Biden Defends His ‘Put Trump in Bullseye’ Remark

The US president has claimed his opponent’s rhetoric was more incendiary.

US President Joe Biden has dismissed any notion that his rhetoric might incite violence, claiming that by calling for a “bullseye” on Donald Trump he was merely trying to shift the “focus” from his poor debate performance to his Republican rival’s actions and policies.

The incumbent has repeatedly called his rival a threat to democracy and the nation and told donors earlier this month, “We’re done talking about the debate; it’s time to put Trump in a bullseye.” Following the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, multiple commentators argued that the violence was incited by exactly this kind of reckless remark.

In an interview on Monday, Biden insisted it was a “mistake” and merely a figure of speech when NBC News anchor Lester Holt asked him about using the term “bullseye.”

“I didn’t say ‘crosshairs.’ I meant ‘bullseye,’” Biden clarified. “I meant focus on him. Focus on what he’s doing, focus on his policies, focus on the number of lies he told in the debate. Focus on… I mean there is a whole range of things that… Look, I am not the guy that said I want to be a dictator on day one. I am not the guy that refused to accept the outcome of the election.”

In an exclusive interview with Lester Holt, President Biden said it was a mistake to use the word “bullseye” while discussing former President Trump, but said to “focus on what [Trump is] doing”. pic.twitter.com/TufdyiZq8v

Asked whether the shooting prompted him to do “some soul searching” and reflect on comments “that could incite people who are not balanced,” the incumbent deflected, arguing that it was Trump, not him, who has routinely used incendiary rhetoric for years.

”How do you talk about the threat to democracy, which is real, when a president says things like he says? Do you just not say something because it may incite somebody?” Biden wondered, recalling Trump’s pledge to become a “dictator” for just one day and his warning about a potential “bloodbath” if he loses. “I have not engaged in that rhetoric… My opponent has engaged in that rhetoric.”

On Saturday, a gunman later identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks fired several shots at Trump while he was giving a speech on an open-air stage in Butler, Pennsylvania. A bullet grazed the former president’s right ear, but he was otherwise unharmed. One spectator was killed, and two more were wounded before the attacker was neutralized by Secret Service agents.

Although the attack was widely condemned by both Republicans and Democrats, Trump supporters have argued that the Democrats and the media were guilty of inciting hatred against Trump.

Elon Musk Threatens to Sue Advertising Alliance, Despite Re-Joining it

Although Musk’s threat of legal action doesn’t name any names, including GARM itself, it will put X’s decision to renew the GARM partnership to the test – and perhaps explain it.

The relationship between X and the powerful advertising group known as the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) keeps getting increasingly interesting – and puzzling.

X predecessor Twitter was a member, but the social platform left GARM after Elon Musk became the new owner. However, only recently, X announced that it was “excited” to rejoin GARM.

And now Musk has declared that X “has no choice but to file suit against the perpetrators and collaborators in the advertising boycott racket.”

Elon Musk Threatens to Sue Advertising Alliance, Despite Re-Joining it

“Hopefully, some states will consider criminal prosecution,” his post reads.

But it’s not just any “boycott racket” – he was referring to a US House Judiciary Committee interim report, that goes into how GARM (set up by the World Federation of Advertisers, WFA, and associated with the World Economic Forum, WEF) colluded to leverage advertising in a bid to control speech on his platform, and conservative media outlets.

That’s despite GARM’s stated purpose of simply providing “brand safety.” But it turns out the alliance, which gathers scores of the world’s largest and richest corporations and advertiser associations with a collective share in the ad market reaching close to a trillion dollars annually – may have been doing “a little extra.”

Namely, just after Musk took over in November 2022, “brand safety” was used as a weapon to blacklist creators, content, and companies. It proceeds from the Committee’s report that this had to do with exerting influence and carrying out online censorship for what, at least in the case of the recommendation to boycott Twitter (because of the Musk takeover) appear to be political reasons.

