Fauci Admits Social Distancing Has No Basis; Wuhan Lab-leak Hypothesis Is Not Conspiracy Theory

Fauci claims the “six-feet-apart” social distancing recommendation promoted by federal health officials “sort of just appeared”

Former White House Chief Medical Advisor Anthony Fauci, the public face of the United States Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic response, just finished his second day of closed-door testimony before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, where he admitted that his public health mandate social distancing had no scientific basis. He also finally acknowledged that the lab leak hypothesis is not a conspiracy theory.

Committee Chair Brad Wenstrup (R-Oh) issued a statement after the interview with the ex-National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) director. “After two days of testimony and 14 hours of questioning, many things became evident. During his interview today, Dr. Fauci testified that the lab leak hypothesis – which was often suppressed – was, in fact, not a conspiracy theory,” Westrup said.

?DR. FAUCI TESTIMONY TAKEAWAYS?@COVIDSelect has completed a two-day, 14-hour transcribed interview with Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Here are the most important highlights from DAY 2 of his testimony?

— Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic (@COVIDSelect) January 10, 2024

The said admission came nearly four years after prompting the publication of the now infamous “Proximal Origin” that attempted to vilify and disprove the lab leak hypothesis. According to Westrup’s release, Fauci played semantics with the definition of a “lab leak” in an attempt to cover up the inaccurate conclusions of the said paper. (Related: Fauci conspired with virologists to TRICK world in Wuhan COVER-UP.)

Furthermore, the “six-feet-apart” social distancing recommendation promoted by federal health officials “sort of just appeared” and was likely not based on scientific data, as per the transcribed dialogue with the retired government official.

The 83-year-old Fauci also admitted that America’s vaccine mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic could increase vaccine hesitancy in the future. Previously, he advocated “that when you make it difficult for people in their lives, they lose their ideological bullshit, and they get vaccinated.” Some other highlights in the interview included Fauci denying allegations that he visited the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) during the pandemic or influenced the CIA’s investigation into the origins of COVID-19. Also, when American universities approached him, he advised them to impose vaccine mandates on their students.

“Dr. Fauci’s transcribed interview revealed systemic failures in our public health system and shed light on serious procedural concerns with our public health authority,” Westrup concluded. “It is clear that dissenting opinions were often not considered or suppressed completely. Should a future pandemic arise, America’s response must be guided by scientific facts and conclusive data.” The congressman added the committee was frustrated with Fauci’s inability to recall COVID-19 information that is important for the investigation. Nevertheless, he appreciates Fauci’s willingness to testify privately and stated that he looks forward to speaking with him further at a public hearing this year.

Fauci became a politically polarizing figure during the pandemic. He was vilified by those opposed to lockdowns, masking rules and vaccine mandates while being idolized by those who agreed with the government’s actions. Sen. Rand Paul, who has publicly lambasted the former NIAID director, said in an appearance on “The Ingraham Angle” that Fauci has always lied to the public. “The one thing that’s consistent about Anthony Fauci is that what he says in private is largely true, what he says in public is largely a lie,” he said.

Fauci gives “gain of function” a different definition

Fauci, together with former National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Francis Collins, have both denied in testimony to Congress that the agency funded a risky gain-of-function research at a lab in Wuhan, China, where the pandemic began in late 2019. But in June 2023, the Government Accountability Office issued a report revealing that NIH contributed more than $1.4 million to Chinese research institutions between 2014 and 2019 despite serious biosafety concerns, including at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. As per the report, the study “included genetic experiments to combine naturally occurring bat coronaviruses with SARS and MERS viruses, resulting in hybridized [also known as chimeric] coronavirus strains” and its funding has since been cut off.

On Monday, Wenstrup said that Fauci had given a “new definition” of “operational” gain-of-function research, a phrase that often describes experiments that make viruses more contagious and virulent. “I don’t know that every scientist that deals with this type of viral research understands his definition,” he said of Fauci. “He needs to define his definition of gain-of-function research, because, as I have, through this process in the last three years, read many, many published articles about gain-of-function research or creation of a chimera, this is a new one. And it varies from what a lot of other scientists use when they report on gain-of-function research.”

“I think it is probably pretty political that we’re here to begin with,” Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mi) told reporters outside the hearing room referring to Fauci’s previous reference to his “operational” definition in this clashes with Paul. She said, though that the closed-door format would yield “a lot of answers.” “This format is not playing the cameras, it’s helping us to get the facts and the details,” Dingell added.

