Poland Becomes World’s Top Gold Buyer, Boosting National Currency
The National Bank of Poland (NBP) has steadily increased the country’s gold reserves, a move that has bolstered the Polish złoty as gold prices have surged.
On Wednesday, the NBP announced that its gold reserves reached 12.593 million ounces by the end of July, up from 12.133 million ounces the previous month. The central bank also reported that total official reserve assets stood at €190.535 billion at the end of July, slightly down from €195.515 billion a month earlier.
In June, NBP President Adam Glapiński revealed that the bank purchased 5 tons of gold this year and intends to continue buying until gold comprises 20 percent of the country’s foreign reserves, up from the current 13 percent.
Last year, the NBP purchased a record 130 tons of gold, so while this year’s acquisitions are smaller, the impact remains significant. Gold prices have surged 23 percent in U.S. dollar terms since the beginning of the year, breaking the barrier of $2,500 per ounce.
Poland leads global gold purchases in 2024, surpassing India, Turkey, Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic. With nearly 392 tons of gold, Poland now ranks 15th worldwide in gold holdings.
The increased gold reserves have tangible benefits: the złoty is now at its strongest against the euro since October 2008, further supported by the high gold coverage of the currency compared to the euro.

Vatican Orders Finland’s Only Latin Mass to be Moved From Historic Cathedral to Modern Church
HELSINKI, Finland (LifeSiteNews) — The Vatican has ordered the only Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) in Finland to be moved from the main Cathedral in the capital city of Helsinki to a smaller, more modern church.
The Diocese of Helsinki announced on August 9 that the TLM will be moved from St. Henry’s Cathedral to St. Mary’s Church in September “in accordance with the Vatican’s wish.”
The diocese quotes the Dicastery for Divine Worship, which said that St. Henry’s Cathedral was a “model of the entire local church” and “a sign of unity,” and the TLM should, therefore, not be celebrated there anymore.
The diocese noted that the TLM had been celebrated in the cathedral since Pope Benedict XVI encouraged the use of the ancient Latin Rite with his 2007 motu proprio Summorum Pontificum.
St. Henry’s Cathedral was built between 1858 and 1860, mainly to serve Catholics working in the Russian Imperial Army, as the Lutheran country of Finland only had a very small population of Catholics. The church’s architecture is Gothic Revival, and the exterior shows statues of St. Henry, the patron saint of Finland, as well as Sts. Peter and Paul.
St. Mary’s Church, more than 5 kilometers (3 miles) away from the Cathedral, was built in the 1950s in a modern architectural style.
According to the Latin Mass Directory, this is the only TLM offered in a country with fewer than 20,000 Catholics.
Since the publication of Pope Francis’ motu proprio Traditionis Custodes in 2021, which restricted the use of the TLM, the Vatican has been cracking down on diocesan Latin Masses. Statistics from the Vatican’s liturgy office revealed that just 57 parishes worldwide were granted permission to offer the traditional Mass in 2022.
The Vatican’s justification for removing the TLM, namely that St. Henry’s Cathedral is a “sign of unity,” reveals the negative sentiment in Pope Francis’ Vatican against Catholics who prefer the traditional liturgy. Theology professor Andrea Grillo, reported to be the mastermind behind Pope Francis’ Latin Mass restrictions, has claimed that Catholics who attend the TLM are unfaithful to the Church and referred to participants of the traditional Chartres pilgrimage as a “sect.”
Canada’s Million Person March Against LGBTQIAAP2S+ Indoctrination Has ‘Quadrupled’ Its Support Since Last Year
OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) — Canada’s Million Person March for Children this fall is predicted to be even bigger than last year’s, which saw over one million Canadians marching for parental rights.
During an exclusive interview with LifeSiteNews, Muslim pro-family activist Kamel El-Cheikh revealed that the Hands Off Our Kids movement against LGBT indoctrination in schools has quadrupled in size in the months leading up to the second Million Person March.
