Israeli Military Investigation Reveals Many Oct. 7 Israeli Casualties Were Caused by IDF Rather Than Hamas
Israel has used the events of October 7 to justify a lengthy and very bloody war in Gaza that has caused the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians. On that date, Hamas terrorists entered southern Israel, where they reportedly killed more than 1,100 people and took 251 hostages.
However, it turns out that some of the Israeli deaths on that day came not at the hands of Hamas but instead as the result of “friendly fire” from the Israeli military. This is something that Hamas has been claiming for some time now, and many media reports about it were quickly dismissed as “disinformation.”
Now, however, leaks from a report compiled by the Israeli military itself confirm that a lot of the October 7 casualties were the result of friendly fire.
According to Israeli broadcaster Channel 12, a military investigation revealed that “friendly fires led to the deaths and injuries of an unspecified number of Israeli soldiers”. In addition, IDF forces were deployed in a “chaotic” manner.
A full official report is expected to be released next month, and it will essentially be an official admission that numerous Israelis were killed by the IDF and not Hamas. The IDF has not denied the information that has been leaked so far despite being aggressive about denying other leaks and failures.
Reports indicate Israel enacted the Hannibal Directive
Israel has also been accused of directing soldiers to kill hostages instead of letting Hamas use them as bargaining chips in a practice known as the Hannibal Directive. Although the IDF’s review seems to indicate that the so-called friendly fire incidents were more a matter of incompetence than intentional killings, a separate investigation conducted by the Israeli media outlet Ynet found that Israel did direct troops to kill hostages.
The Jerusalem Post noted: “According to the report, the probe will find numerous cases of friendly fire errors leading to tragic deaths, groups of IDF soldiers who were too hesitant to confront Hamas invaders (as still others rushed to fight without being formally summoned)…”; the publication also reported that some commanders struggled to manage complex battlefield situations involving hostages.
Israel has publicly denied using the Hannibal Directive, but there is some evidence indicating that Israeli forces fired on homes where they knew civilians were present, including one incident at Kibbutz Be’eri that led to the deaths of a dozen Israelis who were being held hostage by Palestinian Hamas gunmen.
The full official report is expected to take a long-term view of not only October 7 but the situation with Gaza dating back several years. In early August, a report on what took place in Israel the day before the attacks that includes specific warnings, actions and failures to act will be published; it is expected to shed light on a significant intelligence failure on the part of a country that was once known for its impressive intelligence capabilities.
Earlier this month, a report by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry exposed numerous incidents involving the Israeli army using the Hannibal Directive on October 7. It also confirmed a statement made by an Israeli tank crew that they “had applied the Hannibal Directive by shooting at a vehicle which they suspected was transporting abducted [Israeli] soldiers.”
Other situations it documented included a woman being killed by Israeli helicopter fire as she was being abducted by Hamas militants from Nir Oz to Gaza and the Be’eri incident.
Last month, IDF tanks killed five of their own soldiers and wounded seven in a friendly fire incident that took place in Jabalya in northern Gaza.

Portugal’s Chega to Join Orbán’s ‘Patriots for Europe’ Alliance
Portugal’s right-wing populist party Chega has announced its desire to join the new alliance of sovereignist forces in the European Parliament established in Vienna on Sunday.
The new political group was initiated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, and Austrian opposition leader Herbert Kickl and their respective parties.
Shortly after the signing ceremony on Sunday, European right-wing parties began to express interest in joining the group, including Chega, Orbán’s press secretary Bertalan Havasi told news agency MTI on Monday.
Chega President André Ventura announced in a press conference his intention to join the group, telling reporters that “the fight against socialism is more important today than ever.”
The joining parties will create an independent political group in the European Parliament and, according to the founders’ plans, soon become the largest right-wing parliamentary group.”
As Remix News reported earlier, at the establishment of the group, Orbán said:
“We will not stand idly by and watch the emergence of a European superstate in which the parliaments of the member states degenerate into a kind of folklore, where sovereignty and the self-determination of individual states are empty phrases.”
“We want a Europe that once again shows itself and develops with pride, values, traditions, and diversity,” said the FPÖ’s Kickl, adding that “Europe does not want to be left to Macron, Von der Leyen or some left-wing experiment.”
Former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš stressed that EU environmental policy should take more account of economic development in order not to jeopardize the competitiveness of the Community. Technically sound, economically viable, and socially just solutions must be found.

AfD Congress in Essen Faces Violent Protests as Membership Soars 60%
Coordinated efforts by the far left and municipal officials failed to disrupt the annual congress of the right-wing Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) in the German city of Essen over the weekend. The congress followed months of infighting, but also big successes for the party in last month’s European elections. The party also reported that membership had surged by 60% since January 2023.
According to protest organisers, 70,000 people took to the streets of Essen in a total of 32 demonstrations during the three-day congress. There were violent clashes between demonstrators and the police on Saturday morning, about which German media and politicians were largely silent.