It was also reported that Fauci will be questioned about having accepted royalties and failing to disclose potential conflicts of interest during his nearly four-decade tenure as a public health official. He claimed to have donated all royalties but he was at one point the highest-paid U.S. government official, with a net worth of $11.5 million when he left government service in December 2022.

Dems Hatch “Republicans For A Day” Scheme To Boost Haley Vs. Trump In Iowa Caucuses

“If that is something they are relying on to get through the night, then poor people, I feel bad for them,” says Trump senior adviser.

Iowa Democrats and independents have a plan to make a dent in former President Donald Trump’s massive lead over the rest of the GOP field – help Nikki Haley by becoming “Republicans for a day” during the Iowa caucuses.

According to Axios, “crossover” voting is a low-key tradition in the Iowa event, as the state allows day-of party registration for voters, while Democrats aren’t holding in-person presidential  caucuses this year – providing the perfect opportunity for uniparty Democrats to support yet another perpetual war candidate.

As Don McLeese of west Des Moines told Axios, the crossover voting scheme gives anti-Trumpers “a chance to diminish Trump’s inevitability,” adding “I’ll hold my nose and caucus for Haley.

Iowa Republican precinct captain for Haley, Lyle Hansen, acknowledged that “there could be a good crossover” vote for Haley, because Democrats “get to come over and pick the candidate for Biden to oppose.”

Des Moines Democrat Jonathan Neiderbach told the outlet “I believe all Americans should cast a vote against Donald Trump every chance we have.”

Reality bites…

As Axios notes, the crossover votes are “are highly unlikely to help Haley catch Trump, who’s consistently had a big lead in Iowa polls.”

  • But GOP strategist David Kochel said that if crossovers see Haley as the best Republican alternative to Trump, they could help her finish a solid second in Iowa, ahead of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
  • “If you even had 5,000 or 7,500 people across the state cross over for her, that might be the difference between her and Ron DeSantis,” Kochel said.

The intrigue: There’s some risk for Iowa’s Democratic Party if many of its members cross over to vote with Republicans.

  • People who switch parties to participate in a caucus sometimes don’t switch back, Tim Hagle, a political scientist at the University of Iowa, tells Axios.

Responding to the ‘threat,’ Trump senior adviser Chris LaCivita brushed aside any concerns.

“If that is something they are relying on to get through the night, then poor people, I feel bad for them,” he told Axios.

Two Navy Seals Missing Off Somali Coast After Nighttime Boarding Mission

Two Navy Seals Missing Off Somali Coast After Nighttime Boarding Mission

The Seal boat had reportedly been headed toward a suspicious vessel off the Somali coast when the elite operators went overboard.

There has been more bad news to come out of the already chaotic waters of the Middle East region, as over the weekend it’s been widely reported that two US Navy Seals have gone missing off the cost of Somalia in the Gulf of Aden.

The missing Seals “fell into the water during a nighttime boarding mission” on Thursday, according to US military officials, with the incident only being disclosed this weekend after the search and rescue mission has yielded no results. The fact that they went overboard in the dark would make it very hard for rescuers to immediately locate them.

The search and rescue mission is said to be ongoing, but given the vastness of these waters, each day that passes makes it less likely that they survived.

According to military statements printed in The Associated Press

A U.S. official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss details that have not yet been made public, told the Associated Press the missing SEALs were on a mission not related to Operation Prosperity Guardian, the U.S. and international mission to provide protection to vessels in the Red Sea.

The SEALs were on an interdiction mission, the official said, when one of them fell off a ship after high waves hit the vessel, prompting another SEAL to go after him to attempt a rescue.

The Seal boat had reportedly been headed toward a suspicious vessel off the Somali coast when the elite operators went overboard.

The Gulf of Aden has become dangerous for commercial vessels and tankers due to Somali piracy, which in the last couple decades has remained a significant problem and danger.

The New York Times issued further details as follows:

Navy ships and aircraft were immediately dispatched to the scene, where search and recovery efforts have been underway, the officials said. The military’s Central Command noted the rescue operations in a statement on Friday, but made no mention of the sailors being members of a SEAL team or any details of the incident.

Military officials have started the process of notifying the families of the commandos involved in the episode, a former official said.

Somali militants have long threatened these waters, but given that the bulk of diverted Red Sea traffic must now travel via the Cape of Good Hope around Africa due to ongoing Houthi attacks, this could result in an increase of maritime traffic nearer the Somali coast, leading to more ‘opportunity’ and ample potential targets for piracy.

Houthis Fire Cruise Missile at US Navy Destroyer in Red Sea

In December, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced the establishment of a multinational operation to secure the Red Sea, saying that the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, the Seychelles, and Spain would take part in the mission.

