France: Sudanese Refugee won’t be Deported Despite Burning Down 16 Apartments, Multiple Cars, Part of a Church, and Seriously Injuring a Student
In a case that involved at least 27 victims, a 35-year-old Sudanese man has been convicted for multiple arson attacks across the French city of Pau, which were set over the period of at least two months, between March and May 2022. During one of the attacks, a young female student was forced to jump from her window, 7 meters (22 feet) off the ground, resulting in her breaking both her ankles and leaving her confined to using a cane, even as of today.
The man has now been convicted for his serial arson attacks, but the judge in the case refuses to deport him, saying that being sent back to Sudan would represent too grave a threat to his life.
Wave of arson attacks
The first incident occurred on the night of March 18, 2022, when he set a building on fire at Rue Darrichon and Passage des Alliés along with two vehicles nearby, according to French news outlet La Republique des Pyrenees.
On the night of May 3, he lit an entire building on fire at Rue Henri-Faisans, which was engulfed in flames. Dozens of students were trapped inside but only one was seriously injured. The fire had started in an Indian restaurant on the first floor but soon spread to the rest of the building.
On May 12, the Sudanese man set seven vehicles on fire in the Zaragoza district, and then on the same night, he broke into the Saint-Pierre Church and set fire to the presbytery.
In total, he set fire to eight vehicles over the course of the attacks.
‘The fear of dying stuck in her apartment’
Numerous victims testified in the case, with many of them relating how the man had destroyed their lives, both financially and psychologically.
One of the victims, Laurence, was so seriously injured in the fire on Rue Faisans that she said during the trial that it was a “miracle” she could even attend. Her lawyer, Me Marrien, said Laurence experienced “the fear of dying stuck in her apartment,” as flames quickly spread inside. The lawyer then asked: “How could he have seen what he did and do it again?”

Laurence, who was a student attending university when the Sudanese arsonist set her building on fire, was forced to jump from her apartment window. The jump, which broke both her ankles, has left her still using a cane, and doctors say it is unclear whether she will regain her full ability to walk during her lifetime. The building the man attacked was a dormitory packed full of French students.
The judge in the case sentenced the Sudanese man to 10 years in prison, short of the 12 years requested by the prosecution.

Laurence said “It’s a fair sentence” even if she had preferred the 12 years requested by deputy prosecutor Sébastien Baraldi. However, despite the arson attack that nearly cost the victim her life and left her disabled, she said she did not want the arsonist permanently banned from French soil.
The judge also refused to issue a deportation order in the case despite the serious nature of the crime and the prosecution’s recommendation that the asylum seeker be deported, with the judge saying that his deportation to Sudan “would have resulted in his death.”
During the trial, the Sudanese suspect offered no reason as to why he participated in numerous arson attacks. He simply said he had had too much alcohol.

German Stock Exchange Boss Slams Government, says ‘Economic Policy is Sheer Catastrophe’ and ‘Migration Policy is Universally Wrong’
German business leaders are coming out against the ruling left-liberal government, and one of the biggest, the CEO of Deutsche Börse AG, a multinational corporation that operates the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, one of the biggest stock exchanges in the world, is now labeling the current government’s policy as “a disaster” on a range of issues, including migration and economic policy.
Theodor Weimer issued the scathing rebuke against the ruling government at an event organized by the Bavarian Economic Advisory Council.
During his speech at the Bayerischer Hof hotel in Munich, Weimer said, “I have now had my 18th meeting with our Vice-Chancellor and Minister of Economic Affairs Robert Habeck, and I can tell you, it’s a sheer catastrophe.”
The 64-year-old Weimer, who has a bird’s-eye view of the German economy through his role as the boss of the largest stock exchange in the country, said that his talks with international investors gave him “direct knowledge” of their opinions on Germany. He noted that “I know half of the DAX CEOs. I know bosses personally and on a first-name basis. And I get around a lot. I don’t want to spoil things tonight, but.our reputation in the world has never been as bad as it is now.”
He said that the “discussions with investors have a fatalistic character. Investors are saying that if you carry on like this, we will sun you even more, we will get even further out of Germany.”
He further laid on the criticism, stating: “You’re just crazy, just crazy. What kind of government do you have there? You’re well on the way to becoming a really outdated economy.”
Furthermore, Weimer warned that the situation was not getting better and that while Habeck was receptive to his input in the beginning about how to return Germany to its former economic strength, he was increasingly listening to “fundamentalists” who are “getting through more and more.”
“The truth is this: International investors say we only invest in Germany because you are so cheap. We have become a junk store,” he claimed.
The speech was made on April 17 but has only become public now after the Economic Advisory Board posted it on Youtube.
Weimer also delved into an issue that has plagued stock markets around the world, which is that fundamentals no longer drive markets, but instead speculation, momentum and other factors.
He noted that the DAX (an index of 40 major German companies) remains strong, but that investors putting their money in German companies at the moment are “only opportunistic” and not investing for fundamentals. They also demand a “risk premium” when putting their money in Germany.
“We used to have a risk discount because the whole world said that Germany was great,” he noted.
Migration policy is ‘completely wrong
Weimer also briefly touched on the topic of migration, but his remarks were equally scathing there. He said he did not wish to get too political, but he could not help but say something in regard to the ruling left-liberal government’s migration policy, which he said was “universally perceived as completely wrong. Our orientation towards ‘do-gooderism’ is not shared anywhere.”
He continued on the topic, saying: “If you have a shortage of skilled workers, you bring in people who speak your language and generate social product, but not those who collect 50 percent of the citizen’s income and send it somewhere.”
Defense policy is ‘madness’
From there, he jumped into the topic of defense, stating that Germany has been “cheating” on defense spending and failing to hit the 2 percent target expected of all NATO countries. This cheating, he noted, took the form of including “pensions” in Germany’s calculations, which should not actually count towards defense spending.
“Do you think that no one in the USA realizes what we are doing? This is madness: We have ammunition for one and a half to two days,” he said.

