Bondi Knife Attacker Named, May Have Deliberately Targeted Women
Police have named 40-year-old Joel Cauchi as the man responsible for killing six people in a stabbing spree at a Sydney shopping mall yesterday. They said Cauchi moved to Sydney from Queensland a month ago and had a history of mental-health problems. He was living in a vehicle at the time of the attack.
The killer’s family have now issued a statement via the police, in which they express their shock and devastation, and offer their support for the victims and their loved ones.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims and those still undergoing treatment at this time,” they said.
“Joel’s actions were truly horrific, and we are still trying to comprehend what has happened. He has battled with mental health issues since he was a teenager.
“We are in contact with both the New South Wales Police Force and Queensland Police Service and have no issues with the Police Officer who shot our son as she was only doing her job to protect others and we hope she is coping alright.”

Although there was some initial speculation on social media that the attack might be terror-related, as we reported yesterday, police are now considering the possibility that Cauchi deliberately targeted women.
Cauchi killed five women and one man. New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb said that “at least eight” of the 12 people injured in the attack were women.
The women killed were 47-year-old Jade Young, 25-year-old Dawn Singleton, 38-year-old Ashlee Good, and two other women who have not been named. Faraz Tahir, 30, a security guard, was the lone man killed.
Webb told reporters that the gender of the majority of Cauchi’s victims would be “an obvious line of inquiry.”
“And that’s concerning, but that will form part of the investigation.
“I mean, anyone seeing that footage can see that for themselves.”
Webb’s colleague, the assistant commissioner, sounded a more cautious note about the killer’s motivations.
“We are continuing to work through the profiling of the offender but very clearly to us at this stage it will appear related to the mental health of the individual,” the NSW police assistant commissioner, Anthony Cooke, said.
“There is still to this point nothing—no information we have received, no evidence we’ve recovered, no intelligence that we have gathered—that would suggest that this was driven by any particular motivation, ideology or otherwise.”

IRAN: “The Matter Can Be Deemed Concluded”
In a public statement late on Saturday night, Iran’s Permanent Mission to the UN declared on Twitter that its massive drone and missile attack on Israel, which it conducted with proxies in Iraq and Yemen, is now over. The Iranian regime stated that the attack was in response to the April 1 Israeli strike against an Iranian target in Damascus, Syria, which killed 12 people included two senior generals in the Revolutionary Guards Quds force.
“Conducted on the strength of Article 51 of the UN Charter pertaining to legitimate defense, Iran’s military action was in response to the Zionist regime’s aggression against our diplomatic premises in Damascus. The matter can be deemed concluded,” the Tweet stated.
The statement then promised that another “response” would follow if Israel directed any further attacks against the regime, and that it would be more serious.
The Iranians also warned the US to stay out of any hostilities between Teheran and Jerusalem, using block capitals as a clear signal of its deadly intent.
“However, should the Israeli regime make another mistake, Iran’s response will be considerably more severe. It is a conflict between Iran and the rogue Israeli regime, from which the U.S. MUST STAY AWAY.”

Hundreds of missiles and drones were fired from Iran, Iraq and Yemen, but most appear to have been intercepted and destroyed. Little damage is reported, but a young girl was taken to hospital with minor shrapnel injuries from an intercepted missile.
Israel’s allies in the region, including Jordan, helped shoot down drones. The British Royal Air Force also scrambled nearby jets to intercept targets within their range.
As the attack progressed, President Biden drew an early close to a weekend visit to his Delaware beach house to reconvene at the White House with his national-security staff. He spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reassure him of American support.
On social media, President Biden said that his “commitment to Israel’s security against threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad.
An Israeli response is awaited, with the potential for significant escalation in the wider region and even beyond.
Both Russia and China have warned against escalation.
Russian Deputy Ambassador to the UN Dmitry Polyanskiy said on the Telegram that the Un Security Council had received letters from both Israel and Iran, and that the letter from Iran asserted the legitimacy of the attacks as a form of self-defence.
“The latter warns that if Israel responds, Iran will respond in a more powerful and decisive manner,” Polyanskiy added.
The Chinese foreign ministry urged “calm and restraint” on all sides. It described the Iranian attack as the “latest spillover of the Gaza conflict,” and declared that the Gaza war “must end now.”

Dem Denver Mayor: ‘We Want to Be Welcoming City’ for Illegals, ‘Requires Shared Sacrifice’
Democrat Denver Mayor Mike Johnston dismissed criticisms of his move to divert city budget resources to illegal aliens, claiming the sanctuary city aims to be “welcoming” for illegal aliens, but that “requires shared sacrifice.”
“We want to be a welcoming city” but doing that without federal help “requires shared sacrifice, it requires compromise. So, we are both making cuts to city budgets to meet this financial need, and we are making cuts to the amount of services we can provide to the migrants that arrive and to the number of folks that we can serve,” he told CNBC in an interview from February that aired on Thursday.
When asked to respond to critics who argue Denver has been too generous to illegal aliens, Johnston said his initiatives to cut city budget services for them is “a balance.”
“We think it’s a balance. We want to be a welcoming city where you don’t have a woman with a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old sleeping outside in a tent in ten-degree weather in a snowstorm,” he said. “That’s one of our values. And we also want to be able to provide high-quality public services to all the taxpayers. That’s also one of our values. And in this context, without any federal support, to do both of those things requires shared sacrifice, it requires compromise.”
“So, we are both making cuts to city budgets to meet this financial need, and we are making cuts to the amount of services we can provide to the migrants that arrive and to the number of folks that we can serve,” he added.
Johnston this week announced he’s diverting $90 million of Denver’s budget to help illegal aliens, including defunding essential services like its police and fire departments by $45 million.

Johnston said in February that the city had reached a “breaking point” with illegals as overcrowded migrant shelters began to evict them.
In response, the city last month began asking residents to take in the “newcomers.”
One Democrat city official was even caught on camera begging illegal aliens to consider leaving the jurisdiction for other sanctuary cities that have more resources.
