Croatia Announces Return of Military Conscription
Croatia will bring back military conscription, the country’s defense minister has announced. The move comes amid growing tension in Europe as the war in Ukraine drags on and other European countries, most notably Germany, debate reintroducing conscription to address manpower shortages.
Croatian Defense Minister Ivan Anušić made the announcement after a meeting of the country’s National Assembly on Tuesday. The conscription period is planned to last two to three months, but no further details of the scheme were given.
Anušić said that the aim is to keep as many young people in the military as possible, with up to 15,000 taking part in training each year.
Conscription was abolished in Croatia in 2008, because it was unpopular and surveys showed that nine out of ten young people objected to the use of military force.
The new scheme will include roles for objectors that won’t require participation in combat training.
“Those who refuse to take up arms will take rakes and hoes in their hands or carry sacks on the dikes for flood protection,” Anušić said.
Although objectors “do not have to carry weapons,” he added, “they must fulfill their duties and obligations to the state.” Their terms of service will also be longer, and they will be paid less.
Veterans Affairs Minister Tomo Medved stressed that Croatia is not alone in considering the reintroduction of conscription. Flagging manpower and the war in Ukraine are driving European states to rearm.
There are already nine European states with mandatory conscription: Cyprus, Greece, Austria, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Sweden and Denmark. Latvia, which shares 217 miles of border with Russia, was the last country to reintroduce conscription, in 2023.
Germany and Italy are both considering reintroducing conscription. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has made “national service” for young people a central pledge of his party’s manifesto as he heads into a general election this week.

Philadelphia Inquirer Editorial Says Trump, Not Biden, Should Withdraw
Donald Trump, not Joe Biden, should withdraw from the presidential race, according to the editorial board of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
In an editorial published on Saturday, the Inquirer’s editorial board fully admitted that Biden’s performance in the debate “was a disaster,” but went on to say that “the debate about the debate is misleading,” because it shifts the focus from Donald Trump’s character and track record.
“President Joe Biden’s debate performance was a disaster. His disjointed responses and dazed look sparked calls for him to drop out of the presidential race.
“But lost in the hand wringing was Donald Trump’s usual bombastic litany of lies, hyperbole, bigotry, ignorance, and fear mongering. His performance demonstrated once again that he is a danger to democracy and unfit for office.”
The editorial board note that Trump “told more than 30 lies during the debate to go with the more than 30,000 mistruths told during his four years as president.”
“He dodged the CNN moderators’ questions, took no responsibility for his actions, and blamed others, mainly Biden, for everything that is wrong in the world.”
After providing a litany of reasons why Trump is unfit for office—including 6 January, his tweeting and even the number of rounds of golf he played during his presidency—the editorial board do their best to prop up Joe Biden, claiming that even “on his worst day [Biden] remains lightyears better than Trump on his best.”
The Inquirer’s editorial comes at a time of panic for the Democrats and left-liberal establishment, as they struggle to make sense of Biden’s dismal performance at the first presidential debate last Thursday.

A snap poll conducted directly after the debate by CNN showed that 67% of viewers believed Trump won the debate. A YouGov poll the next day showed that half of all Americans believe Biden should withdraw from the race if the Democrats want to have their best chance of winning.
Various organs of the mainstream media are deserting Biden and openly urging him to go, for the good of the party and the nation.
On Friday, The New York Times already issued an official declaration that Biden should withdraw, and this was followed by an editorial in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that all-but begged Biden to retire.
“President Biden’s ability to withstand the mental and physical rigors of another four-year term would be of concern regardless of his opponent,” editors of Journal-Constitution wrote.
“The fact that he is all that stands in the way of Trump returning to the Oval Office significantly raises the stakes.”
The only hope of defeating Trump is to “pass the torch to the next generation of Democratic leaders and urge the party to nominate another candidate at its convention in Chicago in August.”
“Doing this will require a massive and unprecedented string of legal and regulatory actions to get a Biden successor named and placed on each state’s ballot. This is difficult and necessary work that must start immediately.”
CDC Recommends Babies Aged 6+ Months Receive COVID Vaxx This Fall
Everyone aged six months and older should receive an “updated” COVID-19 vaccine this fall, according to new recommendations issued by the CDC.
The CDC also recommended that everyone aged six months and older receive an “updated” flu vaccine as well.
The recommendations were issued in a media release on Monday.
“CDC recommends everyone ages 6 months and older receive an updated 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of COVID-19 this fall and winter whether or not they have ever previously been vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine,” the recommendation states.
“Updated COVID-19 vaccines will be available from Moderna, Novavax, and Pfizer later this year. This recommendation will take effect as soon as the new vaccines are available.
“The virus that causes COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, is always changing and protection from COVID-19 vaccines declines over time. Receiving an updated 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine can restore and enhance protection against the virus variants currently responsible for most infections and hospitalizations in the United States. COVID-19 vaccination also reduces the chance of suffering the effects of Long COVID, which can develop during or following acute infection and last for an extended duration.”
The recommendation claims that “people who received a 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine saw greater protection against illness and hospitalization than those who did not receive a 2023-2024 vaccine,” and adds that “hundreds of millions of people have safely received a COVID-19 vaccine under the most intense vaccine safety monitoring in United States history.”
The new recommendation was greeted with anger and ridicule on social media.
Biologist Bret Weinstein gave a blistering response on Twitter.
“In Fahrenheit 451, “firemen” are transformed from emergency workers into book-burning agents of censorship. Something similar is happening to the CDC, where an agency created to control the spread of disease is now spreading medical lies and peddling iatrogenic poison.”
Dr Peter McCullough’s McCullough Foundation cited a study that shows vaccination against COVID-19 is “useless and harmful in children and adolescents.”
“The OpenSAFELY study included more than 1 million adolescents and children,” the Foundation’s account Tweeted.

“Myocarditis and pericarditis were documented only in COVID-19 vaccinated groups and not after COVID-19 infection. There were no COVID-19-related deaths in any group. A&E attendance and unplanned hospitalization were higher after first vaccination compared to unvaccinated groups.”
Others were more blunt in their response.
“I recommend the CDC go f**k themselves,” commented one Twitter user.
