be held on 30 June, with the second following on 7 July.

California Senate Votes To Ban Schools Informing Parents of Children’s Gender Transitions
The California Senate voted in favour of a ban on school districts notifying parents if their children undergo a “social” gender transition at school. Schools would only be able to notify parents with a child’s permission.
Assembly Bill 1955 passed the Senate with 29 votes to eight and will be sent back to the Assembly for final approval of amendments.
The bill was introduced in the wake of school-board policies that make it mandatory in some California schools to notify parents or guardians if a student undergoes a so-called “social” gender transition at school. A social transition is when a student publicly decides they are a different gender, and have their choice “affirmed” by teachers and students.
The new bill puts into law guidance from California’s Department of Education, which states that “schools must consult with a transgender student to determine who can or will be informed of the student’s transgender status, if anyone, including the student’s family.”
Democrat supporters of the bill, such as Senator Susan Eggman, say that the bill means schools will provide a “supportive environment where [students] can figure out who they are.”
“That is one of the major developmental tasks that every single one of us has to do—is to begin to separate from our family of origin as we go out into the world and find our people,” Senator Eggman said.
“All this does basically is say [to] schools, it’s not your job to be the gender police. We don’t want those policies. We want everybody to be safe and affirm.”
Opponents of the bill believe parents should be informed about all significant events in their children’s development, especially if they experience gender dysphoria or begin the process of transitioning.
They also believe it sets a dangerous precedent for the state to interfere in families and potentially break them up. In recent months there has been renewed focus on the Montana parents who lost custody of their 14-year-old child for opposing her gender transition. They have filed a lawsuit against Montana’s child protective services, alleging their religious freedoms and civil rights were violated.
Republican Assemblyman Jim Patterson (Fresno) said the state should not “put up a wall” between children and their parents.
“The state does not own our children,” he added.
Bill 1955 has been described by other opponents as “unconstitutional, morally corrupt” and “an embarrassment for our state.”

Putin Sets Conditions for Ukraine Peace Talks: Full Ukrainian Withdrawal From New Russian Regions
Russia is ready to begin negotiations with Ukraine at any moment, but on one condition, President Vladimir Putin has said.
Russia today presents yet another concrete peace proposal for resolving the conflict in Ukraine. However, if the West and Kiev reject this offer as they have before, the responsibility for continued bloodshed will rest on them, Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated at a meeting with top diplomats at the Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow.
“Today, we make another specific, real peace proposal. If Kiev and the Western capitals refuse it, as they have previously, then ultimately, it is their matter. Their political and moral responsibility for the continuation of bloodshed,” he said.
Putin has offered Ukraine a “peace proposal” to permanently end this conflict and begin negotiations.

Ukraine, instructed by their US-handlers, have already denied the proposal because they refuse to admit defeat.

But for this to happen, Ukrainian forces must withdraw from the entire territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
“Ukrainian troops must fully withdraw from Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions – specifically from the entire territory of these regions within their administrative borders as they existed when they joined Ukraine. Once Kiev announces its readiness for this and begins the actual withdrawal of troops from these regions, as well as formally renounces plans to join NATO, we will immediately cease fire and start negotiations,” said the head of state.
Additionally, Russia requires Ukraine to adopt a neutral, non-aligned, and non-nuclear status for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
“Our fundamental position is as follows: a neutral, non-aligned, non-nuclear status for Ukraine, along with its demilitarization and de-Nazification. These parameters were broadly agreed upon during the Istanbul negotiations in 2022,” he said.
Putin emphasized that Russia is prepared to enter negotiations with Ukraine as soon as possible, acknowledging the complexities involved: “We are ready to sit at the negotiation table tomorrow, fully aware of the unique legal circumstances. Despite these, there are legitimate authorities, even according to their constitution, with whom we can negotiate.”
However, Putin noted that the presidential term of Volodymyr Zelensky has ended, and his legitimacy cannot be restored by any means: “The presidential term of the previously elected head of Ukraine has expired, along with his legitimacy, which cannot be reinstated by any stratagems.”
According to Putin, the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament) remains the only legitimate authority in the country, unlike Ukraine’s executive power. He added that the cancelation of elections reflects the nature of the current regime in Kiev, with its attempts to cling to power being prohibited by the Ukrainian Constitution.
“The situation with the cancelation of elections is a reflection of the very nature of the Kiev regime, which has its roots in the 2014 armed coup and is intertwined with it. The fact that, by canceling elections, they continue to cling to power – these actions are prohibited by Article 5 of the Ukrainian Constitution,” Putin declared.
He also claimed that there is an ongoing attempt to usurp power in Ukraine: “The current tragic chapter in Ukraine’s history began with the violent seizure of power, the unconstitutional coup in 2014. The source of power of the current Kiev regime is the armed coup, and now the circle has closed: executive power in Ukraine is once again, as in 2014, usurped and held unlawfully.”
Automatic Draft Registration Passes House of Representatives
All men aged between 18 and 26 will be automatically registered for the Selective Service System (SSS), which is used for military drafts, under a new bill that passed the House of Representatives on Friday.
The National Defense Authorization Act for the 2025 Fiscal Year passed by a vote of 217-209. It includes provisions to increase pay for serving military members, reduce wasteful spending, bolster NATO funding, and counter “aggressive actions taken by Russia and China,” according to a press release.
The SSS hasn’t been used for over half a century, since the Vietnam War, but men who fail to register face various penalties, including forfeiture of eligibility for federal programs and even jail time.
In recent years, the number of men avoiding registration has increased, in part because registration options were removed from the federal student-loan process.
There are fears that the automatic system will be used for a draft in the near future if America enters a state of open war with Russia or China—or both.
Among those who voted against the bill were Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who explained her decision in a post on Twitter.
“Today I voted NO on the NDAA. While there were many great things in the bill, it still allocates the annual $300 million to the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative which is used to fund the war in Ukraine. I am adamantly opposed to the war in Ukraine and I do not think funding a foreign war should be a mandatory annual funding requirement in our US military funding bill. The House also passed a measure automatically registering men aged 18 to 26 for selective service as part of the NDAA. I think we all know where that could lead.”
Reps. Thomas Massie and Matt Rosendale were also notable Republican opponents of the bill.
The bill will now advance to the Senate.
