White House Defends Labeling Critical Biden Videos as ‘Deepfakes’
The world (and the US with it, with the current US administration pretty much leading the way) has for the last few years witnessed what has obviously been a concerted effort to make “AI-powered deepfakes” a thing.
Specifically – a thing that can negatively shape up an election, or even break a democracy.
Anyone, especially apolitical people but those with even a cursory knowledge of the “deepfakes” tech and how long it’s been around in all sorts of media, might have been confused as to why this rhetoric is happening, and why now?
Well – now – months before a US presidential election, we’re starting to get answers.
President Joe Biden is trying to remain in office – and now the White House is giving the world an indication of why the “deepfakes” scaremongering was launched in the first place (and then dutiful picked up by certain – or let’s say, most – corporate media.)
“Confused and disoriented” is a (believe it or not) nicer way to describe the situation with President Biden and his public appearances; the latest, and at this time, the most important, concerns his performance during debates last week.
Instead of trying to prop their candidate up (figuratively and literally) in some credible way, the current White House decided to label the media showing clips of Biden “malfunctioning” as, in addition to being “disinformation, misinformation” – also “cheap fakes.”
But what in the world is that? Is it a video that somebody just happens to dislike, so it’s branded in a way deceptively invoking the dreaded “deepfakes”?
White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre was certainly working hard to earn her salary when she tried to explain this one.
“Not at all,” Jean-Pierre said, when quizzed if there was regret over criticizing the media for “clips showing the president appearing to be confused, freezing at times, and you (White House) called it ‘cheap fakes,’ misinformation, disinformation.”
“At the end of the day, they were fakes,” the press secretary asserted. “And the cheap fakes didn’t come from me, I didn’t coin that. That came from the media… I don’t regret it at all, it was just the facts.”
Florida Police Arrest 18-Year-Old Who Allegedly did Burnouts on LGBTQIAAP2S+ Street Mural
(LifeSiteNews) — An 18-year-old Florida man was arrested by St. Petersburg Police on July 1 for doing burnouts with his vehicle that left skid marks on a rainbow “Pride” mural in May.
According to law enforcement, Christian Maier was caught on video damaging a pro-LGBT street painting on May 22 at 2:40 a.m. The crosswalk experienced a similar act of protest just five days earlier on May 17 at 9:30 a.m. Police say the two incidents are not related.
Maier was released from Pinellas County Jail after posting a $5,500 bond. He pleaded not guilty to two felony charges for criminal mischief and racing on a street. The mischief charge was originally a misdemeanor but later deemed a felony due to the damages exceeding $1,000. Maier has not been charged with a hate crime at this time.
Acts of protests like the one carried out by Maier are seemingly becoming a common occurrence in the United States. As reported by LifeSite in June, three teenage boys in Spokane, Washington could face up to five years in jail and up to $10,000 in fines for putting skid marks on a rainbow-colored street mural with their scooters. Three other acts of vandalism, all unrelated, have been carried out on the mural since October 2023.
The Tampa Bay Times has likewise reported that a 19-year-old male was arrested for allegedly defacing a rainbow “Pride” mural in Delray Beach in March.
St. Petersburg is home to some of the most pro-LGBT policies in the United States. According to its website, the city has since 2014 earned a “perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index (MEI), which examines the laws, policies, and services of municipalities and rates them on the basis of their inclusivity of LGBTQ+ people who live and work there.”
The city also boasts about having an LGBTQ+ visitor information, a Metro Inclusive Health LGBTQ+ Welcome Center, and the largest Pride celebration in Florida. What’s more, the city observes March 31 as “Transgender Day of Visibility” and November 20 as “Transgender Day of Remembrance.” The police department as well as the mayor’s office have a “LGBT+ liaison” position that specializes in catering to the complaints of persons in the St. Petersburg community who are confused about their gender and believe this entitles them to have a personal hotline to local authorities.
Germany Will ‘Never’ Support Ukraine Ceasefire – Scholz
Berlin must not back any call for a truce that would see Kiev admit defeat, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said.
As Scholz took questions from members of the Bundestag on Wednesday, Left lawmaker Gesine Loetzsch asked about Germany’s involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the possibility of a ceasefire.
“In my view, a ceasefire that involves Ukraine’s capitulation is one that we as Germany must never support,” Scholz replied, according to the state broadcaster Deutsche Welle.
The German chancellor argued that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s truce terms amounted to Ukraine’s surrender, calling Moscow “cynical” and not interested in ending the conflict.
“Putin only talks about peace negotiations in order to continue the war. We will not allow this,” Scholz said.

Last month, the Russian president named several conditions before peace talks with Ukraine could begin. Moscow would order a ceasefire the moment Kiev withdraws troops from the territory of all four regions that voted to join Russia and officially announces it no longer wishes to join NATO, he said.
The lifting of all Western sanctions and the “demilitarization and denazification” of the Ukrainian government would also have to happen before a peace could be concluded.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban had proposed a “quick ceasefire” to Vladimir Zelensky on his visit to Kiev earlier this week, but said the Ukrainian leader “didn’t like it very much.”
Scholz was also asked to guarantee that Germany would not become a party to the war. Berlin has been the biggest EU donor to the Ukrainian cause, while insisting that this did not make Germany a participant in the hostilities.
“Yes, I give this guarantee,” Scholz said. “As chancellor, I stand by that.”
Germany’s ruling ‘traffic light’ coalition has been rattled by a poor showing in last month’s European Parliament election, leading to speculation that Scholz might have to resign in the near future. The chancellor admitted that “many people do not agree with the support for Ukraine and the sanctions against Russia,” but refused to change his policy.
