CBS Claims Mexico’s Border Policies Shape America’s Future – It Shouldn’t Be This Way

At the end of the day, what really counts is not what AMLO does but what the U.S. government does on the border.

On Sunday, March 24, the CBS flagship production 60 Minutes presented Sharyn Alfonsi’s interview of Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, often referred to by his initials AMLO.

AMLO is nearing the end of his presidential term and Mexico is currently engaged in its 2024 presidential campaign season to choose his successor.

Currently leading in the polls is Claudia Sheinbaum of AMLO’s own MORENA party.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad 60 Minutes segment. Alfonsi didn’t just toss the Mexican president softballs.

You can watch the interview here (begins at about 15:30 mark) and the transcript is here.

AMLO claimed he has nearly eliminated corruption and that his anti-crime policies are working. Alfonsi questioned these assertions and provided contrary evidence in her segment.

Here’s a real gem from the interview:

  • Alfonsi: “Your critics say that you’re popular because you give people money. What do you say?”
  • AMLO: “I would say they are partly right…”

AMLO had a lot to say about immigration and the U.S.-Mexico border. It’s quite likely that the next president of Mexico, regardless of party, will have the same ideas about the border as AMLO.

At the beginning of the interview, AMLO said the border wall “doesn’t work.”

Really?

When I was deployed to Iraq with the Texas Army National Guard I spent some time on a fence construction project.

The military engineer who trained us pointed out that the barrier itself is not the entire defense – you need to have guard towers and to monitor the fence.

Likewise, on the U.S. border, a wall is necessary but not sufficient on its own.

If our government would fill in the holes and enforce the law, then a wall would work.

In discussing the recent drop in border crossings, AMLO confirmed what we thought – that he struck a deal with the Biden administration to reduce the crossings.

Alfonsi pointed this out: “By February, the number of migrants crossing into the U.S. began to rise again and the Border Patrol expects a sharp increase in that number this spring.”

AMLO got into “root causes” – including the belief that the U.S. can fix Third World countries so their people won’t have to invade ours.

AMLO claims four things would fix the alleged root causes: “With the ear of the White House – President López Obrador proposed his fix – that the United States commit $20 billion a year to poor countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, lift sanctions on Venezuela, end the Cuban embargo, and legalize millions of law-abiding Mexicans [sic] living in the U.S.

According to AMLO, if these things aren’t done, the migrant flow will continue, though he says he will continue to cooperate with the U.S. even if we don’t do the four things he proposed.

CBS published an additional segment online called 60 Minutes Overtime in which AMLO discussed four American politicians.

— 60 Minutes (@60Minutes) March 25, 2024

AMLO commended Trump and Biden for respecting Mexico but criticized Texas Governor Greg Abbott for what he’s doing on the border.

The Mexican president knocked Speaker of the House Mike Johnson for saying that the U.S. could compel Mexico to allow asylum seekers to remain in Mexico.

No, said AMLO, that violates Mexican sovereignty.

The funny thing is, AMLO went along with that exact policy when Trump was president!

I’ve been following AMLO’s career for years. I even heard him speak live once when I resided in Mexico.

The guy is a brilliant politician and has a real gift of gab.

At the end of the 60 Minutes segment, Sharyn Alfonsi said “[W]hat [AMLO] does next at the border – or doesn’t do – could shape the next chapter of the United States.”

With all due respect, I don’t agree.

At the end of the day, what really counts is not what AMLO does but what the U.S. government does on the border.

If we had a government with the will to protect our sovereignty we could secure the border.

It wouldn’t matter a hill of beans what the president of Mexico said or did.

10 suspects apprehended after incursion near San Diego

A group of illegal aliens swarmed a beach in Southern California after their vessel made landfall this week, according to reports.

The incident unfolded just before 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning at Solana Beach in San Diego County.

A panga boat reached shore and illegal aliens began running up the sand toward nearby bluffs and a staircase leading to the community above.

Local reporter Jaime Chambers shared footage shot by a friend on social media.

Just a little context, I’ve been a lifeguard in Del Mar for 25 years and these pangas have been landing on our beaches my entire tenure working in the towers. This is not new. It’s not good, but not new.

— Jaime Chambers (@jaimechambers) March 28, 2024

“The vessel was first detected by U.S. Customs Border and Protection’s [CBP] San Diego Air and Marine Branch traveling northbound toward Solana Beach early in the morning,” CBP spokesman Michael J. Scappechio explained to Fox 5 San Diego.

At least 10 suspects were arrested but authorities were searching for more, according to the latest available updates.

The vessel and a vehicle believed to be involved in the incursion were both seized by CBP.

“Just a little context, I’ve been a lifeguard in Del Mar for 25 years and these pangas have been landing on our beaches my entire tenure working in the towers. This is not new. It’s not good, but not new,” Chambers asserted in a follow-up post.

‘The View’ Hosts CANNOT HANDLE Intelligent Black Man Pushing Back On Woke Ideology

Fiery interview going viral online.

