MTG TORCHES CHEATLE: “Was There a Conspiracy to Kill President Trump?!”
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) held Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle’s feet to the fire Monday, at one point asking point-blank if there was an orchestrated plot to murder Donald Trump at his rally in Pennsylvania.
Piling in on Cheatle during House Oversight Committee questioning Monday, Greene highlighted the fact that people in the crowd at Trump’s Butler rally warned Secret Service early on about shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks, asking if there was a “stand-down” ordered for Secret Service that day.

“The people there knew that there was a danger, they knew there was a threat to President Trump, and it was allowed to happen,” Greene told Cheatle.
“Was there a stand-down order, Ms. Cheatle? Was there a conspiracy to kill President Trump?!” Rep. Greene followed up.
“No, absolutely not,” Cheatle replied.
Asked why she had not yet resigned due to the shooting being allowed to happen, Cheatle responded, “That is what we are investigating to determine.”
The Secret Service chief’s refusal to step down comes as Committee chair Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) and ranking member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) on Monday drafted a joint letter calling on Cheatle to step down following a would-be assassin managing to get a clean shot at former President Donald Trump.

GOP Rep. Comer, Dem Rep. Raskin Jointly Demand U.S. Secret Service Director Resign
House reps from both sides of the political aisle drafted a joint letter calling on Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle to resign after a failed attempt on former President Donald Trump’s life.
In a bipartisan letter on Monday following hours of testimony from Cheatle, House Judiciary Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) and ranking member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) issued a letter urging Cheatle’s resignation, stating her answers during congressional testimony undermined confidence in her ability to lead the agency.

“On July 13, 2024, the United States Secret Service under your leadership failed to protect former President Donald Trump from an assassination attempt that took the life of Corey Comperatore and seriously injured at least two other people,” the letter states.
“Today, you failed to provide answers to basic questions regarding that stunning operational failure and to reassure the American people that the Secret Service has learned its lessons and begun to correct its systemic blunders and failures.
“We call on you to resign as Director as a first step to allowing new leadership to swiftly address this crisis and rebuild the trust of a truly concerned Congress and the American people,” Comer and Raskin wrote.
The letter came as Cheatle faced intense grilling Monday as even Democrat congressmen demanded she answer for the failures that led to former President Trump being shot in the ear by a would-be assassin at his MAGA rally in Butler, Penn., last Saturday.

Burlinson pressed if she used those encrypted apps to communicate “with people from the federal government” or with “local law enforcement.”
“Whom are you communicating using encrypted apps?” he asked.
She responded, “Many times it’s with colleagues and associates.”
“So you’re communicating with colleagues on a personal device?” he asked.
Cheatle confirmed that she did, adding “Recently we’ve been able to install some of those apps on government devices.”
“I’m actually shocked that you’re using your personal device and encrypted communication tools,” a stunned Burlinson said. “I think that that might be the most shocking thing that I’ve heard today.”
“I didn’t expect for you to say that,” he added.
