Germany: Upcoming State Elections to Bring Major Political Shift
On Sept. 1, two key East German states, Saxony and Thuringia, will hold landmark elections: The Alternative for Germany (AfD) looks unstoppable and the popularity of the left-wing Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) is soaring.
The whole of Germany is watching anxiously as local people decide their future on Sept. 1. In the former East Germany, there is a growing discontent with the policies and actions of the federal coalition government, which, according to opinion polls, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) is now without doubt the strongest party in Saxony and Thuringia, followed by the Christian Democrats (CDU), while the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), which was formed in the winter, is in third place and starting to catch up with 15 to 20 percent.
The right-wing AfD, which is calling for more action against illegal immigration, and the similarly oppositional but left-wing BSW are not only united by a general dissatisfaction with the CDU; both parties are opposed to further support for Ukraine and call for peace as soon as possible.
A poll in January this year already showed that if the elections in Saxony had taken place then, the radical anti-immigration AfD would almost certainly have won the most votes, 37 percent, followed by the CDU with around 30 percent, while the Social Democrats would not even have been elected to the state parliament.
The latest figures show a slight difference, but this does not mean that Michael Kretschmer, who currently leads the CDU-SPD-Green coalition in Saxony, can sit back comfortably. Opinion polls show them with a lead of just 4 percent, while the AfD is a close second with 30 percent.
And the serious terrorist attack in Solingen on Friday and the steady increase in other migrant-related crimes are probably not a reflection on the Kretschmer’s side either.
In Thuringia, where the CDU is in government with the Greens, the AfD is confidently in the lead with 30 percent, with only 21 percent supporting the CDU and 3 percent the Greens.
Synagogue Attack by ‘Arab-looking Suspect with Palestinian Flag’ Ignites Debate on Rising Antisemitism in France
On Saturday, August 24th, an attack targeted a synagogue in La Grande Motte, a popular seaside resort on the Mediterranean. A criminal broke into the sacred building, where a gas cylinder was opened, followed by two fires outside. Over the weekend, there was a succession of political reactions, with part of the French left denying that the attack was antisemitic.
On Saturday morning, a fire broke out at the Beth Yaacov synagogue. On arrival on the site, firefighters and police discovered several vehicles in flames. A violent explosion threw a policeman to the ground.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin quickly confirmed the criminal nature of the attack and expressed his support for the Jewish community. Four hours after the explosion, the investigation was handed over to the national anti-terrorist prosecutor’s office.
Only five people, including the rabbi, were in the synagogue at the time. The Shabbat service was scheduled for 9 a.m., but the assailant obviously got the time wrong. The “anti-Semitic attack” could have turned into an “absolute tragedy” if the worshippers had been there, said the outgoing Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, who visited the site a few hours after the event.
Images of the perpetrator were recorded by the town’s surveillance cameras. They show an Arab-looking suspect wearing a Palestinian flag tied around his waist, a keffiyeh on his head and a handgun in his belt. He was holding a bottle of water, probably filled with petrol.
On Saturday evening, after a manhunt leading to the sensitive Pissevin district of Nîmes, known for its violence and trafficking of all kinds, the suspect was arrested just before midnight by police officers from the elite Raid unit. The police had to open fire to arrest the individual, who was holed up on the top floor of a tower block. The man was Algerian and legally resident in France. Four members of his entourage were also taken into custody.
French politicians reacted en masse to condemn the antisemitic attack. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, President of the far-left France Insoumise, caused controversy with a post on X, which mentions neither the word antisemitism nor the word Jew.
This questionable choice drew the ire of Mélenchon’s allies within the New Popular Front coalition. Marine Tondelier, leader of the Greens, criticised his communication, as well as his statement a few months ago that antisemitism was “residual” in France.
Fabien Roussel, general secretary of the Communist Party, had some unambiguous words for his part: “Antisemitism is on the rise in France, and it has struck again in La Grande-Motte. The perpetrators of this act must be identified and punished. Solidarity with our Jewish compatriots,” he posted on X.
On the Right, Marine Le Pen denounced an act that she saw as a consequence of the rise of anti-Semitism in France.