In the congress hall itself, the party comfortably re-elected Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla as co-leaders, although attempts to centralise power within the party’s national committee and move towards having a general secretary were postponed.
On foreign policy, the party did not, in the end, debate motions restricting the ability of party representatives to travel abroad and speak to foreign media.
Alice Weidel received the largest applause of the weekend for declaring “Ukraine does not belong to the EU and not to Europe” as she voiced objections to fresh sanctions against Russian gas.
Weidel also defended her handling of the expulsion of the lead MEP candidate Maximilian Krah after his remarks appearing to relativise the guilt of SS soldiers and stated that her party had “grown up” and was ready to take the front stage in national and European politics.
The next task facing the party following the weekend congress is determining their alliances on the Right given the creation of a new faction for the European Parliament alongside newer nationalist parties, primarily from Eastern Europe.

Ukrainian Army Head Clashes with Zelensky After Refusing to Execute ‘Doomed’ Offensive
Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi, much like his predecessor Valery Zaluzhny, has come into open conflict with the Ukrainian president’s office.
There is even talk of Syrskyi’s dismissal for refusing to carry out Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s orders to execute a ground offensive deemed by the army chief as “futile.”
According to the news site EADaily, the commander-in-chief was ordered to launch a major offensive but refused, saying that without proper equipment and air support, such a counteroffensive would turn into a meat grinder in which many soldiers would die.
A source quotes Syrskyi as telling Zelensky that his soldiers would be killed in a futile, unprepared attack.
If reports of a disagreement are accurate, they explain the recent scandal involving Marjana Bezugla, a member of Ukraine’s parliament, who denounced the chief prosecutor for refusing to allow her to travel to the frontline, which Bezugla said was an obstacle to her exercising her constitutional rights.
It was not yet known why the MP wanted to visit the frontline fighters and see for herself the conditions there, but the feud between Zelensky and Syrskyi may be a factor.

UK: Establishment Attacks do Little to Dent Reform Support Base
Around 5,000 people paid an entry fee to attend an impressive Reform UK rally in Birmingham on Sunday despite despite increasingly intense establishment attacks on the party.
The political class first went for Reform leader Nigel Farage over his comments that the war in Ukraine was at least in part “provoked” by NATO and EU expansion. The Conservatives were particularly pleased with the opportunity to bash Reform, having spent weeks losing voters—and, more recently, donors—to the insurgent party.
But the saga hasn’t really done much to Reform’s position in the polls (believe them or not), which is still much higher than at the start of the general election campaign. One particularly amusing poll over the weekend suggested that Farage is still the favoured candidate to replace prime minister Rishi Sunak, should he resign as Tory leader after the election, well ahead of Tory bigwigs like Penny Mordaunt and Suella Braverman.
Awkward. Who voters want to replace Rishi Sunak who, presumably, could resign as early as Friday morning. pic.twitter.com/gqLW84AlM8
— Matt Goodwin (@GoodwinMJ) June 30, 2024
A more sustained attack has, however, focussed on Reform’s parliamentary candidates. The Guardian complained this morning, on July 1st, that “at least 30” individuals hoping to become Reform MPs “have cast doubt on human-induced global heating.” The party did, in fact, drop support for three of its candidates before the end of June following reports they had made offensive or racist comments.
But the party has managed to turn the criticism on its head, claiming the establishment media is attempting to carry out a hit job for purely political reasons. This is especially in relation to a Channel 4 exposé on what it described as a Reform party canvasser in Clacton, where Farage is standing to be MP. The individual, Andrew Parker, was caught on camera suggesting—in working-class tones—that illegal migrants ought to be shot, and calling Sunak a “f*****g* P**i.”

Only, Parker is a self-described “well spoken” actor whose own bio pages (now taken offline) say he specialises in both “rough speaking” and “secret filming.”

HOW HAVE CHANNEL 4 NOT TAKEN THE PIECE DOWN? https://t.co/2cRDO2AoDs pic.twitter.com/w0L4NWq5bB
Parker has insisted that his acting is separate from his volunteering for Reform. Channel 4, claiming “we did not pay the Reform UK canvasser,” said: “We strongly stand by our rigorous and duly impartial journalism which speaks for itself.”
But Reform has reported the leftist broadcaster to the elections watchdog over what it called “scandalous election interference.” The party’s lawyers also branded the affair an “absolute scandal.”
It seems that, if anything, these attacks have done more to shore up support for Reform among its sick-and-tired-of-the-establishment base, which continues to give Farage and company extraordinary levels of support (so far as British politics is concerned) wherever he goes. You just cannot imagine these levels of enthusiasm for any of the mainstream parties.
Something remarkable is happening out there #BritainNeedsReform pic.twitter.com/04CGQ9aBS1
— Dr David Bull (@drdavidbull) June 30, 2024
Nor can one imagine any of the major parties receiving £400,000 (€470,000) in just 24 hours “entirely from small donors,” as Reform says it has just done.
Really, the only thing that can now get in Reform’s way ahead of the national poll on July 4th is a fear of a Labour ‘supermajority,’ and what this might mean for the country over the next five (if not ten) years.
