Study Finds Electric Vehicles Pollute The Environment 1,850 Times More Than Gas-Powered Cars
A study has found that electric vehicles pollute the environment at least 1,850 times more than their fossil fuel-based counterparts.
The 2022 study from the United Kingdom-based independent global emissions testing and research firm Emissions Analytics found that, during a 1,000-mile journey, EVs release 1,850 times more pollutants into the environment than their gas-powered counterparts due to the heavier weight that eats through the tires of EVs.
When discussing emissions, most would only consider the smoke and other pollutants belched by cars from their exhaust. But tire wear also plays a significant role in emitting pollutants. The synthetic rubber used to create tires includes certain chemicals that get released into the air, and EVs are significantly heavier than conventional cars due to their massive lithium batteries. (Related: EV COLLAPSE: Car dealerships are now rejecting EV deliveries due to low sales.)
Overall, EVs weigh about 30 percent more than gas-powered vehicles, and cost thousands more to make and buy. These issues are in addition to the fact that they are not suitable for colder climates such as Canada and the northern United States. They also offer poor range and long charging times, especially in cold weather, and have batteries that take tremendous resources to make and are difficult to recycle.
This revelation comes as more and more local and national governments across the world are moving to ban or severely limit the sale of new gasoline-powered cars in the coming decade despite the very clear technological deficiencies of electric cars.
Canada is already planning to mandate that all new cars and trucks sold in the country be electric by 2035. California is working on a similarly thorough ban on the sale of all new gas vehicles in the state by 2035.
Heavier cars emit more microplastics into environment
Hesham Rakha, a professor at Virginia Tech, noted that the tires of EVs, due to their added weight, will also emit more microplastics into the air. But this is also true of heavier fossil-fuel cars like SUVs.
This aligns with an earlier report from Emissions Analytics from 2022 that warned consumers that bigger and heavier cars, fossil fuel and electric alike, are bigger contributors “to microplastic marine pollution, as well as air pollution from finer particles.”
Rakha and a team of researchers at Virginia Tech are in the process of confirming the results of Emissions Analytics’ study. He expects to find that EVs emit around 20 percent more microplastics into the air than gas-powered vehicles.
Although Rakha did note that it is very challenging to determine the difference between the amount of microplastics emitted from EV tire treads and gas-powered vehicles because of the need to separate the microplastics that are already in the air from other sources with what’s coming off the tires.
Rakha further noted that people considering buying an EV need to remember that “it also generates a lot of carbon dioxide when charging your vehicle.”
EV batteries weigh about 1,000 pounds, and can result in tire emissions that are nearly 400 times more than tailpipe emissions.
Particle pollution from EVs can also increase the risk of health problems, including heart disease, asthma, lung disease and, in extreme cases, can even lead to hospitalization, cancer and premature death.

Russia Accuses US of ‘Direct Involvement’ in Ukraine Conflict
The US is aggravating the Ukraine conflict by continuing to support Kiev financially and suggesting a course of action on the ground, the Russian ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, has said.
Washington’s rhetoric about the need to pour more money into Kiev to help it attack Crimea signals America’s direct participation, Antonov told reporters on Wednesday in response to an earlier statement by CIA Director William Burns.
Additional funds would allow Ukraine to conduct more “deep penetration strikes in Crimea,” continue targeting the Russian Black Sea fleet and eventually “regain the offensive initiative,” Burns told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence on Monday.
“The situation has reached a point where some high-ranking [US] officials are saying: we need to help Ukrainians ‘strike deep in Crimea.’ In other words, the direct involvement of the United States in the conflict has been officially recognized,” Antonov stated.
He went on to warn that the direct participation of Ukraine’s Western backers in the conflict is “a dangerous course, fraught with the most unpredictable consequences,” not only for the security of the US, but for the whole world.
The CIA director’s appeal came as the US is struggling to approve a new $60 billion aid package amid persistent complaints from Ukrainian authorities about a lack of munitions on the front lines. While that funding is stalled in Congress, the White House on Tuesday announced a smaller $300 million military aid injection for Kiev, the first this year.

According to Antonov, with this new package the US administration “confirmed the constancy of its disastrous course of prolonging the military conflict in Ukraine.” “The United States does not want to understand the simple truth that no American weapon will stop [Russia’s] special military operation… Its use will only lead to an increase in casualties among ordinary citizens of the post-Soviet republic,” he said.
Moscow has repeatedly said that it is open to peace negotiations to bring an end to the fighting and insisted that by funding Kiev’s war effort the West is eliminating the possibility of a diplomatic breakthrough. However, the US and its NATO allies say that the only acceptable basis for peace talks is the formula put forward by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, which requires the return of all former Ukrainian territories, the unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops and an international tribunal for Russian leaders. Moscow has refused to negotiate under such terms.

White House Announces $300Mln Emergency Security Assistance Package for Ukraine
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced on Tuesday a new $300 million security assistance package for Ukraine.
“Today, on behalf of President [Joe] Biden, I’m announcing an emergency package of security assistance of $300 million worth of weapons and equipment to address some of Ukraine’s pressing needs,” said Sullivan during a press briefing.

Sullivan added that the package was made possible because of unanticipated cost savings in contracts the Defense Department negotiated to replace equipment already sent to Ukraine through previous drawdowns.
New Aid Package Includes Artillery, GMLRS Munitions
The new US $300 million aid package for Ukraine will include Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) rockets for their High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), he noted.
“This emergency package that we’re announcing contains a large tranche of artillery rounds and GMLRS,” he said.
Media reported that the package will also include ATACMS, the US long-range, precision-strike, surface-to-surface missile system.
New Aid Not Enough to Meet Kiev’s Battlefield Needs
Jake Sullivan also added that the new $300 million US emergency security aid package for Ukraine is not enough to meet Kiev’s needs on the battlefield and will not prevent it from running out of munitions in the coming weeks.
“This ammunition will keep Ukraine’s guns firing for a period, but only a short period,” Sulivan said during a press briefing.
“It is nowhere near enough to meet Ukraine’s battlefield needs and it will not prevent Ukraine from running out of ammunition in the weeks to come.”
Western countries have provided hundreds of billions of dollars worth of aid to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s special military operationin February 2022. Aid shipments began in 2022 with artillery munitions and training and have escalated to include tanks, advanced air-defense systems, missiles and cluster munitions. All while making false statements about the so-called “Russian threat” and simultaneously conducting full scale military drills close to Russian borders.
The Kremlin has consistently warned against the West’s continued arms deliveries to Ukraine, saying that they only prolong the conflict, adding that Western military equipment will be eventually destroyed. Moscow also cautioned that NATO countries “are playing with fire” by providing Kiev with arms.