Valérie Pécresse, chairwoman of the Ile-de-France region and close to the Les Républicains party, believes that “those who for months have been multiplying verbal outrages against our compatriots of the Jewish faith in public debate bear a heavy responsibility for the explosion in antisemitic acts.”
Since the events of October 7th, the climate for Jews in France has become particularly heavy, while antisemitic acts are exploding. According to the Ministry of the Interior, antisemitic incidents have almost tripled since the start of the year, with “887 incidents” recorded in the first half of 2024, compared with 304 during the same period in 2023. They had already risen sharply in 2023, particularly after 7 October, with 1,676 acts, “i.e. four times more than in 2022,” reports the newspaper Les Échos.
In an interview with La Tribune, Simone Rodan Benzaquen, European Director of the American Jewish Committee, said that today “the future of Jews in France is in question.” Daniel Halevy-Goetschel, Minister-Counsellor at the Israeli Embassy in France, says he has noticed “an increase in the statistics of people who want to emigrate to Israel because of the precarious situation, as they feel it, in France at the moment.” The Minister-Counsellor added that Israel was following the ups and downs of the formation of the new French government very closely: “France chooses its elected representatives and the Israeli government will decide at the appropriate time what attitude to adopt towards this or that government,” he told France info: A thinly veiled way of expressing his concern about the possibility of a left-wing government with ambiguous positions on antisemitism.
Kamala Harris to Reduce Illegal Immigration by Legalizing it, Not Stopping it
At this election cycle’s Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, Vice President Kamala Harris and the rest of her party unveiled plans for radical amnesty as the solution to out-of-control illegal immigration.
By effectively legalizing illegal immigration, it will become a non-crime for noncitizens to storm the country by force because Kamala and her political pals are ready to end all penalties for breaking and entering into the United States.
Something called the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 is a featured topic at the DNC this year. Critics describe it as a blatant “population replacement” blueprint that outlines how all of America’s remaining White population will be eliminated and replaced with illegal migrants.
Further described as “the most extreme and absurd amnesty bill ever written,” the U.S. Citizenship Act threatens to upend the republic – some would argue the republic has already been irreversibly upended – and turn the nation into a Democrat voting plantation.
“It’s a blatant ‘population replacement’ bill designed to flood our country with foreigners who will vote Democrat, effectively drowning out legitimate American citizens,” reported Revolver News.
“If this act passes, it would be a bullet train to the destruction of our nation.”
(Related: Kamala says that her first order of business on “day one” of her presidency will be to release all criminal illegal aliens into American society.)
Trump compares DNC in Chicago to communist China
Former President Donald Trump chimed in on X about the radical duo of Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and what they would do to the United States if they are allowed anywhere near the White House, and he did it with the following image and no words:
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 18, 2024
The fact of the matter is that the worst and most policies of Kamala and her vice president pal Tim Walz are barely getting any mention in the corporate media, including their relocation plans for illegals.
According to reports, Kamala is planning to build Soviet-style apartments where millions of illegals will live. In her “first term,” since she is already planning for a second, Kamala aims to build housing for an astounding three million illegals who will no longer be considered illegal under her policies.
American citizens are struggling to keep up with inflation and job losses while Kamala and her handlers release schematics for how to taxpayer-fund a new life for millions of illegal aliens on U.S. soil. How did we get here?
“This is nothing short of horrific,” one media report states flat-out. “These people are communist lunatics, and Kamala Harris at the helm would spell the end of everything we hold dear.”
“… our country is being turned into a catch-all for the entire world … They’re doing to the U.S. what’s already happening in Europe and the UK, but they’re doing it through radical left-wing legislation.”
It is not just that Kamala and her handlers want to legalize illegal immigration. It is that they want to completely transform the U.S. from what it once was into what it is now becoming: a land where only evil is present and everything good is extinguished forever.
Kamala Harris’ DNC platform pledges to pass the U.S. Citizenship Act. What is it? The most radical amnesty bill ever written. Amnesty for human traffickers & gang members, no welfare restrictions for migrants, lets deportees return, & worse.

“The centerpiece of the DNC platform is KILLING CHILDREN BEFORE BIRTH,” one commenter wrote about how abortion has taken main stage for Democrats as well.
“Surrounding it is degeneracy, perversion, and malice towards anyone who doesn’t agree with their depravity. There are no more lines for them to cross and they’ll do anything to hang on to power, including by bankrupting, jailing, or even killing opposition candidates.”

North Carolina is Challenged on its Ballot Box Selfie Ban
The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) has announced it is helping sue North Carolina’s State Board of Elections over a ban, which the group considers unconstitutional, of what are known as “ballot selfies.”
FIRE is supporting a lawsuit filed by Susan Hogarth against members of the North Carolina board.
We obtained a copy of the lawsuit for you here.
This US state treats taking photos or videos of a voted ballot as a misdemeanor. Hogarth found herself on the wrong side of this rule when she took a selfie with a ballot paper and then posted it on X, as a form of support for her chosen candidate.
This happened in early March during the North Carolina Libertarian Party primary.
But Hogarth is also vocal in her opposition to rules banning this sort of behavior, and made sure to express that opinion, too, when she photographed a sign in front of the voting premises that warned against taking photos in the voting booth – and then posted that picture on X as well.
“Laws against #ballotselfie are bullshit,” was the caption. FIRE agrees.

And, the non-profit noted, not only do several statutes in North Carolina make it a crime to do what Hogarth did in the voting booth: but this is true also of, for example, “posing with absentee ballots in the comfort of your own home.”
After the posts on X, the state election board then sent Hogarth a letter, threatening fines or even jail unless she deleted them. She decided not to and instead went for suing the board on First Amendment grounds – namely, that the government can only restrict free speech if there’s a compelling reason.
Nothing about North Carolina officials’ actions, or the state rules, indicates that there’s such a reason, FIRE said – hence, the lawsuit.
And even though North Carolina is not alone in this – 13 other states have similar rules – citizens fairly routinely ignore them. “More than 20 million Americans nationwide say they’ve taken a ‘ballot selfie’,” FIRE remarks.
The group’s attorney Jeff Zeman said that what these people are doing is core political speech, while innocent citizens are criminalized for behavior that is protected by the First Amendment.
Hogarth and FIRE want the court to overturn all laws in North Carolina designed to prohibit photos of ballots, and “ballot selfies.”