George Clooney’s Foundation to Issue Arrest Warrant Requests for Journalists who say Nice Things About Russia
The Clooney Foundation for Justice’s Docket Project is pursuing secret arrest warrants for journalists in Europe whose reporting is favorable to Russia in a move that a Kremlin spokesperson has labeled “insane.”
By now, we’re all painfully aware that facts and truth don’t matter to a lot of people if they don’t align with their views, and now this foundation, which was founded by actor George Clooney and his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, is trying to use legal processes to stop professionals from doing their jobs.
The Docket Project’s legal director, Anna Neistat, recently told Voice of America radio that they are attempting to obtain the arrest warrants by appealing to the European countries that have laws against “war propaganda.” She announced: “We are submitting requests to initiate criminal proceedings in countries where this provision exists in the criminal code.”
She added: “If the warrant is issued, it essentially becomes an EU-wide warrant through Europol. This means journalists could potentially be arrested and extradited to the country investigating them.”
She would not disclose the names of the journalists they are targeting but did admit that they were focusing on “the most prominent Russian propagandists.”
She seemed to take particular delight in the idea of catching the journalists they are targeting off guard, explaining how they are seeking secret warrants.
“We are asking prosecutors to issue secret arrest warrants… so the names are not revealed. We want these individuals to travel to other countries and be arrested there. It’s better if they are left guessing rather than receiving a clear warning,” she said.
They are also looking into asking the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate certain journalists’ involvement in what she termed “incitement to genocide.” Although she conceded that this is legally complex and the court is already overloaded, it appears they are looking into every avenue possible to censor reporters whose information they find inconvenient or unflattering.
Russian authorities complain of double standard
Russian authorities are complaining about a double standard here, saying that Western countries do nothing when Russian journalists are persecuted by Ukraine. Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyanskiy, said that Kiev often boasts about killing Russian journalists. He listed several journalists who have recently died at the hands of Ukrainian special services, including Izvestia war correspondent Semyon Yeremin, who was killed in April by a Ukrainian kamikaze drone. He also named Sputnik war correspondent Rostislav Zhuravlev, Rossiya-24 war correspondent Boris Maksudov, Vladlen Tatarsky, and Darya Dugina.
Russian Security Council Deputy Chair Dmitry Medvedev called out Clooney and his foundation on social media in a posting on X that also denigrated his acting skills. He wrote: “A certain mediocre actor called George Clooney has decided to use his Foundation to hunt down Russian journalists all over the world and persecute them.”
He added: “The effort would be wasted, however: our professional journalists will find him first. They are very attentive and highly trained people. And they are going to have a chat “from dusk till dawn.”
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova slammed the move. She pointed out that one of the stated goals of the Clooney Foundation for Justice is protecting journalists; to the Clooneys, this apparently means “hounding them by the means of politically and ethnically motivated criminal prosecution.”

Nancy Pelosi Makes Gun Control Push to Prioritize ‘Children’s Survival’ While Ignoring Abortion
WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) – Former House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi declared over the weekend that “no one’s political survival is more important than our children’s survival” — in reference to gun control, not abortion-on-demand, that she ardently supports.
“No one’s political survival is more important than our children’s survival,” Pelosi, the former Speaker of the House who continues to represent California’s 11th Congressional District, said on June 8. “Survivors and advocates turning pain into purpose demand an assault weapons ban. #WearOrange today and Vote Blue to defeat Republicans standing in the way of commonsense solutions to gun violence.”