“Canadians from coast to coast were coming into the movement and saying, ‘I was part of the million people march last year, I wasn’t part of working with you directly, but we tried to help and fill that void, and we did a great job. We had a massive turnout. I’d like to work with you officially,’” El-Cheikh, who organized the coast-to-coast march for parental rights last September, said.
“And these are Christian Canadians,” he added. “These are First Nations. These are Sikhs. These are Muslims.”
El-Cheikh further revealed that the movement has “quadruple the size” it had in September 2023, in terms of both supporters and personnel. The group now has managers in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Ontario, and Quebec.
“We are 75% bigger than last year in terms of personnel and in terms of people,” El-Cheikh declared.
“Now, we have First Nations representatives, chiefs that represent 100,000 people that are in our movement,” he added.
The group also works closely with other pro-family groups, including Campaign Life Coalition, the Mama Bears, Veterans for Freedom, and, just recently, Canadians for Truth.
El-Cheikh explained that pro-family Canadians are fighting to declare three things: that we are “one nation, one flag,” that “Canada’s parents will parent Canada’s kids,” and that “we won’t allow our kids to be politicized.”
Now, El-Cheikh is working with his team to organize the second Million Person March for Children scheduled for September 20th in cities across Canada. More information on the marches can be found on the Hands Off Our Kids website.
El-Cheikh requested that Canadians attending the event carry the Canadian flag and wear the country’s national colors of red and white.
“Bring lunchboxes for your kids,” he instructed. “Take them out of school.”
“And come down and come celebrate with us all day,” El-Cheikh added. “This is a march. It’s a monumental event. It’s a festival. It’s celebrating Canadians and the diversity of Canadians.”
This will be the pro-family movement’s second major protest of the year. As LifeSiteNews previously reported, in June, teachers and staff at an elementary school in Ottawa, Ontario, were baffled when 591 out of 738 students (80 percent) were missing from the school’s LGBT “pride” flag raising ceremony.
In addition to the massive success at the Ottawa school, El-Cheikh estimated a “pride” flag boycott rate of 50 percent in schools across the country during Canada’s 2nd annual National “Pride” Flag Walk-Out Day.
According to Campaign Life Coalition, this year, a total of eight provinces participated in the walkout campaign, compared with seven the year before.
The participating provinces in 2024 included: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.
The Selfie Surveillance State: How Digital ID Systems May Soon Decide if You Fly
In the US, the Remote Identity Validation Technology Demonstration (RIVTD) – a scheme to evaluate biometric digital ID systems that has been in the works since 2022, is now in the final stages of development.
The involved government agencies include the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Forensic Laboratory, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Among the things RIVTD is there to evaluate and assess is identity verification when photos are taken with phones, including the “liveliness of selfies.”
The system is being developed in three stages – called “tracks” – of which the third and final, dedicated to said “liveliness,” is now in progress. The idea here is to ensure that a true selfie is submitted, instead of an image of a digital or physical photograph.
Another thing those behind RIVTD want to avoid is people using masks instead of “taking an actual selfie in real-time,” say reports.
The first two “tracks” concerned the assessment of the validity of documents like ID cards or driver’s licenses, with the second turning the focus on how selfies match photos on ID documents.
The need for all this is explained by TSA as a way to fend off “bad actors or impersonators” in the looming world of remote self-enrollment that uses a person’s digital identity.
The DHS, on the other hand, talks about “risk-based decision-making.”
“Such decision making may involve determining whether an individual is eligible to receive specific services or benefits or ascertaining if an individual is a known or suspected threat,” the agency is quoted as stating.
RIVTD is to be used in both REAL ID and “legacy documents” – and REAL ID “compliance” will from May 2025 be necessary for documents travelers use for domestic flights in the US.
The digital version of REAL ID is coming soon, thanks to the REAL ID Modernization Act.
If you wonder what happens to the biometric data and photos that TSA collects, the agency says they are deleted once the identity verification process is complete. Except, that is – when it’s stored for up to two years.
One of the reasons is to be able to launch systems like RIVDT – i.e., data retention is justified by the need to help with “testing and development.”
