Toddler, mother struck by gunfire during shootout between rival groups in D.C. metro area

An illegal alien who was ordered deported in 2022 was the fifth suspect arrested in the shooting death of a toddler in a Maryland ‘sanctuary’ county for illegal aliens.

The horrifying incident unfolded on February 8 in Langley Park, located in Prince George’s County in the Washington D.C. metro area.

Rival groups opened fire upon one another, and stray rounds struck a woman and her 2-year-old son, who were walking nearby.

A detective on patrol heard the gun battle and arrived quickly on the scene, where he found young Jeremy Poou-Caceres and his mother both suffering from gunshot wounds.

The child was later pronounced deceased but his mother survived.

“Since the murder, the PGPD has identified and arrested four other suspects – to include a 15-year-old male from Takoma Park and a 16-year-old male from Hyattsville. They are both charged as adults,” the Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) explained in a press release.

“The Homicide Unit has also arrested 33-year-old Israel Fuentes, Jr., of Lewisdale and 28-year-old Johnny Alejandro Turcios of Lewisdale.”

On Monday, PGPD announced the arrest of Nilson Trejo-Granados, 25, of “no fixed address.”

However, on Tuesday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) revealed Trejo-Granados is an illegal alien from El Salvador who was ordered deported in 2022 and has been arrested multiple times.

“On Nov. 7, 2022, a Department of Justice immigration judge in Newark, New Jersey ordered Trejo-Granados’ removal from the United States,” explained ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Baltimore spokesman James Covington in a statement to Fox 5.

Trejo-Granados was arrested for theft on two separate occasions last year in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Both times, ICE lodged immigration detainers against him that were ignored by county officials who released him back onto the street.

Granados-Trejo has now been charged with first degree murder, second degree murder, attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder, and multiple assaults in the first and second degree.

He is being held at the Prince George’s County Detention Center, and ICE has filed yet another immigration detainer against him.

An investigation is ongoing.

Prince George’s County formally established itself as a ‘sanctuary’ for illegal aliens with the passage of the “Community Inclusiveness Act” in 2019, which bars county agencies from cooperating with federal immigration authorities, but the county has operated as a de facto sanctuary for much longer.

Teen illegal alien charged in multiple violent crimes in New Orleans suburbs

An illegal alien from Honduras has been apprehended following multiple violent crimes in Louisiana this month, authorities say.

On Tuesday, the Kenner Police Department announced Angel Matias Castellanos-Orellana, 19, was arrested and charged with first-degree rape, armed robbery, aggravated battery, and aggravated assault in relation to two separate incidents.

In early February, Castellanos-Orellana allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl at knifepoint in Kenner, a city in the New Orleans suburbs.

The victim reported the brutal attack to local police, who identified the Honduran as the primary suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest last week.

While Castellanos-Orellana was still on the loose, he is believed to have stabbed a man during an armed robbery in Kenner on February 25.

At around 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, the victim was exiting his vehicle outside his residence when the suspect approached him and demanded he turn over valuables.

The suspect then stabbed the man multiple times in the face and back.

“Police searching the area found Castellanos covered in blood and standing in the middle of the street, authorities said. He matched the description of the robber and was taken into custody,” NOLA reports.

Authorities discovered Castellanos-Orellana was already wanted in the rape case and he was hit with charges for both attacks.

“Illegal immigrants continue to be a challenge to local law enforcement for many reasons. Lack of access to data, false identification and language barriers put local law enforcement at a huge disadvantage. We cannot verify if an illegal alien is giving correct information as it pertains to names and date of births. It is not only a drain on police manpower, but a financial drain on local law enforcement’s budgets and taxpayer’s money,” said Kenner Police Chief Keith A. Conley in a statement.

“In a 25-day period, this illegal alien caused terror in our community. We are glad he is off our streets, but will he be back? Will he have a new identity? What other crimes has he committed since he crossed our borders?”

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer against Castellanos-Orellana, who has reportedly used multiple aliases in the past.