Namely, the liberal part of US (and not only) politics and media were and continue to be strongly critical of Musk, and it has now been revealed that targeting Twitter’s already shaky revenues was one of the anti-Musk tactics and a successful one.

Despite GARM head Robert Rakowitz’s statements denying any organized boycott, an email from early February 2023 that the Committee obtained said the company rebranded as X was facing “80% below revenue forecasts.”

The Committee’s report said it came as GARM “recommended that its members ‘stop all paid advertisement’ on Twitter in response to Mr. Musk’s acquisition of the company.”

The report adds, “GARM’s internal documents show that GARM was asked by a member to ‘arrange a meeting and hear more about (GARM’s) perspectives about the Twitter situation and a possible boycott from many companies.”

Although Musk’s threat of legal action doesn’t name any names, including GARM itself, it will put X’s decision to renew the GARM partnership to the test – and perhaps explain it.

Walgreens to Close Thousands More Pharmacy Stores Due to Rampant Theft, Collapsing Economy Under Biden

Walgreens to Close Thousands More Pharmacy Stores Due to Rampant Theft, Collapsing Economy Under Biden

CVS, Rite Aid also closing stores.

Over the next couple of years, pharmacy chain Walgreens will close another 2,150 or so stores, CEO Tim Wentworth told the Wall Street Journal on June 27.

Wentworth says there are a number of reasons for the closures, not the least of which is America’s failing economy and the resultant profit losses Walgreens is seeing. There are also too many Walgreens stores located too closely together coupled with a rampant theft problem at many locations.

The next generation of Americans is also much more avert to taking pharmaceutical drugs than older generations which means declining demand for prescriptions. Many people who still do take medications are also filling their prescriptions online rather than visiting Walgreens stores in person.

“The current pharmacy model is not sustainable,” Wentworth told the Journal.

(Related: Back in 2022, U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer ruled that Walgreens “substantially contributed” to America’s opioid crisis.)

CVS, Rite Aid also closing stores

The entire pharmacy sector is struggling to survive for many of the same reasons which explains why competitor chains CVS and Rite Aid are similarly shutting down stores and tightening the financial noose.

Further, many prescription drugs are no longer covered through insurance at the same reimbursement rates they once were which means many Americans who take drugs are having to cut back or switch to something else for their health.

Another major change in the digital age is the massive rise in e-commerce which only accelerated during the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) “pandemic.” People buy candy, cards and other convenience items online now rather than at pharmacies where these items tend to be wildly overpriced.

All of this and more points to the eventual disappearance of in-store pharmacies in the coming years.

“Our customers have become increasingly selective and price sensitive in their purchases,” Wentworth told the Associated Press (AP).

Though Wentworth did not reveal the exact number of stores his company is planning to close, he did use the word “significant” to describe it while warning that there could be even more store closures than planned if the economy and consumer purchasing habits continue on their current trajectory.

About 75 percent of Walgreens stores account for 100 percent of its operating income. This means that about one in four Walgreens stores is unprofitable and dragging the company down financially.

After Walgreens shuts down 25 percent of its stores, Wentworth says the remaining locations could see profit boosts that at least somewhat make up for the loss. As for the company’s employees, his hope is that the store closures will not result in “a meaningful loss of jobs.”

“Approximately 25 percent of Walgreens stores are not contributing to our long-term strategy,” a company representative told Good Housekeeping.

“We’re finalizing an optimization program that we expect will include closing a significant portion of these locations over the next three years. We are also taking a series of actions and making investments to enhance the customer and patient experience.”

In the comments, readers pointed out that prices at Walgreens tend to be two or even three times the cost that other stores are charging.

“The few times I go in the store to pick up a prescription I’m usually the only one in place,” one added about how dead the stores usually are. “And still the pharmacy people are too rushed to help me and are super unfriendly.”

There are many excuses out there as to why Walgreens and many other businesses are failing in America, but the root cause is our nation’s corrupt financial system and the crumbling house of cards upon which it was built. Learn more at Collapse.news.
