West ‘Provoked’ Ukraine Conflict – Nigel Farage
Western powers essentially goaded Russia into launching a military operation against Ukraine by refusing to abandon plans for NATO and EU enlargement, Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, has said.
In an interview with the BBC on Saturday, Farage, known for his prominent role in the Brexit campaign and his anti-immigration views, recalled that he warned of a potential war in Ukraine as early as 2014, following the Western-backed coup in Kiev.
”It was obvious to me that the ever-eastward expansion of NATO and the European Union was giving this man [Russian President Vladimir Putin] a reason… to say ‘they are coming after us again’ and go to war,” he said.
While Farage claimed it was Putin’s “fault” that Russia sent troops into Ukraine, he insisted that “we’ve provoked this war.”
Farage’s comments have sparked outrage from UK officials, with Home Secretary James Cleverly claiming the Reform UK leader was “echoing Putin’s vile justification for the brutal invasion of Ukraine.”
In September 2014, while fierce battles were raging in Donbass, Farage denounced what he called the West’s “unnecessary provocation” of Moscow, arguing that it stemmed from NATO and the EU’s aspiration to absorb Ukraine. “The moral of the story is, if you poke the Russian bear with a stick, don’t be surprised when he reacts,” Farage said at the time.
On February 24, 2022 – the day Russia sent troops into Ukraine – Farage acknowledged that Putin “has gone much further than I thought he would,” emphasizing that “it made no sense to poke the Russian bear with a stick.”
Russia has for years voiced concerns about NATO expansion towards its borders, seeing it as an existential threat. Members of the US-led military bloc agreed in 2008 that Ukraine would eventually join, but gave no specific timetable. Kiev officially declared NATO membership a strategic objective in 2019. In 2022, after four of its former regions voted to join Russia, Ukraine submitted an application to join the bloc.
Moscow has repeatedly stated that Ukraine’s neutral status is one of the key goals of its military campaign. The issue loomed large at the Istanbul peace talks in the spring of 2022, which both Russian officials and David Arakhamia, the head of Ukraine’s delegation at the negotiations, have said were derailed by then-UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who allegedly advised Ukraine to keep fighting. Johnson has disputed this version of events.

Gates May Bring ‘Downfall of Western Civilization’ – Musk
Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has pushed back on Melinda French Gates’ endorsement of US President Joe Biden, suggesting it might be bad for the West.
The ex-wife of Microsoft mogul Bill Gates endorsed Biden on Thursday, presenting him as the candidate that cared about women. The incumbent Democrat is facing a rematch with his predecessor Donald Trump in November.
“I am once again asking for the scorned billionaire wife to Democrat activist pipeline to be studied,” conservative influencer Ashley St.Clair wrote on X (formerly Twitter) in response. “Melinda Gates is about to spend so much divorce money on getting Joe Biden elected.”
“Might be the downfall of western civilization,” replied Musk. He also agreed with St. Clair’s follow-up that “many villain arcs [are] being pursued under the guise of philanthropy.”
French Gates’ 2021 divorce left her with an estimated net worth of over $11 billion. She quickly pivoted from her foundation work to political activism on behalf of the Democrats.
The ruling party in Washington already has a prominent ex-wife of a tech mogul in a major supporting role, however. Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, used some of his inheritance to donate to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
The Emerson Collective, which she founded in 2004 to engage in educational philanthropy and social justice, expanded its portfolio to immigration advocacy during the Obama administration. Powell Jobs has since used it to buy The Atlantic magazine in 2017 and a stake in Axios.
Meanwhile, Musk’s politics shifted towards the Republicans after Biden came to the White House. The Tesla founder and SpaceX CEO ended up buying Twitter in 2022, after complaining about widespread censorship on the platform, and rebranding it as X.
He has stopped just short of endorsing Trump in the 2024 election, but endorsed a Republican victory as a way to preserve the US from collapsing.
“I voted 100% [Democrat] until a few years ago. Now, I think we need a red wave or America is toast,” Musk said in March.