African American author and podcast host Coleman Hughes joined “The View” this week only to be called a “charlatan” being “used as a pawn by the right” during his appearance.

Hughes, who is clearly more intelligent than the gossiping witches on the program by leaps and bounds, began by detailing his views on race and socioecinomics.

Joining the show to talk about his book, “The End of Race Politics: Arguments for a Colorblind America,” Hughes explained public policies should not include race-based factors and lawmaker should instead should focus on class.

@coldxman‘s appearance on The View

“There’s no evidence that I’ve been co-opted by anyone. I have an independent podcast, I work for CNN as an analyst, I write for The Free Press, I’m independent in all of these endeavors and no one is paying me to say what I’m saying” pic.twitter.com/sFFWv42MHU

— Jules Terpak (@julesterpak) March 27, 2024

“My overall argument is that class, socioeconomics, is a better proxy for disadvantaged,” Hughes said. “We all want to help the disadvantaged and the question is how do we identify them? The default right now in a lot of areas of policy is to use black and Hispanic identity as a proxy for disadvantage. My argument is that you get a better picture of who needs help by looking at socioeconomics and income. That picks out people in a more accurate way.”

Later, “The View” host Sunny Hostin told Hughes, “Your argument for colorblindness, I think it’s something that the right has co-opted, and so many in the Black community, if I’m being honest with you, because I want to be, believed that you are being used as a pawn by the right and that you are charlatan of sorts.”

“I don’t think I’ve been co-opted by anyone. I’ve only voted twice — both for Democrats. I’m an independent,” the author responded. “I would vote for a Republican — probably a non-Trump Republican if they were compelling. I don’t think there’s any evidence I’ve been co-opted by anyone and I think that’s an ad-hominem tactic people use to not address, really, the important conversations we’re having here.”

Radio host and political advisor Melik Abdul posted on social media to say the interview highlighted why he left the Democrat Party.

“This is the Left. This is how they feel about Black men who don’t walk in lockstep w/their radical agendas. This is one of the reasons I left the Democratic Party. This. This right here,” Abdul wrote.

Democrat politician triggered by Americans waking up to racist DEI policies

Baltimore, Maryland, Democrat Mayor Brandon Scott joined MSNBC‘s Joy Reid this week to discuss this week’s tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, which was struck by a ship.

While joining the outlet to discuss the deadly incident, Reid and Scott touched on a recent controversial social media post by a random anonymous X user who called Scott “Baltimore’s DEI mayor.”

X Community Notes added details to the likely sarcastic post, explaining, “Brandon Scott was elected as Mayor of Baltimore in 2020 with > 70% of the vote. He did not come in to office through any DEI practices, appointments, etc.”

Asked about the label, Scott told Reid, “I know and you know very well that young black men have been the boogeyman of those who are racist and believe that only straight wealthy white men should have a say in anything. We’ve been the boogeyman since they first brought us to this country.”

“What they mean by DEI in my opinion is duly elected incumbent. We know what they want to say but they don’t have the courage to say the ‘N’ word. And the fact that I don’t believe in their untruthful and wrong ideology and I’m very proud of my heritage and who I am and where I come from scares them because me being in my position means their way thinking, their way of life of being comfortable while everyone else suffers is going to be at risk and they should be afraid because that’s my purpose in life.”

After the blatantly racist remarks by the mayor, Reid accused Fox News host Maria Bartiromo of spewing “coded racism” by questioning the qualifications of the foreigners who were driving the ship that wrecked into the bridge.

The segment was harshly criticized online, with people like Human Events Senior Editor Jack Posobiec noting, “The mayor of Baltimore suffered a catastrophic bridge collapse, a mass casualty event, and his first response was to go on MSNBC and complain about white people.”

Baltimore is a failed city by every metric available and they still find a way to blame white people https://t.co/csjORlOLAO

— Jack Poso ?? (@JackPosobiec) March 28, 2024

Posobiec also accurately pointed out the backlash against DEI policies is absolutely real and the Democrat Party is terrified.

“The reason the Left has spent a good portion of this week labeling DEI a racist term is an indicator of how much they fear the label,” he wrote.

Obviously Mayor Scott was not a “DEI” hire as he was elected, but he does promote the racist practice.

The left-wing establishment is now trying to co-opt the term by claiming it’s a substitute for the “N” word when DEI actually deals with gender, sexuality and all races.

Meanwhile, in South Carolina, the state House just passed a bill banning DEI at state colleges and universities.

Ukraine’s Army in ‘Stagnation’ – Zelensky’s Top Adviser

Mikhail Podoliak has blamed weapons and ammo shortages for Kiev’s inability to mount major operations against Russia.

Ukrainian forces have reached a state of “stagnation” on the battlefield because the West is failing to provide Kiev with enough military equipment to make any substantial progress, President Vladimir Zelensky’s top adviser has said.

Speaking to NV Radio on Wednesday, Mikhail Podoliak complained that Kiev does not have enough resources to mount effective offensive actions that would undermine Russia.