The message was meant to commemorate “Wear Orange Weekend,” an awareness campaign organized by the left-wing gun control group Everytown for Gun Safety. But Pelosi’s choice of words inadvertently drew attention to her and her party’s avowed opposition to children’s survival when the subject turns to abortion — and their refusal to let that stop them from invoking dead children to provoke emotional responses to their favored policy goals.
Despite self-identifying as Catholic, Pelosi holds a 100% pro-abortion voting record, has bemoaned the 2022 overturn of Roe v. Wade as “jeopardizing the health, freedom and safety of women across the country,” and most recently vowed that Democrats will legislate a national right to abortion if they retain the presidency and win enough congressional seats in this November’s elections.
The ex-Speaker, who has long responded indignantly to any suggestion that her absolutist pro-abortion stance represents a failure to live up to her presumed faith, was forbidden in May 2022 from receiving Communion in her local diocese by San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone. A month later, however, she was reportedly allowed to do so at St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican in a Mass presided over by Pope Francis.
Fourteen states currently ban all or most abortions, with available data so far indicating that now-enforceable pro-life laws could effectively wipe out an estimated 200,000 abortions a year. But the abortion lobby is working feverishly to cancel out those deterrent effects by deregulated interstate distribution of abortion pills, legal protection and financial support of interstate abortion travel, constructing new abortion facilities near borders shared by pro-life and pro-abortion states, making liberal states sanctuaries for those who want to evade or violate the laws of more pro-life neighbors, and enshrining abortion “rights” in state constitutions.

New York Passes Online Age Verification Digital ID Law
Lawmakers in New York have passed the Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation (SAFE) for Kids Act and the Child Data Protection Act.
Assembly Bill A8148A and Senate Bill S7694A (that became the SAFE Act) were introduced as aiming to prevent social platforms from showing minors “addictive” (i.e., algorithmically manipulated) feeds, among a host of other provisions.
Parental consent is now required for children to have access to the latter versions of the feeds – which in turn means that the controversial age verification for adults must be introduced into the mix.
The new rules will not prohibit children from searching for particular keywords but social platforms will not be able to send notifications to their phones “regarding addictive feeds” from midnight to 6 am – again, this will be possible, but only with parental consent.
Could this be the true impetus behind the two bills – to usher in age verification and digital ID, some skeptics might wonder.
Regardless, Governor Kathy Hochul was in a celebratory mood late last week announcing the outcome that she pushed for, with the backing of some parent and student organizations. The Democrat is expected to sign the bills shortly.
The SAFE and Child Data Protection Acts are touted as proof that legislators in New York are not beholden to Big Tech – and the bills and their passage are being described as “historic and transformative,” likely because this is the first set of their kind in a US state.
How the laws get enforced and what positive, or negative (given the age verification factor) consequences they will have, will become evident in time. Meanwhile, heads of various legislative bodies, the state Attorney-General, and assembly members are congratulating each other and talking up the new legislation.
Age – and how to determine it (that is, uncontroversially, while protecting people’s right to privacy and anonymity) – crops up again with The New York Child Data Protection Act, which says data belonging to anyone under 18 cannot be collected, used, shared or sold – “unless they receive informed consent or unless doing so is strictly necessary for the purpose of the website.”
There’s room to breathe here for Big Tech, but their trade groups are still framing all this as a First Amendment violation issue.

Russian Twitch Star Jailed for Criticizing War in Ukraine
As part of the escalating crackdown on free speech in Russia, Twitch streamer Anna Bazhutova, known online as “Yokobovich,” has been condemned to a prison term of five and a half years. Her offense? Criticizing the Russian military’s actions in Ukraine.
Arrested in 2023, Bazhutova, a popular figure on the streaming platform with over 9,000 followers, faced charges for her broadcasts that included witness accounts of atrocities by Russian forces in the Ukrainian city of Bucha.
According to The Moscow Times, the court’s decision came down this month, with Bazhutova found guilty of “spreading false information” about military operations, a charge under Article 207.3 of Russia’s criminal code that can attract a sentence as severe as 15 years. Despite the severe potential maximum, Bazhutova’s sentence was set at just over a third of this possible duration.
Details surrounding the exact timing of the incriminating broadcast are murky, with sources citing either 2022 or 2023 as the year it occurred. Nevertheless, the impact was immediate and severe, drawing ire from authorities and leading to her arrest. Before her trial, Russian police raided her home, seizing electronic devices and detaining Bazhutova, who has been in custody since August 2023.
Her troubles with authorities were compounded in March 2023 when her Twitch channel was abruptly banned, something Twitch is yet to comment on.
Bazhutova’s case is not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern of punitive measures against those who speak out against the Russian state’s actions in Ukraine.