Teens Who Use Cannabis 11 Times More Likely To Develop Psychiatric Disorder
Teenagers who use cannabis are at an elevenfold-increased risk of developing a psychotic disorder, according to a new study.
The study, published in the journal Psychological Medicine, highlights the dangers of cannabis use among adolescents, and clearly suggests the risk may be even greater than previously thought.
“My interest in this topic was initially driven by the legalization of recreational cannabis in Canada, which happened largely in the absence of solid evidence on the risks of cannabis use,” said study author André McDonald.
“One of the big questions related to cannabis is its link with psychotic disorders, particularly during youth. Most studies on this topic have used data from the 20th century when cannabis was significantly less potent than today in terms of THC, so we were also curious whether using more recent data would show a stronger link.”
The potency of cannabis, especially its tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content, has increased tremendously in recent decades. In the 1980s, the average THC content of cannabis was around 1%, but now some strains have up to 90% or more THC. Many strains have around 20% THC content.

The researchers used survey and health data, including data about hospital visits, from over 10,00 young people aged 12-24 in Ontario, Canada. They excluded respondents who had used health services for psychiatric disorders in the previous six years before their survey interviews, to ensure that they had eliminated individuals who were using cannabis to treat pre-existing psychiatric disorders.
Respondents in the surveys were asked if they had ever used cannabis and if they had done so in the last 12 months. These responses were compared to data about hospital visits and, in particular, hospital visits related to any form of psychiatric disorder.
The researchers found that teenagers who reported using cannabis within the past year were eleven times more likely to be diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder than those who hadn’t.
What was particularly notable was that this effect was not observed in subjects aged 20-24, suggesting that cannabis poses a developmental risk to teenagers in particular.
The data also revealed that the vast majority of teens diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder had a history of cannabis use. Five out of every six teens who were hospitalized for a psychotic disorder had previously reported using cannabis.

“People should be aware of the risks associated with using cannabis at an early age. This study estimates that teens using cannabis are at 11 times higher risk of developing a psychotic disorder compared to teens not using cannabis,” said McDonald.
“It’s important to acknowledge that the vast majority of people who use cannabis will not develop a psychotic disorder, but this study suggests that most teens who develop a psychotic disorder have a history of cannabis use. This is important information to convey to teens but also parents of teens, who may not be aware that cannabis products today are different and may be more harmful than the ones that were around when they were teens. ”

German School System Overwhelmed by Migrants
The German school system is on the verge of collapse because of mass migration, according to the president of the German Teachers’ Association.
Stefan Düll told the DTS news agency that the sheer number of immigrants is putting an unbearable strain on teachers and schools.
“Due to immigration in 2015, the war in Ukraine and other immigration, new people are constantly coming into the system, but the system is slow to keep up because it is moving too fast.”
One particular problem is that a significant proportion of these newcomers speak little or even no German at all.
“How are we supposed to teach them?” Düll added.
He added that the presence of more migrants was a demotivating force in classrooms: “The higher the percentage of immigrants, the more difficult it is to motivate the class.”
RMX News reported last year that a full quarter of all German 4th graders can’t even read.
A National Education Report was released on Monday. It showed that minimum educational requirements are not being met at levels never seen before.
In the capital Berlin, for example, 40% of students do not speak German as their native language, and in some cities like Hamburg, the majority of students are now migrants. Thirty-eight percent of children in German schools have migrant backgrounds.
As well as reducing literacy levels, the influx of foreigners is also making Germany’s schools far less safe. Police interventions have risen sharply. In Berlin, in 2023, police were called to schools on average five times a day.
In March, two Berlin schoolchildren aged nine and ten were stabbed by a migrant in Duisburg, and in April a student and teacher were hospitalized when the teacher intervened to stop a beating by a migrant gang.