“In general, [there is] a slow supply of resources to Ukraine, slow decision-making on appropriate tools, a certain stagnation along the front line,” he said, admitting that Kiev’s forces are completely on the defensive in Russia’s Donetsk, Lugansk and Zaporozhye regions.

This stagnation, Podoliak argued, is due to inadequate Western sanctions, which he said are not strong enough to suffocate Russia’s military industry. The other factor, he added, is insufficient arms supplies from the West. “[We are talking about] drones, munitions… and considerably ramping up investment in ammo production. We see that all this is moving slowly.”

However, he said “stagnation” does not mean “stalemate,” because that would imply that “Ukraine does not know what to do in this war,” which he said is not the case. Ukraine’s former top general Valery Zaluzhny described the situation as a stalemate in November after Kiev’s much-hyped summer counteroffensive failed to break through Russian lines, despite being reinforced by large quantities of Western equipment.

His “stalemate” remarks reinvigorated debate about whether Ukraine could ever hope to win the conflict, and were widely seen as a sign of a growing rift between Zaluzhny and Zelensky. The Ukrainian president fired the general last month, with his replacement, Aleksandr Syrsky, saying that the frontline situation was “extremely difficult.”

Ukrainian troops have been on the back foot in recent weeks after Russian forces liberated the strategic Donbass city of Avdeevka, and later pushed Kiev out of several nearby settlements.

Officials in Kiev have repeatedly linked the lack of battlefield success to a deficit of Western-supplied munitions. This comes as the US has struggled for months to approve President Joe Biden’s proposed $60 billion supplemental aid package for Ukraine due to Republican opposition in Congress, with GOP representatives demanding more efforts to increase security on the Mexican border.

53% of Millennial And Gen Z Consumers Are Resorting to ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ Services And Racking up Enormous Debt

Fear of credit card debt and its high interest rate fuels BNPL surge.

Recent data from analytics company LexisNexis Risk Solutions found that 53 percent of millennials (ages 30 to 44) and Gen Z (ages 18 to 29) consumers are now using “buy now, pay later” (BNPL) services as a financial lifeline for their daily essentials to adapt to inflation.

BNPL providers like Afterpay Limited and Klarna Bank AB have witnessed a sudden shift in BNPL trends among their younger users over the past few years.

In 2021 and 2022, millennial and Gen Z consumers often used Afterpay to purchase “apparel and accessories.” However, in 2023, “apparel and accessories” fell behind the categories of “arts, travel and entertainment,” “home and garden” and “hardware.” Afterpay has also seen double- and triple-digit surges among the youngest users in spending from 2022 to 2023, including for contact lenses (465 percent), garbage bags (182 percent) and first-aid antiseptics (98 percent).

(Related: Gen Y and Z Brits resorting to “buy now, pay later” schemes to manage finances.)

Meanwhile, young Klarna users began using its BNPL services for groceries while waiting for a paycheck to buy all essentials without sacrificing anything.

Benjamin Espinoza, a 27-year-old video editor from San Antonio, Texas, represents a growing demographic of Gen Z relying on BNPL services for their essential needs. Espinoza, who made less than $7,000 last year, recently used Klarna to spread out his $40 grocery bill.

BNPL spending, which initially started as a tool for one-time purchases, continues to fuel its popularity among consumers facing economic uncertainties. This significant increase lies beyond the convenience of splitting transactions into manageable payments. Instead, it lies in their accessibility and ease of integration into different shopping platforms.

Fear of credit card debt and its high interest rate fuels BNPL surge

Nela Richardson, the chief economist of the ADP Research Institute, cites three main reasons for the popularity of BNPL services. Firstly, the high demand due to the late stages of the pandemic. Secondly, the government relief that supported it is almost over. Lastly, credit card interest rates have gone over 20 percent with the Federal Reserve increasing rates.

In other words, the fear of spiraling deeper into credit card debt, often exacerbated by exorbitant interest rates exceeding 20 percent, has fueled a notable surge in the adoption of BNPL services among consumers.

For instance, for 27-year-old Texas mom Savannah Thrower and others like her, BNPL services present a viable alternative to traditional credit cards.  Thrower said BNPL services offer a way to manage expenses without the looming threat of hefty interest charges. She acknowledged the allure of credit cards but recognized their potential for overspending. So, she opts for BNPL services like Afterpay and PayPal to break down her purchases into manageable, interest-free installments.

The fear of falling into the same financial pitfalls witnessed during the aftermath of the 2010 financial crisis resonates strongly with the millennial generation. This  explains why there are only 35 percent of traditional credit card holders among millennial and Gen Z consumers.

Matt Gross, senior director of communications at Affirm, noted that many millennials are turning to BNPL to avoid the burden of credit card debt, given their memories of the recession’s impact on consumer bankruptcies, which peaked at 1.5 million in 2010.

“There is a whole generation of millennials like me who saw what happened in the wake of the financial crisis, and they don’t want to fall into that trap again,” he said.

Watch this video discussing the increasing popularity of BNPL loans.