The US Navy destroyer Laboon was attacked by a cruise missile fired from a Houthi militant area of Yemen, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said.

“On January 14 at approximately 4:45 p.m. (Sanaa time), an anti-ship cruise missile was fired from Iranian-backed Houthi militant areas of Yemen toward USS Laboon (DDG 58), which was operating in the Southern Red Sea. The missile was shot down in vicinity of the coast of Hudaydah by US fighter aircraft. There were no injuries or damage reported”, CENTCOM said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).

In the early hours of Friday, the US and UK military carried out 23 airstrikes on targets in four provinces in different parts of Yemen, including the capital of Sanaa and the cities of Al Hudaydah, Taizz and Sadah, local government sources told Sputnik. Later in the day, the US Air Forces Central said that US strikes against the Houthis in Yemen had hit more than 60 targets in 16 different locations.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saria later said that the US and the UK had carried out 73 strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, killing five fighters and injuring six others. A member of Houthis’ high political council, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, described the Western attacks as “barbaric terrorism” and “deliberate and unjustified aggression.

“In December, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced the creation of a multinational operation to secure the Red Sea, saying the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, the Seychelles, and Spain would participate in the mission. The Houthis vowed to attack any ships joining the US-led naval coalition.

In November, the Houthis announced their intention to attack any ships affiliated with Israel and called on other countries to recall their crews from the vessels. The Houthis vowed to continue their attacks until Israel ended its military campaign in Gaza it had launched in retalitaion to Hamas’ attacks on its territory back in October, 2023.

Bill Gates Hopes AI Can Reduce “Polarization,” Save “Democracy,” Ignores Censorship Implications

Bill Gates and OpenAI’s Sam Altman lament the lack of government action on social media “polarization.”

The notion that whoever controls and shapes AI could potentially wield significant influence over large swathes of society could be one of the most alarming and prominent over the next few years.

In a recent episode of “Unconfuse Me with Bill Gates,” Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, and tech billionaire Bill Gates controversially delved into the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool for maintaining democracy and promoting world peace.

The discussion was aired on January 11, 2024.

Read the transcript for the episode here.

The conversation explored the idea of using artificial intelligence as an instrument to foster unity in society, enhance global amity, and help overcome geopolitical polarization.

Microsoft, founded by Gates, and OpenAI, whose CEO Altman is currently working closely with Microsoft, are promoters of using AI to solve global issues.

Gates spoke excitedly on the topic: “I do think AI, in the best case, can help us with some hard problems…Including ‘polarization’ because potentially that breaks democracy and that would be a super bad thing.”

In addition to resolving polarization, the two heavyweights also discussed the notion of AI potentially acting as a peacemaking tool.

Gates said, “Whether AI can help us go to war less, be less polarized; you’d think as you drive intelligence…I’d love to have people working on the hardest human problems, like whether we get along with each other. I think that would be extremely positive if we thought the AI could contribute to humans getting along with each other.”

Sam Altman responded positively to Gates’s vision, stating: “We’ve got to find out and see, but I’m very optimistic. I agree with you, what a contribution that would be.”

“If the key is to stop the entire world from doing something dangerous, you’d almost want global government, which today for many issues, like climate, terrorism, we see that it’s hard for us to cooperate,” Gates said, when the topic came to global issues like nuclear.

On the topic of polarization, Altman and Gates lamented that the government, they allege, didn’t act on social media “polarization,” but hoped that there would be potential with AI.

“I don’t understand why the government was not able to be more effective around social media, but it seems worth trying to understand as a case study for what they’re going to go through now with AI,” Altman added.

The discussion notably omits a critical aspect: the influence of the programmers’ own beliefs and principles on the AI’s functioning. The designers and developers of AI systems inherently embed their own ideas about democracy, free speech, and governance into the AI’s algorithms. This raises significant concerns about the impact of these personal biases on the AI’s neutrality and its ability to make fair, unbiased decisions.

The prospect of AI systems being programmed with particular ideologies could have profound implications for free speech. If an AI is designed to favor certain political or social viewpoints, (excluding those it decides are “polarizing”) it could potentially suppress opposing perspectives, leading to a form of digital censorship.

This becomes especially concerning in the context of AI platforms that manage large-scale public discourse, such as social media algorithms or news aggregation tools. The power to subtly shape public opinion and control the narrative on critical issues could be an unintended consequence of AI programmed with specific democratic ideals. Or perhaps that’s the intention all along.
